Adrian walked into the library and plopped her tiny self in a chair. She hadn't received a letter from her father in months, but this morning was a little different. She got a letter with the length of one sentence. Apparently, her parents were getting a divorce. They didn't even ask her for her opinion and to be honest, it really pissed her off.
Useless. She felt entirely useless in her parents relationship.
The brunette just needed to escape. She walked over to a random shelf and pulled out a random book and went to sit back down at her chair. She studied the cover. It was called Understanding the Human Mind.
Rather convenient, wasn't it?
She flipped open to the first brittle page and instantly, she could smell the dust seeping from the book. It was quite interesting. People who express their feelings end up happier. It said to express your feelings through your dress or talk about it with another person.
She chuckled at that. Talking wasn't really her strong suit. The hufflepuff reached up a hand and grabbed her hair and swung it over her shoulder.
Channah didn't often find herself in the library. She made the occasional trip if a school assignment required some more research, but she didn't go there for fun. To be honest, Channah didn't really do much of anything for 'fun'. She did her classes, went to bed, woke up, repeat. Occasionally, she hung around as groups of friends interacted. That was about enough, for her. It wasn't that she was shy, no, it was just that, well... She didn't find herself that interesting.
She decided that she wanted to switch up her routine. What better way of doing that than to go somewhere she didn't often go? And even better, to approach someone not in her house and make conversation.
Channah spotted a lone Hufflepuff, which was odd. Hufflepuffs seemed the type to always be together, no matter what. The last time she'd talked to a Hufflepuff alone, she'd ended up getting a violin lesson out of it! How exciting. Channah felt her heart rate increase a little under her long-sleeved shirt and thin robe. She loved people.
"Hello," She said, her voice lowered for the sake of the library but still friendly and earnest. "That's an interesting looking book you've got there." Channah, feeling bold, plopped herself down in a chair next to the girl.

Adrian continued to read her book only realizing late that the girl was talking to her. The Gryffindor took the seat next to the puff.
"Oh, hi," she wasn't much of a social butterfly, "A really good book. If you like body language and stuff." The brunette swallowed, unsure of what to say next. In movies they always did something, what was it?
Oh.
"The weather is nice today," she said lamely. Apparently, it was a great conversation starter. Adrian only hoped that this girl would do most of the talking.
The puff was nervous and tried to keep her eyes averted. She clasped her fingers together and began to twiddle her thumbs, though it looked like she was just having a thumb war with herself.
The brunette stole a glance at the girl next to her and smiled slightly.
Channah smiled, a little confused. Body language? She liked... body language... as much as anyone else, she supposed, but a whole book on it... The more she thought about it, the more it intrigued her. That book was singehandedly more useful for handling day-to-day life than any other book in this library. This girl must be smart... Especially for a Hufflepuff. Or maybe that was the Hufflepuff's secret?
"It certainly sounds very interesting," Channah said. The conversation changed pace, direction. Perhaps she didn't want to talk about her book. That was fine with Channah, really!
"Is it?" Channah asked, craning her neck around to look for a window. She hadn't been paying much attention when she'd passed windows earlier. "Summer in Spain is a little warmer than I'd like, to be honest. It's nice, though, and definitely less depressing than winter." She settled back into her chair and turned back to Adrian. "My name is Channah," She said, deciding it was as good as time as any to introduce herself. "It means gracious. What's yours?"

The girl craned her neck to look for a window, then faced back to Adrian. Channah introduced herself and then included what her name meant. The puff tilted her head a little to the side.
"I'm Adrian. Not really sure what it means," she admitted shyly. The brunette felt like she was missing something in her part of the introduction.
"It's nice to meet you." She tried. Talking was not her thing like at all. She swallowed and with a sudden burst of confidence, she looked at her. Like really looked at her for like thirty seconds. It was awesome! The puff felt so proud of herself. Then she looked away quickly and faced down toward her thumbs.
"Adrian," She repeated, smiling. "It's nice to meet you too. I don't know what it means, either, but we should find out sometime! I bet there would be someone in town who could help us." Channah loved names, and was usually able to remember them, especially when given a face to put to it. It was part of why she included the meaning in her introduction, though it was also because she always felt like she should be saying more than just stating her name.
Channah, not sure what to say next, searched for a topic when she noticed that Adrian was sort of... Staring at her. Thirty whole seconds of just... Eyes.
Channah felt her face grow pink, and her hands grew fidgety. Was there... Was there something on her face? Anxious, she pushed a bit of dirty blonde hair over her shoulder. "U-um.." She started, trying to fill the silence.
"Um.." She was repeating herself. She felt dumb, and nervous. "Wh-what's your favorite food!?" A totally random question, but she had to say something, right?

