Having finally had some free time to himself, Silvain decided to check out the strange sports field he'd seen on his way into the castle. He'd heard all the Muggle fairytales of witches riding about on broomsticks, but now he'd heard rumors that not only did they ride them, they actually played some sort of game on them...Quit-itch, or something like that...
The field was deserted now, but he was astounded at the size of it. It looked a lot bigger than a soccer field...And the stands were so high up, as were what he guessed to be goals...
Wow...This must be an intense game...he thought, making his way out to the Blue-and-Bronze stands.

Morgan took in a deep breath of autumn air. She hadn't ridden her broom all summer, and she missed it. Her Firebolt was in hand. the weather was perfect. She was ready to fly. This is what she did best, well, besides classes and that kind of bookish thing, but she was a ravenclaw after all. That was only to be expected. Her hair was braided tightly to her head, she was wearing jeans for once (Morgan hated riding sideways), and she was finally on the quidditch pitch. She saw a small figure near the Ravie stands, probably a first year. Didn't matter, he could watch her if he liked.
She took off. She lapped the whole pitch once, just for the sheer joy of being airborne, and then she broke out the fancy stuff. Loop-de-loops, barrel rolls, banking twisting turns. Tiring of this, she headed over to the figure. It was Silvain, the firstie she'd met the other night in the common room. "Hey there, Silvain! You fly?" she called, hoping that he'd say yes. She could always use more teammates.

Silvain, having been witness to that entire display, was star-struck.
"I want to now!!" he said, pure little-kid excitement welling up inside him. "Man, that was amazing! Can I learn to do that?" he asked, eyes wide and filled with hope and a kind of awe only a little kid showed a real wonder could pull off.

She landed. "Anyone can learn to do that. You're welcome to try my broom." She held out the Firebolt to him. Inside her head, the gears were turning. If he was any good on a broom at all, she'd find some way to convince him to join the quidditch team. They needed a new seeker and new keeper. "Okay, the first thing you've got to do is straddle the broom, like you would a muggle stick-horse. Then, you push off from the ground with your feet. Above all, you must remain calm. You won't be doing any tricks just yet, so there's nothing to worry about. Got it?" she asked, smiling.
In his Ravenclaw attire, TJ began to walk out on the field. Since he had entered Firefox, TJ had not been able to ride his broom. He missed the quick-paced, mindless sport they called broom-riding. He had played as Chaser/Seeker for his rec team back home, and was considered one of the best back there. Of course, at a large University like this, TJ would need to step up his game if he was to be considered a threat to the inter-house game of Quidditch. There would be no this year, for Sparky Cobalt, the ever spazzy Head Boy, would be competing on the 'Claws behalf in the Quadwizard Tourney.
His blue robes trailing behind him, TJ drew his new Comet out. It was quite advanced, and though his parents weren’t particularly rich, he had received one of the best that the Quidditch world had to offer. The broomstick was polished maple, with a gold-trimmed handle holding together the golden-fibered broom corn fibers. It had TJ’s name in-scripted into it, and the sleek design was eye-candy to ongoing passer-bys. TJ was proud of it, and showed it with satisfaction and delight as he walked out onto the well-maintained field.
Mounting his broom and kicking off the ground, TJ felt the rush of air blowing against his face. Smiling at the adrenaline-drawing activity, the broom-mounted Ravenclaw spun around in the air, landing several tricks successfully. Zooming to the other end of the field, TJ spotted two Ravenclaws down below. It was Morgan and Silvain!
Silvain was mounting a broom, and TJ assumed that the Morgan was teaching Silvain how to play Quidditch. If the cards played right, Silvain would be a second-year ready to join the team by the time the Quadwizard Tourney was ready. Ah, perfect. TJ nosedived down and pulled up just at the right time, skidding smoothly to a halt. Smiling at the two other Ravenclaws, TJ smiled goofily. “Yo guys! What’s happening?”

TJ's careless performance only made Silvain more eager to try this new activity.
"Trying a broom for the first time," Silvain replied, grinning excitedly. He mounted it as instructed, glancing up at Morgan. He was nervous, but the excitement evened them out.
He "kicked off" from the ground by sort of jumping, and, to his great surprise and wonder...he stayed there!
"Oh man, oh man!!" he was stationary about six feet in the air, just sitting there, eyes wide, hands in a death grip on the broomstick, legs swinging slightly.
"AWESOME!!!" He grinned like a lunatic down at Morgan and TJ.
"How do I make it go?!" he asked excitedly.

"You lean forward to go, lean back to slow down. Pull up on the handle to go higher, push it down to descend. Turning is pretty self explanatory. Also, Silvain, your feet should go in the stirrups, to give you more control." She remember her cousin, Tristan teaching her to ride when she was a little girl. She had been so scared. Morgan was glad T.J. was there with his own broom to help him in the air if he needed it. "If you're good, we'll have to get you your own broom. Teej, why don't you fly with him a little, until he gets more comfortable."
((^^This is very similar to Morgan's broom. Where the word 'firebolt' is is where Silvain is sitting. the pegs near the tail are the 'stirrups' I was referring to.))

