Walking down the rows of books, a flame-haired youth glanced at the shelf headings while trying to find his way into the History section. Passing the odd student as he did so, Lucius wasn't quite paying attention to where he was going... At the rate he was going, the first year, seventeen year old would knock someone over.
"No... That's runes... No... History of Vampires... Oh? Defence Against The Dark Arts history? Interesting, but not what I'm after... Charms books... No... Transfiguration? Not too bad... But no... Not potions..."
Still not looking where he was going, the tall youth exited the row at what might have been the worst possible time.

Walking down a different row in the library, a petite girl with straight black hair was doing the same thing as the red-haired student. She had a couple books about Potions in her hands; one was Mastering Advanced Potions and the other was The Half-Blood Prince's Potion Book, which held some fantastic potions tricks. Colette was excited to have found both since Potions was not only her favorite subject, but also her best.
But she wasn't thinking about that when she rounded the corner.
Looking up, all she saw for a moment was a flash of crazy flame-like hair. "Are you... hurt?" Colette asked, feeling the bruises forming already. The tiny girl could have been the daughter of a peach and a banana with how easily she bruise-- then again, they also went away quickly as well.

One instant, Lucius was standing up walking, the next, he tripped over something quite small compared to himself and was on her rear and back before he knew it.
"Ow... Only my pride more than my tail bone... Or what little of one a human has left..."
Wincing and standing back up, Lucius offered his hand to the smaller girl to help her up.

Standing back to her feet and picking up the books, Colette set them aside ad brushed off her well-fitted blue jeans. What did this guy mean by 'dear young lass'? Perhaps it was just something he said on a regular basis?
Colette decided she would assume that, giving him the benefit of the doubt.
"I am bruised, but am ozzerwise unhurt," she replied, trying to smile a little. There was a bit of stubbornness in her eyes as she spoke, trying not to think of the fact that she was called a 'young lass,' especially since Colette didn't know if the red-haired guy said it all the time, or just to little kids.

"Good, good... I'm not exactly the most careful with where I put my feet... Then again... I'm not exactly around others less than my chest in height... No offence intended of cause... I'm just more used to seeing people near my height..."
More than a little embarrassed, Lucius rubbed the back of his head nervously... His hetrochromatic mismatched dark blue left eye and light grey right eye missed little detail, however... They failed to notice that Colette was a fifth-year, not a second year like her height would have led people to believe.
"But what's a second-year doing with fifth and sixth-year text books? It makes little sense to me."

The first statement from this guy was bad enough, but when he asked what a Second Year was doing... Colette felt the red-hot blush seep into her cheeks and her eyes took on a dagger glare that could practically do all the murdering by itself.
Her heart was pounding in her chest; the reason she had been happy to be away from home was to be away from her constantly mocking older sister, who were always making fun of her height. But even here, Colette was being teased. And she hadn't even been at the school a week! What a summer it was turning out to be!

"I'm sorry! Ich bin bedauernd!"
Slipping into the German language partially from what he knew, and ended up saying under stress, Lucius held his hands up as if wardign off the anger.
"I'm normally good at judging people's ages form their height, it's just this time... I got it wrong."
There was something stirring in his mind... Something that if he let it free would incinerate the library in fire... Not to mention everyone in it other than himself... Not something he wanted. As much as he was repressing it, the... Thing... Was trying to get free. Clutching at his head with one hand, he partially forgot about Colette being there.
"Get back into the abyss! Do not wake up in here!"
Slowly, the dark thing settled back into it's sleep on the edge of his subconcious mind. Remembering Colette's presence, he sighed and shook his head, as if trying to clear his head of something.
"I'm really sorry... I guess I should have thought what I was saying through a little more before opening my mouth... Wait... You didn't see my little outburst did you?"
Post by Colette Gerard on Jul 25, 2008 10:04:19 GMT -5
Colette was staring at the kid with her mouth hanging open and her head tilted slightly to the side when he began speaking to her again. The abyss... she was more than confused when he went almost back to normal only a few seconds after that.
"Your... outburst? You mean telling... some'sing to not wake up?" She asked, her voice having lost some of it's edge. She could still feel the anger boiling inside her; Colette wasn't one to calm down quickly, especially since the teasing normally kept going. For a moment, her older sisters flashed in her eyes and her heart skipped a beat as she tried to get them out of her head.
Still able to feel her anger and frustration-- the emotions she tried to keep at bay but, when released, were hard to make retreat-- Colette didn't really know what to do. Her petite hands were clenched into fists and contrasted with her breaths, which were slow and steady.
"What is going on?" Colette asked, still sort of glowering at the red-haired kid. She didn't trust him, she didn't like his random yelling... and she didn't like the fact that he had thought she was a Second Year.