Channah repeated her name. She mentioned that someone in town might be able to help them, but that would require talking to people. Not a fan!
The Gryffindor friend began to turn pink and fidgeted due to Adrian's stare. Body language was a good thing. Staring however, makes people uncomfortable.
Apparently.
She began to ask her about her favorite food. Did she really have one?
"Chicken. Yeah. Chicken," Adrian reassured herself, "What about you?" The puff smiled.
The brunette suddenly had an epiphany! Books have names in them and there would no doubt be a book about names in this humongous library! Adrian got really excited, but the look on her face was kinda creepy. How huge could a smile get? She reminded herself to breath every so often.
"We have this whole library, possibly a book about names could be in here." She made her smile somewhat evaporate into a simple cute smile. Why she was so excited, she didn't know. It was something you were supposed to be excited about, right? Yeah. Right.
"Me?" Channah wondered, her embarrassment slightly ebbing away. What did she like? She went through a mental list in her head, but she was drawing a blank. Her favorite food sounded like something she should have ready, at the tip of her tongue, but she just... she didn't know.
"I think I like, um... Pizza?" She cocked her head to the side, a little confused. It was really bugging her, now. That combined with the fact that she was curious Adrian's rather menacing smile and just what kind of chicken Adrian liked, she was fairly unsettled. Chicken strips? Chicken soup? Chicken hearts and gizzards? She'd tried those once, they were adequately delicious, but not something she would call her favorite.
A book, though! Yes, that would definitely work!
"I didn't even think of that!" She smiled happily at the other girl. "You're smart, Adrian. Let's see... Which section would that be in?"
Post by Adrian Adams on Jun 28, 2012 12:32:01 GMT -5
Pizza was good, but, in Adrian's opinion, chicken wings were better. Channah seemed to be a little freaked out. Of what? Adrian wandered.
"You're smart," The gryffindor had said to Adrian. That seemed to snap her back to the reality of everything. Her smile went completely away as she looked down.
Now was not the time to be the melodramatic puff that she knew she was.
She looked up and placed a small smile on her lips.
"Section? I have no idea. We can just start looking," Adrian said standing from her chair and searching the shelves with her eyes. She didn't see anything.
Though the subject had changed, it was still bothering Channah that she couldn't think of a favorite food right off the back. It would bug her for weeks to come, she was sure, unless she thought of a more satisfying answer. Because, really, who didn't like pizza? Besides, you know, people who didn't like pizza? Was she some kind of unoriginal freak? She was already ruining her first impression on this girl. It wasn't often that Channah got flustered, but for some reason, this Hufflepuff was doing it to her.
She had to brave on, though, and the girl did seem nice enough. A book, a book, one to help them with names. She got up as well, looking around the library. This place was a lot bigger than she thought, and it wasn't as clearly marked in places where it maybe should've been.
"Let's see... I suppose that would be... non-fiction?" Tentatively, Channah stepped forward, heading towards where she was pretty sure the nonfiction section was. Not that the fiction section was huge, considering this was a school library, but still, it was technically still a children's library.
A librarian would've been ridiculously helpful right now, or someone who at least knew how the library worked.
"Maybe... Baby names?" Would they even have a book like that here? She glanced towards Adrian. "Not that... You're a baby, or anything. I mean, like, you know, when you're naming your baby, I mean, uh," It was time for her to shut up.
Thinking about it, maybe a school wouldn't have a book that people usually only looked at when they were like, pregnant or whatever. But there could still be a historical book, or, or something?
She had an idea.
She turned to Adrian.
"I have an idea."
She turned back to the library at large, whipping her wand out.
"Accio Adrian!"
...She wasn't a Ravenclaw, and there was a good reason for that.

