OOC: 's all right.
~~~
"I guess so... But the one I know best would be Diagon. It's a lovely place, quite small... About a dozen or two shops a side, the bank Gringotts at the far end... There's a wand shop, robe shop, book shop, pet shop, apothecary, and plenty of others... At the front... Well, The Leaky Cauldren is a lovely public house for wizards and other magical-world beings... Real cosy too."
Smiling as he talked about the place that was his adoptive home for six years, Lucius forgot about his books while he willingly and freely gave away that information.
Colette listened intently, very interested, and nodded when Lucius was finished. "I must go see ze Diagon Alley zis summer," she said with a big smile. "It seems like it is very much like ze place we 'ave in France."
With that, Colette opened up one of her books and she just flipped through it a little bit. She spotted a few interesting things she hadn't read before. From the bag at her side, Colette pulled out a piece of parchment and a quill and ink. She smiled up at Lucius before beginning to write a couple things down.
Even though it was summer, Colette still felt like she was in school mode because of the strict rules she was still getting out of from Beauxbatons.
"Why don't I take you, and show you around? If you want to shop there, I can help you get some really good bargains, you know?"
Committing several items of interest in the open book to memory, Lucius closed it and opened his bag before pulling something out and checking it.
"Hmmm... Owing to muggle transportation, we could be in London in about two days... Or there's the Knight Bus... Much less time, but more... Unusual..."
Post by Colette Gerard on Jul 29, 2008 20:34:21 GMT -5
"Ze Knight Bus is not unusual, I do not sink," Colette replied with a shrug. She and her friends had used the Knight Bus numerous times in their random trips away from school and such. She enjoyed it; it was interesting, to say the least.
"But... I am unsure for ze trip." Colette wasn't sure if she felt comfortable traveling with only one other person, and that person being a guy. "I am going to London soon with girls from ze school, we will shop zere. Per'aps zey will be able to show me ze Diagon Alley."
Colette hoped just going would be a fair trade. To her, it just seemed odd to travel with someone other than girls-- a giggling gaggle of teenage girls who planned to have an absolute ball while they were there, and to spend money. For Colette, it was always her parent's money because, no matter how outcast she seemed to be, they were still willing to provide, which always shocked the youngest Gerard daughter.
"Fair enough. I need to go back anyway... Got some things to pick up and what-not myself... Not to mention repair some burn damage to my wand. Being the focus of a fiery curse is hard on a wand I must say..."
Shrugging, Lucius handed Colette the sheet of parchment he had been looking at, written cleanly and clearly were various notes about shops and other things about Diagon Alley... He hadn't much need for it any more, he practically lived there, so he knew it all by heart.
"You can keep that sheet... It's very useful. Helped me out until I learned it by heart."
Colette took the note, looking it over with fascinated eyes which sparkled as she looked back up at him. It seemed so odd to her, a guy actually paying attention to her; normally they just thought she was young and then ignored her for the most part. Back at Beauxbatons, she had been popular, but still no guys spent a ton of time talking to her. Of course, she had also been a bit more shy... she shrugged off the thoughts and smiled gratefully at Lucius.
"Zis is very wonderful... sank you very much for zis," she said, the smile still on her face.
"Per'aps zere is a way to... shield your wand from being burned?" Colette asked, wondering if there was such a thing. "A potion to soak it in, or per'aps a charm. Shall we see?"
"You're welcome my dear... Gifts given freely to others will find their way back to the original owner in time."
Taking out the fourteen inch ceder and dragon heartstring wand, Lucius laid it on the table. The wood was charred in several places, almost to the core at the tip in fact.
"That's what I get for creating an inferno, or combining it with my dagger..."
It was true, by way of the good part of his curse, Lucius' powers and skills with magic were more... Different... By mixing his wand and his dagger, he could produce different effects depending on the situation... However, they took a toll on him, compared to the regular spell casting ways.
