Mentally checking over the random little aches and pains, Colette knew they would all heal within a couple days. "I am well, nossing 'urts bad enough to need 'elp," she replied, trying to apply the same manners that Lucius was, so as to hide her confusion.
The little dancer normally just allowed her attitudes to flow, but Lucius was being so kind after she was so rude that she felt compelled to act nice back at him. She wasn't sure why, but it didn't seem to be so bad.
She sort of felt like she was hiding, though, and Colette didn't like hiding. She had always tried her hardest to be herself, so hiding even her confusion was odd to her. But she knew she would get over it, just as she would get over the minor bruises on her. "And you? Are you 'urt badly?" Colette asked as well.

"Only my pride... Been in far worse scrapes and suffered worse... Looked better than the other guy afterwards too."
Chuckling a little, Lucius smiled at the smaller student. It wasn't a harsh smile... No... that was the smile of the one thing that really grated him; the bully. His smile however, was soft, filled with the warmth of a bonfire.
"I'm glad you're okay... It was my fault, so I just had to make sure of it."
Picking up the two books she had dropped, the taller youth held them out to her.
"The science of the alchemist can be very rewarding... As much so as that of a guardian's knowledge of spells"

Colette took the books happily and mustered up a meek smile of gratitude. "Thank you for ze... adding some'sing interesting to my day," she stuttered, unsure of how to respond to his words of alchemists and guardians.
"I am glad you are unhurt," Colette added at the end. Glancing down, Colette saw that a stone was missing from a ring she had on her finger. The ring, set with a sapphire and small diamonds, had belonged to Colette's grandmama, and was the only thing of value she had from her family; also, it was the only thing that mattered to Collete since, when she was still alive, Colette's grandmama had been very kind toward her. The two were kindred spirits-- both very short and petite and both loved dance-- and her grandmama had given the ring to Colette as a gift.
In a moment of panic, Colette wondered where the little diamond had gone to, and how she had noticed it was missing. Normally, she kept it locked away, but since she had been bored earlier that day, she had been sifting through her jewelery box and had spotted it, donning it out of impulse.

Colette was amazed as to how quickly Lucius had found the mini stone, and so happy to pluck it out of his hand, a genuine smile on her face this time. Pulling out her wand, Colette set ring and stone next to each other and said, "Reparo!" The stone flew back into its place within the ring's grasp and she set it back on her finger, where it belonged.
"I truly cannot sank you enough... I cannot imagine what I would 'ave done without zat stone," Colette said, her voice finally sounding happy and true, instead of confused or angry.
Taking a step forward, Colette hugged Lucius quickly, a little hug that she thought would be sweet, just like she hugged her friends back at Beauxbatons. Stepping back again, she smiled, her blue-green-gray eyes looking bright instead of clouded with confusion, worry and frustration.

"I think you thanked me in the best way I know of."
Smiling at her again, Lucius had accepted the hug without complaint. It was the only kind of reward he'd ever accept... Well, that, or free meal and room for the night in most cases, but here, a hug was better.
"I'm glad your ring is fixed, it must really mean a lot to you huh?"

Colette nodded as she turned the ring on her finger. "It once belonged to my grandmama," she explained. "Ze only gift I 'ave ever received zat is important to me."
The statement coming from her was a little surprising; yes, she told people that she didn't really like her parents, but that wasn't really the half of it. And now she was saying one gift out of her fifteen years of life meant anything to her. Well, the words were out and Colette couldn't take them back.
"I... apologize for being so forward. You do not need to know every'sing about my family life."

"'s alright... I understand how family is... Mine were a buch who never appreciated me... Left at eleven for London. Worked at Diagon Alley for a while, helping everyone out and all that, saving in Gringotts, you know?"
Lucius had nodded sympatheticaly when Colette had said a little about her family... After all, he had gone through similar, His dad hadn't been nice ot him, but his mum and little sister had, but their attempts to make him feel better were overshadowed by the depreciating father of his home.