Channah began to walk toward the nonfiction section wherever that was, then started to ramble on about baby names. Adrian laughed at her.
A book of baby names was a good idea, but the brunette decided to let her ramble on.
Channah was so cute.
Then suddenly, the Gryffindor had an idea. The puff was all ears and stared curiously at the wand that had been pulled out.
Accio Adrian!
At first there was nothing, but a tingling sensation. Then like her chest was being pulled toward Channah. Adrian began to float and flew into Channah.
After toppling over her friend and landing on the ground, the brunette realized that her something was on her lips. A pause later, she realized it was Channah's lips. The puff pulled away quickly and got off of Channah.
Awkward.
"I guess that didn't work," she laughed, her face completely red.
Her first kiss--- gone. It wasn't that bad though-- Oh my gosh, what was she thinking?! She just kissed a girl!
She was disappointed, at first. Was that just not how it worked? She had hoped any books that mentioned 'Adrian' would come to her at that command, but it seemed like nothing had happened. Did she need to be more specific? Maybe 'Accio Books About Names'? Just how general could she b-
It was around then that something bodily knocked into her. Emphasis on the 'bodily', because it was just that: A body. They tumbled down towards the carpeted floor, and as they landed, she thought she heard the most silence she'd heard in her life. Was that a cicada? Or just her heart? Channah was disoriented, stunned for a moment, but it dawned on her.
They were kissing.
Sure, it was an accident, and maybe it was more of a 'push against' or 'fall against' rather than a kiss, but... But...
Channah blinked, and then it was over. She pushed herself up after a moment, feeling a little dazed, an odd feeling in her chest as she turned towards Adrian again.
"I-I..." She paused to take a breath. "I guess it didn't." Awkwardly, she smiled. It was her first kiss, too, but... Did it count? Did she really just kiss a girl on the library floor? Was it technically her kissing, because she'd used the spell, or was it Adrian that had kissed her because of her falling? Channah didn't know how kisses worked, and who took ownership of what.
"Ma... Maybe we should get some help." Her face was starting to feel warm, and she was feeling increasingly awkward and embarassed as she sat there on the ground, still half-feeling something soft against her lips.
"I don't, um..." Channah started as she accepted the hand that Adrian had graciously offered her. Her hand was girlish, slender, similar to her own. Channah let her pull her up. struggling to keep her speech coherent. "I don't really..." Awkwardly, she patted the back of her skirt and then smoothed out her front. "Maybe, do.." She was looking around, looking for anything to look at that wasn't Adrian or confusing.
"Would you be able to ask your parents?" She asked, her question itself innocent. She had no idea of the context of Adrian being in the library, of course, there was no way, and it seemed like it would be the easiest way to find out what her name meant.

Channah had been avoiding look at Adrian and smoothed her skirt.
"Would you be able to ask your parents?"
Adrian swallowed and averted her eyes from Channah.
"Nah. They probably wouldn't know," she tried to play it cool and smiled like nothing was wrong. She lifted a hand to her hair and began to fidget with it.
"Yeah, there's something around here to help us," she forced a smile on her face. She would rather go ask people about her name than ask her parents.
Should she try the accio charm again? She raised her wand and hesitantly stared at it. The puff was not good at magic. Maybe if the hufflepuffs went to class, they wouldn't suck at magic and house points.
"Um... Accio book of names?" she said kinda quietly and flinched. Why she did that, no one knows. She heard loud banging and then a book flew directly toward her. It hit her chest hard and she let out a little whine before walking over, putting it on the table and regaining herself.
"Hey, Channah, I got the book." She laughed a little and flipped open the book. She scrolled down the alphabetical book and looked for her name.
"Woman of dark features," she said. Adrian really felt jipped at that moment. But a name was a name and nothing but. She just started to laugh. All of that for 'woman of dark features'. Somehow, that was hilarious.
