I know some forums allow you to read but not post. Can Proboards do that rather than locking away an entire board?
And instead of town square, perhaps "Downtown" might be a better name?
EDIT: Also, having the lake belonging to the town might seem a bit weird at first, since the lake in the book actually seems to belong to Hogwarts, but I think it's reasonable. It gives more freedom for people who aren't part of the school to go visit, and students can still go hang out there.

Sounds good to me. People can live in the downtown area too. A lot of people live above their shops, etc. Anyone else?
Also, suggestion. Pensieve Room. Put all the old threads there. There definitely some things we don't want to delete. I mean, Chang's has two pages of posts. Plus, it'll be interesting to see who uses it IC. Students doing research, unraveling secrets of the past and whatnot. What do you guys think? Is it worth a whole 'nother board?
Supposing it's placed in "Before you Enter the Magic World", then we need to throw out the IC part. And we'd need of change the name of "Before you Enter the Magic World" to something else, since it implies you need to read it before you start RPing, which isn't true.
I kind of like the idea of the Headmaster having a pensieve in his office, though, that people can use with his permission. Or barge in and use while he's not around. However, in the end it's your office.

I don't get why people just assume they can get into Talon's Office without an invitation. He keeps like...all the powerful treasures of the magic world in there. I can be a sport about people breaking in if they don't take that into account, but like, once they start just going 'oh I can get anything in one post' assuming that Talon doesn't have like a ridiculous amounts of enchantments on stuff...
sigh.
That's an argument for another time.

I had tons of fun in that thar Prefect's Bath. I'm also voting that it stays. The utter lack of prefects at the moment can easily explain its current inactivity.
Perhaps the pensieve could instead be in the library for all to look at? It's not as though the stuff is all secret or part of Talon's personal collection or anything. In the books, Dumbledore's pensieve had very personal memories stored inside, which was why it was locked away in his office. That's not really the case here. And students could freely look at it without much trouble. Also, I think it should include the old dances instead of them keeping the sub-board they currently have.
By the way, I'd really like to be able to read stuff on passworded boards. I think if you could do what Anil suggested, that'd be great.
I like the lake being in Drakkie.
I think all the common rooms should remain in the residential area. Otherwise, it feels really crowded on the homepage, and it seems unnecessary.
...since it implies you need to read it before you start RPing, which isn't true.
Except that it is. You're generally supposed to read through the rules of a particular board before posting there >.>
Aside from that, I am cool with having Pensieves, but it makes more sense for them to be sub-boards in their particular boards (kind of as they are now, with seasonal stuff being in the Library - that said, could we move the Diadem Pensieve from the Library to Diadem itself? kthx).
As I've told Jacob, however, I do not like having finished threads filed immediately into a Pensieve/archive. For one, it destroys links (and cross-referencing large numbers of threads is something I occasionally do). For a second, it simply looks better to see the index's boards filled with tons of threads and posts - FFU looks a lot less barren that way. Some may cry 'fluff', but ultimately, it really is a good thing. As any WoW player about DPS meter fluff. The mentality is universal. I am, however, most interested in the link-destroying aspect of archiving.

Yes - moderators and above have the option to sticky and lock threads, and then only other mod+ accounts (in the case of non-gmods/admins, only mods of the boards in question) can post in them. For example, the Hourglasses (linked) thread.

Mury, I think he meant that if we had a Pensieve board, new people would get the impression that they'd have to read that too if we kept it in 'Before the Magic World', not that you don't have to read the rules.
And yes, I believe it can be done (making it so that only a certain member group can post in a Common Room.) I'm actually going to go check it out now.

Eh. It only differentiates between 'Registered Members,' 'Only Staff,' and 'Everyone.' Az is a lot more savvy with this kind of technical stuff than me, though, so maybe he can figure something out.

Really now? Hmm. Never really paid much attention to it. I'd mess around with it on my own board, but I'm far too lazy >.< Always thought what I had said was the case.
[edit] Ah, wait, yeah, that's right, I remember what you're talking about (the dropdown with those choices when you're creating a new board). Hmm. So then, hmm. Hmm.

Hang on, I definitely agree with you. I'm not suggesting we file away anything. That'd be bad. I'm just saying that if we delete boards, the threads that used to be in them should go somewhere other than the rubbish bin.

Of course - I just pointed it out in case anyone got the brilliant idea to throw every single old thread into a Pensieve once we start working on the layout. But yeah; for example, if we take out one of the Drakky shops, its contents will be moved to a "Drakky Shop X Pensieve" board in the Drakborough category (assuming we go with the idea of making Drakborough and/or the Tunnel their own categories).
Eh... I don't really like the idea of having a Pensieve board on the same level as any of the IC boards. It only contains threads that aren't really relevant anymore, and it's not like you can post in it. It's basically just moving an entire sub-board that no one can post in onto the main page, which is messy and makes no sense. I think it's better to have it as as sub-board someplace, or just move all the threads into a main board, if that's possible.
Taking Chang's shop for example, we either throw it into a "Chang's pet shop" pensieve sub-board in the "Downtown" board of the Drakborough category, or just move all the threads straight into "Downtown".