((Oo, I like that Firebolt. And I've seen the movies, so I know where the stirrups are, thanks though.))
Silvain looked down to see the stirrups mentioned, unintentionally tipping the broomstick down as he leaned forward and started to descend in a forward line slowly.
"Oh no!" He pulled up, too sharply, and almost back-flipped.
"Ahh...! This is scary...and fun," he said, grinning still as he righted himself. He hooked his feet in the stirrups and felt a lot more secure now. Still grinning, he forward slightly and pulled the broom up, a tricky thing for a first0timer to manage, and the broom inched forward.
"Ha ha, yay-WHOA!!" In his excitement, he'd leaned forward way too far, and, without warning, the broom shot forward.

Her eyes wide with shock, Morgan brought both hands to her mouth as Silvain wobbled about uncertainly in the air. She hoped he'd be okay, she didn't want injury to him on her conscience. Please be safe... Please be safe... she chanted mentally. "T.J., get up there!" she managed to get out, not taking her worried eyes off of Silvain.
Just as she was about to relax, seeing him get the gist of it, he shot off, much faster than a novice like him should be going. "Silvain, slow down!" she shouted unnecessarily. Obviously, he'd remember to slow down soon, but Morgan couldn't help but feel a little responsible for anything that might befall the boy. Hopefully, he'd enjoy riding a broom enough to join the quidditch team next season. In the meantime, Morgan resolved to teach the boy everything she knew about riding brooms, provided he still wanted to know.
"Daang," TJ said as he looked at Silvain, but he was interrupted by Morgan's abrupt command. "GET UP THERE!" TJ snapped out of his ‘happy’ trance and nodded. Hopping onto his elegant broom, TJ popped of the ground and flew into the air. Silvain was going way too fast for his own good, and anytime he could easily fall and break something that never intended to be broken…
Gaining speed, TJ flew up higher and higher, slowly reaching Silvain. TJ could hear a distant command from Morgan, but if he couldn’t hear it, Silvain couldn’t either. He was a smart kid. He’d slow down soon; if an injury didn’t stop him, first. TJ finally reached Silvain, who looked absolutely exhilarated from the broom ride. TJ could see his first-timer excitement, but TJ was more concerned about safety measures than fine-riding.
Flying alongside Silvain, TJ smiled as the air current blew against“Yo Silv, you gotta slow down a bit, man. You’re a natural, but keep it safe or else you may… break something.” TJ smiled and motioned for Silvain to dip down slowly, but gradually enough.
“Now,” TJ said, “First thing you’re going to want to do is stabilize yourself. So, focus more on staying steady than accelerating. I know you probably think this is all boring crap, which it is,” TJ added with a wide smile, “But this’ll stop you from falling when some hobo Chaser opponent or rough weather conditions happen. Understand?”

Silvain pulled up sharply on his broom and almost backflipped yet again, but managed to skid to a stop, rising slightly. He took a couple seconds to find the right position to not keep drifting one way or another, which was comical for a couple seconds as it appeared that he was being blown about by very slow breezes.
Finally he turned to T.J., still grinning. "Um...can you repeat about...everything from the beginning to the end?" he asked. "I was kinda...trying not to fall or crash or gte hurt or anything," he said, his face flushed from excitement and fear.
He suddenly looked around, and blinked, surprised at the distance he'd covered in that short amount of time.

"Yeah, sure," TJ said, then realizing that they were almost on the other end of the field. They had traveled quickly! Some stray broom-riders were zooming around the field, but Silvain and TJ ignored them, since Silvain was obviously to exhilarated to notice. "Okay," TJ said, tightening his grip on his Cleansweep, "We're going have to dip slightly, to get to lower ground. Then I'll teach you to turn around. But make sure you keep steady. One more mistake, and you'll lose major balance." TJ smiled and slowly dipped, waiting for Silvain to follow his lead.

Silvain stared at TJ, studying his position and how he controlled the broom, and attempted to copy it. He started drifting forward as he descended slightly, though, and had to keep remembering to sit up straight and not lean forward like he wanted to.
It was trickier than it looked. But he was managing.

"Right-o!" TJ said, his grin creasing even wider, "Perfect! You're gettin' the hanging of it. Just make sure you keep that posture. We'll be turning around soon, so we can get to Morgan. " Silvain was a natural, though a little overexcited at first. TJ thought Silvain would be an excellant broomsman with good teaching and a few pointers. Otherwise, Silvain was getting pretty good.
In perfect riding posture, TJ did a quick 360, a reckless grin appearing on his face. TJ had often competed in 'trick-riding', and was considered very good by his friends and family. "See Silvain," TJ said, smiling recklessly, his face lighting up in a mischievous light, "This is what you can do later." Kicking his broom around, TJ made a sharp turn and started to fly the other way.
"Silv, hurry up and turn! Make sure to keep your feet steady, and to hold on tight."

"Um, um!" Silvain tried to remember what Morgan had said about turning. She'd said it was self-explanatory...what does that mean? He tried to lean slightly to the right, a difficult feat on a three-inch-wide wooden stick hovering about ten or so feet in the air.
"Yay!" His face lit up as the broom slowly rotated, and he leaned a little harder and forward. the broom started to bank a little faster. He grinned.
"I'm doin' it!!" he called, turning to face the others then leaning forward. "MAN this is hard..." This time, rather than diving without leaning forward, now he had to lean forward without pushing down on the tip of the boomstick.
Finding that a little too difficult, he ended up roll-coaster-ing the broom in toward the others, having to keep pulling up after he descended accidentally in a series of waves.
