"Yeah I'm here," groaned a voice from the opposite side of the Phoenix.
The avian guardian leaped aside from its platform, revealing the door of the office where the Headmaster lived and worked. As the statue didn't really have a life of its own in the first place, it could not determine for itself that the person who had spoken this time was in fact his own Master, and not just a pesky student or the Deputy Headmistress.
Talon Windwaltz was home again, for the time being.
The Headmaster stepped into his office, his blond hair long and lacking in grooming. His purple robes were dirty and in need of changing. Talon sidled up the hallway before collapsing ontock the carpet that lay before his desk, removing his not-so-golden boots and throwing them into a pile of books - either romance or history, probably - and pulling from the inside of his robe a dusty looking old book. He smacked the book onto the top of his desk, which collided with several other things lying about.

This was the second time Yamaroshi had been to Talon's office. He did not know that it was rare to actually find the headmaster in his office, and he was lucky once again that Talon was here. Just like last time, Yamaroshi had come to find out more about the books like the one that had brought him into a sort of dream, and somehow granted him an extension to his elemental powers.
He reached the phoenix just as it had moved back into place. Clearly, Talon had just entered. He approached the phoenix statue, still not sure how to move it. He recalled his last visit. He had walked up to the statue and said hello...what am I supposed to do with you? He tried that again, as it seemed to work before. He didn't even get past the "Hello" before it moved out of his way. The boy's head drew back in surprise. Truly a strange way of guarding an office.
After knocking on the door gently, he stood and waited.
OOC: Welcome back! ^^

Talon had barely had time to settle the book down on his desk when the Phoenix that guarded his doorway shifted aside to allow someone else entry into his office. The Headmaster's eyes glanced down upon the cover of the dusty tome, a circular symbol that gave very little relevance to the actual content within. When the person at the door had knocked at least twice and it was necessary to call to him, Talon grunted.
"Come in, would you!" Talon shouted, and tapped the front of his desk repeatedly with his outstretched fingers. One thing was for certain, he definitely had to do a lot of thinking to do these days. If it wasn't some invading army, it was the Apocalypse caused by divine spirits trying to corrupt the building blocks of the Universe.

Yamaroshi flinched and felt an uncomfortable jerk in his stomach. It was not much fun to have a friend shout at him. Perhaps this was a bad time. Well, it was too late now.
He opened the door and stepped in, taking in the mess that was the headmaster's office. "Hi," said Yamaroshi calmly. "I had a couple questions." He barely finished his sentence before realizing Talon might not want to answer any questions. He seemed frustrated. "Unless you're busy that is," he said quickly in an attempt to recover.

Talon heard the door open and shifted his head to look and see who had arrived. To his pleasant surprise, he found it was not a student begging for help on his test or a teacher applying for a position - both of which he wouldn't be able to handle right now - but actually the precise person he needed. Well, there were several precise people, but this one was about as precise as one could get.
"Yamaroshi!" Talon said, his voice raised but amicable, relief clearly etched within the word, "I know you probably do, I'm sure the whole school has a great deal of questions for me, but I really don't have time to answer them. Maybe when we get back." With that cryptic statement, he ran to his files and pulled his wand from the inside of his robe and began to search magically through them for a certain one.
He finally pulled out a dusty old scripture, one that had only been put into the filing cabinet relatively recently, but was clearly over a millenia old. "It says here it was written in 391 A.D., no precise date...that isn't very helpful. Maybe directions can be given a bit more vaguely?" Without really explaining himself, the Headmaster rushed over to his desk and started pulling various objects out of it.

Yamaroshi flinched again as the headmaster's mood changed to the polar opposite of what it just was. It was as though he'd been hoping Yamaroshi would show up. He was rather disappointed at first that he would not be able to ask his questions, but reassured by the fact that he could...when the got back. Apparently they were going somewhere.
The boy was about to ask exactly where it was they would be going, giving, but figured his new question would be answered shortly, after Talon finished looking through his files. It wasn't.
It was when Talon returned to his desk that Yamaroshi decided to ask where they would be going. "So where will you be taking me this fine, um....whatever time it is?"

