So, people be complaining lately about killzones and stuff. All about how like.....vampires have 'em and lycans don't and stuff except maybe Fenrir or stuff and blah blah blah no one cares.
So, here's the deal- killzones: good, bad, stupid, sexy?
So, current points:
For killzones -Sometimes we want to be stupid -Sometimes we want to god-mod -We like making RPing shitty -Driving away members can be fun -They make it so we can have an elitist class, YAY!
Against killzones: -They are stupid. -They are god-modding. -Without them, RPing is better -We don't like driving away members -They make it so we can have an elitist class, BOO!
I'm for it, but only on certain terms. Otherwise I'm technically against it.
For-It Terms, I guess you could call it this. I find it silly that ALL of the vampires can just kill. I understand not many of them post anyway, but how should it be fair that a vampire who is never around can just randomly show up and kill? Romulus having it would make sense, because he's boss of the vampires. If another vampire or being were to take over the Castille, then Killzone rights could pass over to them. Lycans, I don't necessarily want all of them to have it, simply because we have a few they either never post or I just don't find adequate for that right. Fenrir I guess still has it, because it is his wood, but he's never around .... So if anyone has it it should be Orca, since Orca is boss wolf and shit. =/
Against It - Although I can see how it is useful in some cases, it mostly seems like a cop-out where instead of having to roleplay how to get rid of someone, or a fight, it's just an autodeath. I don't see how it is fair that all the vampires can kill, (because they own the Castille) but the Nephilim that lived there couldn't really, could they? I might be misinformed there. If the vampires can, why can't the lycans? It'd be better to just get rid of it all together instead of having the unbalanced crap. =/
And to go ahead and get out the way what Tim tried to argue - why don't the students have kill power? Forsaken Creatures only, bro. Wizards and stuff have magic, right? The Killing Curse is their version of it, it just isn't an autohit. :C

If no one can auto kill in certain places than students would show up at the Castille and the Wood all the bloody time!
Still, I can see Willow's point. I think it maybe should be a earned right within a zone, but not every single member of a species should have it maybe just the boss of that zone.
If you did away with it I'd say give the boss of each zone power to instead ignore or lock the reeeeeeally stupid threads, and have criteria for what would qualify as stupid threads, maybe.
Willow: 1) Wizards can kill, so they shouldn't have a killzone? Dumbface, anyone can kill with a spork in the eye. Problem isn't whether people have the capacity to kill, but the permission to god-RP killin (everyone has the capacity to attempt murder, bro). <3
2) Forsaken creatures should all have killzone powers? So like, Malarky's dragon should have gotten a killzone? Or would you rather ration it to certain critters (like we have now)?
Ashelle: 1) You fail at sociology 101. Lycans don't have killzone rights and students don't go posting there all the time. Prolly the same reason the vampires and lycans don't casually throw parties in the school despite the lack of any student or staff having killzones.
Point Two: No, I'm saying if you've earned the right to be boss in a certain area, as a Forsaken creature you get kill rights. A lycan pretty much owns the wood right now, so. Nephilim, if they had kept the Castille, sure, but now Romulus has it, so. If Malarky's dragon had taken over in a fair fight, I guess so. -shrug- In official fights the Auto-kill feature would cancel out, but if people are just going to bullshit around in places it gets annoying. =/
On Ashelle's note - I think the reason most people stay out of the woods and castle are because of the killzone rights. =/
On Ashelle's note: Except, the forest doesn't have killzone rights (except for Fenrir, who is inactive), and I've heard critters sayin' they won't go in the forest cuz Talon is all bitchy at them.
On point 2:
why don't the students have kill power? Forsaken Creatures only, bro.
Mainly referrin' to that. XD
Psh, "official fights". so now all you have to do to bullshit around is claim you're lookin for an "official fight" to take away the big bad god-RPing power.

In response to Ashelle, I don't think the really stupid threads should be ignored or locked without a reason. It just seems trivial. People can choose to ignore those threads on their own or reply to them for kicks.

This whole thing is just being greatly overcomplicated.
A board that is an auto kill = Stupid as fuck.
Instead it should be clearly stated in the rules that there are lycans/vampires/nephilim/nymphos/dragons/and all that other shit on this board. And they have the capacity to kill/maim/change your character during a thread.
Then, folks can go, 'hey, I don't wanna be some furfag's chew toy. Maybe I won't post in the GODDAMN WOODS where they LIVE.'
And there is no killzone, which, if you'll remember, is fucking retarded anyway.
I mean, if people want to be retarded and whine about shit, we do have a dice feature, right? even if I hate to leave shit like that to chance. So, maybe the monsters get modifiers. like +10 or something, to make it more realistic.