Colette lifted the wand delicately with one of her petite hands and looked it over. She ran her fingers over the charred spots. "Hmm," Colette said as she thought. Trying to think of anything she knew that would fireproof a wand, Colette came up short.
"I can sink of nossing zat would 'elp your wand, but I shall look if you would want me to do so," she said thoughtfully, setting the wand back down gingerly.
"What dagger are you speaking of?" Colette asked, suddenly curious about whatever knife Lucius had spoken of. She wanted to look at it, but didn't know if that was too forward of her to ask to see it, only to hear of it.
"If you would please... It's annoying to have to constantly get it repaired every year."
Nodding his thanks, Lucius turned his attention to the other matter at hand.
"This dagger."
Setting the item from the pack of his belt on the table, Lucius took his hand away, revealing the weapon fully.
"Silver and alchemical steel. Covered in runes I can not begin to identify yet... I can only guess they allow the weapon to merge with my wand, and adapt to the situation at hand... WOuld you care for a demonstration?"
Post by Colette Gerard on Aug 1, 2008 11:00:40 GMT -5
The dagger revealed was beautiful and very ancient-looking. Colette glanced quickly over the runes engraved on it, and began to wonder what they meant. Back at Beauxbatons, they had been required to take some extensive rune studies, but she wasn't sure how much she would remember.
"I would love to see what it does," she said a bit absentmindedly, still staring at the knife as she tried to think of where her Ancient Runes book was. In her trunk! Right upstairs! Colette hadn't had any time to remove old things from Beauxbatons before her new school supplies were put in, so she still had books from her last couple years.
Maybe she could suggest... would that be intruding, though? No, Colette was sure Lucius would appreciate it. "Zere must be books on zeese runes in ze library... but, if zere are none, I may use my book from Beauxbatons."
"right... This might be unusual... Since it's showed two shapes to me, I think there might be more that I haven't seen yet."
Picking up both wand in his left, and dagger in his right, Lucius blinked then remembered that it worked better when he wasn't wearing that glove on his right hand... His right always seemed to be more effective too, despite being left-handed. Setting the two items back down, he removed the glove on his right hand before picking them back up.
"Here goes nothing..."
Touching the wand tip to the pommel of the dagger, the fiery-haired teenager was able to push the wand most of the way into the much smaller dagger with little effort. The runes on the dagger lit up suddenly as it changed it's shape before settling on that of a kite shield.
"That's... New... Last time it was a sword, and the first time... A bow..."
Removing the wand from the under-side of the shield grip, Lucius watched as the shield became a dagger once again.
"That's three forms... And a demonstration... Perhaps if I..."
Trying one more time, Lucius watched as the two items became a bow comprised mostly of magic form the wand, and the hand grip being the dagger's hilt.
"Well... This is definatly the first form I found..."
Opening the window in front of them with his left hand, he stood back a little.
"Before we either look for a runes book, or you go and get yours if there are none here, can you pick me a target to fire at, like a rock or something please?"
Post by Colette Gerard on Aug 1, 2008 12:33:50 GMT -5
Colette watched with sheer fascination as the dagger and wand melded together as if they were made for each other. "Why do you wear ze glove?" Colette asked, allowing her curiosity to get the best of her.
Standing when Lucius did, Colette peered out the window and tried to decide on a target. The day was beautiful, and two birds on the breeze made Colette feel like going out and dancing as they were with the wind currents. Colette wished she were an Animagus... and began again to wonder if it was in her, to become the graceful and fierce falcon or hawk she had always desired to be...
Her thoughts snapped back to the presence as the birds came back into view and Colette spotted a rock that was big enough to see, but wouldn't be missed if it were gone. "Ze rock right over zere," she said, pointing at it and then looking back at her newfound friend. "Will zat do?"
"Mostly to prevent things that seem to like becoming fires from doing so... The rest of the time is to hide the burns that cover my hand from the intense fire manipulation that occurs when I become the start of an inferno."