Talon continued to pull things out of the wooden cabinets in his desk without any sign of stopping to say anything else. It was only after he'd seemingly thrown absolutely everything out of his desk that his sapphire eyes looked up at the guest to his office, and after a brief moment of silence in which he simply stared at his former pupil, he pulled the final object out of his desk.
An old bronze oil lamp.
"Well, to be perfectly honest, I'm not even sure this will work, but it's our best chance to get an upperhand on the Nephilim when it comes to getting a hold of the Zodiac." He knew this would perk Yamaroshi's interest at least somewhat - all of the young Elementalists seemed to be magnetically drawn to the Guru and his knowledge of these seemingly endless fountains of magical power.
"I'll explain if this works...well, it should be evident if this works, but...well, let's give it a shot." He began to rub the lamp, rather awkwardly, while shouting the words, "JAVED! ANCIENT SPIRIT OF THE LAMP! AWAKEN TO SERVE THE MASTER WHO HAS FREED YOU!"
The room grew dark, the only illuminated thing being the lamp still in Talon's rubbing hands. Thunder was heard in the distance, and the room shook as the lamp started to throb. As Talon kept rubbing, the lamp seemed to swell in size, particularly the pouring end. Wind began to swirl through the room, blasting both Talon and Yamaroshi's hair backwards as if they were in a dramatic scene in an over popularized series. You could almost hear their grunting and groaning as they attempted to make their bodies handle the power...
Finally, the lamp erupted and a certain, big-nosed genie came splattering out, coating a wall before disappearing entirely with a 'pop' and reappearing, full form, in front of Talon. "TALON MAH BOI!" The excited genie spun about with a flourish, then focused on Yamaroshi. "A NEW ONE! You sure do bring home new ones a lot, sir. No offense, of course, but this female looks slightly... mannish..."
Sighing slightly, turban bobbing, Javed appeared once more in front of Talon, this time in miniature form with a miniature voice to match. The minived immediately started breakdancing, and music filled the room.
Pop!
Once again, a change. Being cooped up so long was not good for Javed, no sir it was not. He bowed to Talon, hovering in the air in front of him, and asked Talon the question everyone was waiting for.
"What is it that you wish for, sir? And, would you like a complimentary refreshment on the limits of your wishing?"

Finally, progress! Wherever they were going had something to do with the Nephilim and the Zodiac. He had not yet heard the name, but he could only assume Talon was talking about those wonderful books that make elementalists more powerful--the very thing Yamaroshi had come to Talon's office for in the first place.
Of course, this progress came to a halt as Talon went back into 'What-The-Hell-Is-He-Doing-Now?' mode. He had a lamp, and he began rubbing it, shouting about some 'spirit of the lamp'. The spirit came out of course.
Yamaroshi half expected nothing to happen, thinking this weird thing was what Talon thought might not work. But something did happen. Something that even a wizard would find bizarre. When the Genie had finished coming out of the lamp, Yamaorshi could only think this was a joke Talon had come up with. The genie was so crazy he was impossible to take seriously. And the wind and thunder? Talon could use both wind and lightning. It seemed to obvious.
His face blank, all Yamaroshi could manage was a small, "Um, Talon..."

Alright, so even though Talon had only seen the Spirit of the Lamp once, the Headmaster had still expected he'd be able to handle the second time the Genie had made his bizarre entrance. Even though he wasn't quite as shocked this time around - after all, he knew it was a Genie capable of such wishes and not just a prank - it still shook him the way the Spirit simply molded reality to his own wishes.
Then again, this magic had its limitations, something the Nephilim had no idea of. In this bizarre situation, the creature bound by its rules was truly unlimited in power. As Talon contemplated this, Javed had his way with his office, making every little movement into a full-scale production. The Headmaster pondered quietly on the side whether, if freed, Javed would take his skits to the stage.
If Yamaroshi had never made his quiet interjection, it would be likely that the Elemental Guru would've just pondered on into eternity about the nature of the Genie. Still, he remembered he had a job to do.
"No, my servant," Talon said, using the commanding tone to reassure himself that this was not going to backfire, "I remember well what you have told me I cannot do. However, what I'm going to wish of you might go beyond the things that you've said before, and I'm hoping that it will still work."
The scripture still in his hand, he thrusted it forward towards the Djinn. "This scripture was written in 391 A.D. - if you could use the...residue, I suppose, of that paper as a guide, I wish for myself and my former student to be sent back in time...to the morning of the destruction of the Library of Alexandria."

