I've learned that goodbyes will always hurt,
pictures will never replace having been there,
memories--good or bad will always bring tears,
and words can never replace feelings.
She had actually recieved the news of Talon's sudden flight through a letter written to her by one of the school's groundskeepers. Due to her extreme dislike of the teacher's dormitory to which she had been assigned, the Care of Magical Creatures teacher mostly lived out in her classroom. That was where she liked it best, after all- out in the wild, with nobody out there to bother her. She was far enough away from the school to feel isolated, but not too far from the common comforts of humanity. She had actually expected for things to stay that way, at least until she recieved an owl late one afternoon. It had just been her and Bennett, enjoying a quiet moment together when God decided that her life wasn't difficult enough already.
Dear Miss. Rigaldi,
I'm disappointed to inform you that the rumours about the departure of Headmaster Talon Windwaltz are unfortunately true. He left in a state that could only be described as distressed and most out of character for him. I'm also afraid that he left no further instructions for the ruling of the school, besides a note that you should be the one to take over in the event of his death or insanity.
While I believe that he may one day return, I do not know when that return will be. The school is currently in imminent danger from a Society that Talon was somehow fighting against. It's a lot to ask, but we are running out of options. If someone does not unite the school under one banner now, we'll all fall seperately. I cannot see the destruction of the school, at least not in my lifetime.
It is of the utmost importance that you move yourself to Talon's office immeadiately and take up the position of Headmistress due to his abscense. Once there, you can decide a further plan of action once the situation has been fully explained. Also, I request that you burn this letter after recieving it. I don't want it to fall into the wrong hands and put your life at risk.

Had she really been so detatched from things that she had managed to miss such an important event? Or rather, an important string of events. And why her? Why now? Weren't there more experienced teachers out there? Or did he pick her for her skill with creatures? Could this only be a mere test of her skill? Regardless, she wasn't willing to put the lives of her students at risk in order to find out. She followed the letter's instructions and moved into Talon's office the very next day. It didn't suit her in the least- everything was decorated in his style, and she wasn't very fond of it. It was just something she had to get used to. The only thing that she changed was to set up a corner for Bennett to lie in, and a place to put his dishes. Other than that, she could manage to survive in the residence of a man who was still a stranger to her.
But now the question came of what to do about the Society. The school couldn't go down without a fight, so she knew that she had to assemble a coalition of sorts. She couldn't fight them alone, that much she knew. The very next day she sent out a series of letters to all the teachers and House Prefects, requesting that they meet her in Talon's Office the very next day at 7:30 sharp. There was not a moment to be wasted.
At the appointed time, Fiona made certain to gather enough chairs to seat the group. The thought of holding the meeting in the great hall had crossed her mind, but then she figured that Talon's office was much better protected against spies. Secrecy would be of the utmost importance. Everyone who had been invited had been issued a temporary password to open the door leading into the office, and now all that was left to do was sit back and hope that some of them might choose to come. If not, she really was in this alone.