Again, Colette was caught off guard. How could someone be so open about things like this? Things that Colette had tried hard to just forget. But people were different and, perhaps, Lucius was this open with everyone. For Colette, though, the topic was one she always tried to avoid, especially since her gradmama's death a few years ago.
"Uh... yes, families all seem to be... difficult," Colette replied, not wanting to be rude, but wishing for a subject change. "Per'aps learning is ze best escape from ze outside problems," she added, hoping the topic of family would be dropped.

"Very..."
Noticing it was a touchy subject for her, Lucius followed the new line of conversation.
"There are some problems running away won't help with... You can run from a bully, but they'll be there the following day, and the day after, until you stop them. I can not stand to see a friend hurt or picked on... That, as someone who stands up for their friends and beliefs, is what I am; A Cursed, Caring, Friendly guy... It's my nature to help people with the right thing."

Colette nodded and kicked one of her feet against the floor, unsure of what to say for a moment. "I am 'appy zat you know to be good to people," she finally responded. The words were almost difficult to say since she wasn't always good to people and her family had never been good to her. But perhaps that moment and Lucius' words would create a change in Colette that she needed.
But she wasn't sure yet. "Well... per'aps we should keep to our books? Or would you like to go sit?" Colette asked, finally feeling dumb just standing there. She felt so insecure and she hated that, since she always tried to exude confidence. Now, just standing there talking about things she never talked about, Colette saw that her dancing was the only time she felt secure; even then, though, she liked to dance in private.
Last year, Colette would have still loved to dance in front of everyone, but when she began to rise in fame and her family began to use her to get to better balls and functions, Colette decided to stop dancing... but it had been to hard, to she just hid her skills for the time being.

"Yeah... Puts me in hot water sometimes, but if I didn't stick up for people, who would stick up for me if I needed it?"
Nodding when she suggested something about their books, he actually reilised he hadn't found the book he was after.
"Hang on... I haven't got one... I was looking for a book on the castle's history, beyond what I've read in Florish and Blott's... I'll be back in a moment."
Disappearing into another row, Lucius was amazed at his intuition, as moments later, he found several books on the castle's history... None of which he had read before. Comming back out with two of them, he smiled again.
"Got what I'm after myself... I may be a music fan, but I like to know more about things as well."

Trailing a bit behind Lucius as he again began his search for his books, Colette began to wonder what he was talking about. "What is... ze Floish and Botts?" She inquired, getting the name a little wrong without realizing it.
As the proud smile crossed Lucius' face, Colette smiled as well. "Ah, zat is wonderful," she responded, happy he had found what he was looking for.
But she was still trying to figure out what "Florish and Bott's" was, since Colette had only done clothing shopping in London. Other than that, all of her school shopping had always been done in France in a large Wizard shopping area known as Échange de Sorcier, or Wizard Exchange.
As the two began walking towards a big, empty table, Colette glanced down at her two Potions-related books and smiled; she enjoyed learning more about potions, just like Lucius liked learning more about the castle.

"Florish and Blott's? It's a bookshop in Diagon Alley, which is where most of us Englanders go for wizarding stuff... I did a lot of summer work there, and most days work until I was able to come here."
Chuckling a little as he sat down, Lucius opened both the books, and scanned the list of contents for thinks he might have already read before... None of which were present, so he started on the closest book to him.
"History is a vital thing you know.... Most people would discount it as unimportant, but there are plenty of mistakes that can be learned from history..."

Colette was interested by this 'Diagon Alley,' and wanted to stick to that topic rather than the topic of history. Sure, history was interesting, but she was discovering new things about the Wizarding world. These were places she could go to now, and she wanted to go to them.
"Zere are places like zis... Diagon Alley everywhere, are zere?" She asked, still very curious about it all. "I suppose I never sought about zere being ozzers like ze one in France. All our needs are met in Échange de Sorcier. Any'sing I 'ave ever done in England is shopping in ze Muggle stores."
{Sorry it's so short. Dead muse at the moment. Grr-ness}