The days where 'killzones' were a good idea have really come and gone, I feel. For one, IC, the Lycans can't exactly kill students anymore without incurring the wrath of Talon and the wizards. I think the increased sense of realism on the site has overwhelmed what was once a time honored sacrificial tradition which fueled the power of the ruling class.
Not, of course, that I don't enjoy watching a good time honored sacrifice or anything,
Still, the reason why killzones were invented in the first place was to stop people from just posting in the Vampire Lair (note not the Forest, on MH we fought long and hard for years to get that place turned into a killzone and they never listened to us) and going 'SWEET MAN VAMPIRES ARE SO COOL CAN I BE A VAMPIRE' or 'OH MAN I AM SO AWESOME YOU VAMPIRES ARE NOTHING COMPARED TO ME.'
You did that, you generally got killed. And, I think, for the sake of keeping with the severity of certain characters, it might be best if it remained so. It's just that I think it should remain on a case to case basis. As long as you're not going straight for a 'WHAT IS THE RULE ON THAT???' thing and trying to exploit the rules to whatever extent you can, I think everybody on the site can understand on what 'case' an auto-kill should be allowed and what 'case' an auto-kill shouldn't be.
I like to think most of the lycans and vampires are smart enough to figure it out on their own. The only reason why 'only Fenrir' is allowed the kill zone in the Forest was to prevent Roan from just killing everyone in one of her fits. Because I want to make sure that when somebody kills someone in the killzone, they're doing it for a reason. As long as it remains in character and makes sense, it's not lame to me. Of course the vampires would kill anyone who steps into their domain - they're hungry. You're a blood bag. They'll eat you.
Point stands, Ashelle is right. The reason why students don't show up in the Castille and the Forest all the time is because we have the kill zone laws in effect. You'd think people would be smart enough not to go there because it's just not where students go...no, it's because they're afraid they're going to die. As you can see from Dylan, who had no idea about the rules despite them being listed on the board page, people would love to just run through Fenrir's Wood on a nature walk if there weren't rules saying otherwise.
Perhaps if we have any new members (god willing) coming in when they ask for me to change their status I ought to FORCEFULLY DRIVE IT THROUGH THEIR SKULL that you don't go into certain places.
In summary - keep the killzones, make it a case to case basis decided by the intelligent, mature roleplayers who roleplay the Lycans and Vampires. As long as you're serious and not just purposely trying to defy my argument, you can see how that would be the best decision.
Also - the idea of making FFU in any way like a tabletop RPG apart from Quidditch or mini-games unrelated to the story makes me hiss.

Dude, I was raised on tabletop RP. I don't see what the big deal is. I'm not suggesting we relegate every action to the dice, because that shit gets complicated. It's just that it pisses me off when assholes go 'I don't care if your some unholy eldritch abomination with unfathomable power, and I'm a fucking first year muggle-born who can't even get through classes without blowing shit the fuck up. I beat you.'
and when you try to reason with them, they have a hissy fit.
because I am fucking done with OOC drama. IC drama is perfectly fine (wanted, even), but you know that some asshat is going to try to go all rambo vamp-hunter and shit.
But, on the other hand, autokills are fucked up too, because there are grown-ass witches and wizards who would totally kick ass against vamps and lycans and shit. And it's wrong for them to fight and then 'well, you're in my killzone, so you die. end of story'
But yeah, maybe dice isn't like the best option either. this is why i usually avoid outright fighting altogether in these things, because people want to god-mode and shit.

I'm a tabletop role player too. I just don't like mixing tabletop into the writing role playing that is FFU. They're two totally different things and I like keeping them that way. I think dice puts too many limits on just...writing.
Generally I just like it being on a case by case basis. I think that everybody's mature enough to know when too much is too much. The only time I've ever had an issue with someone being reasonable was when Mayu broke into my office and took stuff without even respecting the absolute difficulty of getting something out of the Headmaster of Firefox's office.
But I guess some people really need this kind of stuff spelled out in front of them. I don't really know what to do there.
Here's a two-point summary: -- All IC actions have consequences. You wander into the Forest or Castille, the evil beasties who live there may decide to kill you. You kill someone, Talon leads a mob with torches and pitchforks to your house. That's simple enough.
-- Lycans and Vampires need special permission because they need to be mature roleplayers that won't go around being overpowered bastards.
The implications: -- We trust the lycan and vampire roleplayers to be able to recognize the overpowered noobs versus the newbies who just didn't know better. By having an auto-kill rule spelled out clearly, we stop the drama early. "We can auto-kill. See? It says it right here. *point* " And that's the end of that.
Ta-da, end of discussion.
Speaking of the handbook, though, it's rather old. Maybe it's time for an update? It is the first thing (supposedly) that new users see, after all. If we streamline it, maybe it won't be so intimidating for new people.