Talon blinked as the Genie's simple response caused the entire room to shudder, not in movement as if anything physical were happening, but as if the world around himself, Yamaroshi, and the spirit was but a curtain being pulled down from its bar. For a split second, everything was dark, because the fabric of reality had been entirely stripped away from them. Then the effects began to take hold - a great deal of pain hit Talon's skin, the kind of pain you feel when you are burned by being dragged across a rug. Clearly every cell in his body, magic or otherwise, could feel itself being pulled across the centuries - to a world in which it did not belong.
At least, the Headmaster hoped that would be the case.
---
Roman Province of Aegyptus, 391 A.D. -
A world that has been caught between two great time periods for centuries. Once a beautiful, golden (and questionably magical) kingdom of pharaohs and exotic gods, soon to become the center of the Coptic Church, a branch of the new sect known as the 'Christians' who would come to gain power in the Muggle World and overthrow all that was Wizardkind. During the zenith of the Roman Empire, it was the second most important province, containing a great deal of the wealth that brought Rome to its prosperous heights. The port city of Alexandria, where our modern heroes find themselves, was the life blood of this city at one point - with its mighty lighthouse, the Pharos, being a guiding light for ships lost on their way across the Mediterranean from Naples. Now, nearing the fall of such glorious civilization and the beginning of the Dark Ages, where it would take its place as the head of the Coptic Church, Alexandria was slowly falling to ruin and corruption. Symbolically, the Pharos, the guiding light of the city, was now only ruin.
The only hope for this city, at least in the eyes of wizards, was its library, a glorious edifice wherein all the knowledge of the Ancient World was stored. Known only to a few most scholarly of the sorcerous kind, was that twelve books were stored in a hidden chamber accessible only to wizards, a mythical place known as the 'Zodiac Chamber.' These twelve books held true assurance that Rome would never fall, so long as it kept these books well hidden. But should someone try to steal them, for good or evil...
When Talon awoke, he felt the hottest sun he'd ever felt before in his life beating down upon his pale skin. He suddenly felt a strong urge to strip himself of his thick purple robes and whatever other unnecessary garments he had that kept his body heat wrapped up inside his clothes. Spanish heat was something he had grown used to, but this sun...this awful sun...felt capable of roasting a chicken alive by just walking in it. He opened his eyes to find that very same sun glaring in his eyes, and with a sharp groan, he flipped over to his side to find both Yamaroshi and the lamp lying on the sandy dirt.
"Yama, you hear me?" Talon grunted, wondering if this was even real.

This must have been one of those situations people ran into where it couldn't get any weirder and did. And it didn't help that Talon still hadn't told Yamaroshi what they were doing.
He too felt the sensation of carpet burn, and that coupled with the sudden darkness made it seem as though the headmaster had gotten them both in a great deal of trouble.
The burning sensation did not end, and it was not until Talon called to him that the earth elementalist realized it was a different sort of burn. It was...the sun? They were outside, it was hot, and it was evident that they were no longer in Spain. He sat on up on his rear end, his right knee up with his foot on the ground, and his other leg lay on the ground. "Uh...yeah, I hear you," he said weakly, hoping some sort of explanation.

After hearing Yamaroshi's response, Talon took the effort to stand up - but the decision to do so was met with a bit of a shock. Perhaps it was smarter to simply sit up, as standing introduced the future Headmaster to not only the natural problem that was the sun, but also the location he was in. The two wizards were in the midst of a busy marketplace, surrounded by gaping shoppers who had stopped in the midst of their schedule to gaze at the intruders. "Oh..." Talon said, looking from one to another, feeling an odd emotion rising in his stomach, "Salvete amici."
The people simply scoffed and continued on their way, while some of the children (now being carried off by their Mother's hands) were still curious as to where Talon and Yamaroshi had come from. Though grateful that the initial shock was over, the Headmaster was still seized by the continuing realization that all this was in fact happening. He was in fact two millenia ago. Even more bizarre than that, the child that was staring at him would be long dead - of old age or some other plague - by the time Talon was even born.
He stepped over and picked up the lamp from the sand next to Yamaroshi, and held out his hand to the Earth Elementalist to help him up. "Well, come on, we have to find some place where we can get our bearings. Clearly this is not ideal."

Yamaroshi looked around, feeling about as puzzled as the crowd around the two wizards. Talon had muttered something in a foreign language, which Yamaroshi would have thought was a spell had it been accompanied by a wand gesture.
The boy just shrugged and took a hold of Talon's outstretched hand as the lightning mage told him the needed to get their bearings. What had just happened had not completely sunk in yet. He was to surprised by all that had just happened to realize they had gone back in time.
"So are you finally going to tell me what we're doing?" he asked quietly.