Sighting down the bow, Lucius' keen, mismatched eyes swiftly spotted the indicated rock.
"It's perfect, thank you... Incendio."
Rather than pointing his wand and casting the spell, Lucius pulled the bowstring back with his left hand as he cast it. In place of a solid arrow, an arrow made of fire appeared on the bow as he pulled it back. Letting it go, Lucius watched the flame arrow fly, and impact directly onto the rock, pretty much blowing it into fragments and shards.
"That's the measure of the bow's ability. Much like regular casting, but it's more... Accurate and a little more powerful. But, it does drain my stamina to fire, and I have to call out what I'm using. Little use defensive-wise, since I can only cast spells made for offence this way."
Without being able to remove the wand from the magical energy, Lucius settled for willing it to disappear from the bow form, back to a state that looked like the two items combined without anything else happening... This allowed him to remove the slightly more charred wand from the dagger, and set them down on the table again.
"I'd have to say it though... If you tried that, the backwash of power coming from the shot would either burn you, or do much worse... I'm lucky I'm mostly fire-proof... But it's not an exact skill."
Which was true, amongst older, mostly scarred burns on his hand, Lucius had gained a shiny new burn from the last shot.
"It would seem however, that my glove prevents my hand from being burned by the bow string and spells cast with it, but lowers it's power... Unless I REALLY try to fire it at regular strength."
Looking back at the rock, he smiled slightly.
"Looks like someone's got a new rock garden though... Well worth the new burn."
Post by Colette Gerard on Aug 6, 2008 13:47:23 GMT -5
Colette was surprised at how strong everything about the whole performance was; it seemed to be well controlled and devastatingly accurate. "Absolument incroyable!" Colette whispered in surprise. "Zat was... very enlightening."
Looking at his hand, Colette saw how covered in burns it was. "Are you positive it is a safe tool if it so often injures you?" She questioned, wondering how bad each of those burns must have hurt. Then again, the dancer considered all of the injuries she had received in her life and how minor they had been to work out of compared to someone who wasn't used to such things.
Eyes back out at where the rock used to be, Colette was so very amazed. It was truly a very unique gift. "Ze runes will be very helpful to interpret," she mumbled, mostly speaking to herself.
The entirety of the day had changed so much that the petite girl was trying to keep up. It would soon be stressful and a little overwhelming, but that was something she was used to happening and easy for her to fix.
"You work with ze fire as a dancer makes a pirouette," she complimented.
"Not as safe as the regular means... But more effective... Flipendo seems to work wonders with it I must say... No fire involved.. Just a lot harder to control due to the ease it can be charged up even with a wand."
Blowing on the burn, Lucius watched as it started to scar quickly... It would seem that fire-related injuries he suffered heald quicker than the other injuries... Was it something to do with his curse, or something else?
"I guess it would be the curse's affintiy with fire that allows me to manipulate it so..."
Touching one of the lower down lanterns, Lucius picked the flame out and held it up above his index finger before placing it in the lantern on the table.
"That is one of the simplest things I can do... Fire is the most dangerous of elements however... I don't claim to have any particular mastery of it... Just an ability to manipulate it to the extent of not being hurt by it... Usually... However, while I can do great and wonderful things like that... The majority of it is destructive... Fire can help in the making of materials... It can melt iron and carbon together into steel, but only in the way muggles use it... Fire brings with it ash, which plants like for it's fertility... It creates new life from the ashes... But still... Fire kills. The border between the two is fine... But I swear that I will never use my skills for evil... Protection is what I am good at... But fire doesn't do that well does it?"
Having stopped for breath several times, Lucius shook his head sadly. It was a poor man who doubted his gifts... Ones that he could use to save people... However, if there was one reason to make him doubt them more than anything else, it was his dark half... The darkness inside himself that created the infernoes whenever he felt great negative emotions... That was what made him doubt his ability to do good whith what he had.