"What's going on? What's going on is a secret. A dark secret I alone must bare... It is both a blessing... And a curse. What I can tell you is that it lets me control magic in ways not thought possible... And I am given an affinity to fire that lets me manipulate it to an extent... But that's the blessing. The curse is dangerous... And all I can say is that you should never make me angry or give me any form of unhappy emotional extreme... Lest the curse awaken form within my blood and destroy all around me. It happened once, three years ago... I was wondering off in the marshes in south England, and some people jumped me in an attempt to rob me. It took the muggle emergency services an hour to put out the raging fire that started from where I was standing."
Shaking his head again, Lucius tried to get the memory from his head.
"I can't tell you any more than that. It's a terrible thing I can not give anyone else to bare... Again, I'm sorry for insulting you. I didn't mean to do it."

Colette was surprised with his answer and was sure that he was telling the truth; what an odd tale to tell one you just met. Taking a step closer, the petite student looked into the taller male's eyes, her brows furrowed, trying to see if he was lying. When she stepped back, there was a solemn moment before she shrugged.
"C'est la vie," Colette said softly, unsure of what else to say. That's life. "I am... very sorry you 'ave to... live with zat... burden," she added at the end, knowing a cute little phrase wouldn't cut it.
Well, his explanation sort of explained the hair, but Colette was still trying to figure out why this person, whose name she didn't even know, would tell her things that he said were a 'dark secret.' It concerned her, but not enough that she would let it bother her.

"Ah, oui, I am Colette Elizabeth Marie Gerard," Colette said in reply, her accent complimenting her name perfectly, as it always did. In France, the Gerard family had it's bouts of fame, Colette included with her rising fame in the world of dance; that was why Colette was happy to leave France, even thought it meant leaving all of her friends behind. She didn't like the way her parents were treating her new-found (and short-lived, for the time being) fame, so she was happy to make enough trouble at Beauxbatons to get to leave.
Shaking her parents, and career that was put on hold, out of her mind, Colette focused on what was in front of her. Lucius Dante Infernus. Interesting name, Colette thought, and she liked it; she enjoyed interesting names.
"It is... interesting to meet you," Colette said, momentarily forgetting 'pleasing,' but at the same time, the word wouldn't have been fitting since their first run-in had been quite a bout of anger for the both of them.

Colette was surprised by the change of attitude that took place in Lucius within a span of a few minutes; one moment, he's so angry he's yelling at himself and the next, he's as courteous as can be.
"I... Thank you," Colette said in reply to the compliment. She wasn't really sure what else to say. Never had she gone from angry to confused so quickly, so she wasn't sure how to react to the situation. Running a hand through her hair, Colette was surprised by how imbalanced she felt in that moment.
The anger that had welled up as fast as quicksilver, and then cooled down from confusion had truly thrown her off. The tiny Fifth Year was confused about everything that was going on, really; had Lucius really just yelled at himself? And how had he calmed her down so quickly? That was something that had never happened before. Perhaps confusion made her anger dissipate.

"You're welcome my dear."
Being a an actor of some small skill in his own right, Lucius was doing everything he could to dissolve the tension. If it meant hiding his true feelings of confusion and what-not behind his politeness, then that's what he'd do.
"Are you totally sure you're okay? I mean, I wouldn't want you to be hurt physically in any way from my carelessness while I was walking."
