TJ could see Silvain getting the hang of it, and he put his thumbs up in encouragement. Riding the broom without any hands on it was, well, risky, but TJ had mastered the technique five feet above ground back at home. Nothing like turns or dives, but a simple vertical riding could be accomplished. "Silv," TJ yelled, "Good job!"
Silvain seemed to have had a sudden mishap, and Morgan's broom began to bob up and down, with Silvain holding on tight. TJ flew closer to Silvain and cleared his voice. "Silvain," TJ said, his hair being brushed against his forehead by the wind current, "Stay steady! Unlock your arms and stop tensing up. It'll help."

Unlock...? Silvain looked down and realized he was holding the Firebolt in a death grip. Maybe that was the reason he found he kept diving.
He also realized that the act of looking down was pitching him forward, and he pulled up again, leveled out, and slowed to a stop. He took a breath to stady himself, then looked around at TJ, who looked absolutely comfortable on his broom.
He snickered as the thought of actually riding a broomstick occurred to him just then. Why a broomstick? he wondered, grinning to himself. He looked down, this time careful to angle only his head and not his body, and relaxed his arms. He lifted one off the broomstick and found, again with surprise, that he was easier to stay on the thin stick than normal.
I wonder if that's a charm, he thought. He lifted the other hand off the handle, and, to his great surprise, he seemed to be keeping level. He put them both back on the wood soon, though, not feeling safe even though he realized he must be.
"Cool..." It's easier to stay on this supportless piece of wood than it is to stay on something like a hand rail at the park...Which he had tried to do, as all little kids attempt at least once in their life.
He bent his arms, trying to relax a little more on the broom, and leaned forward slightly, keeping his hands and the broomstick level. The broom began to move straight forward, and he grinned wider. He leaned forward a little more, and cruised right over to Morgan, tipping the broom forward and managing a rather clumsy but stable landing.
He looked up at her and TJ, excitement shining in his eyes.
"That was amazing!" he said. "I think I get how to use it, c'n I get one of my own?" he asked.

Silvain looked like he had understood, and slowly leveled out, steadying himself. TJ was glad that Silvain caught the drift, and was even more happy when Silvain rode, slightly unlocking his arms. "He's getting there," TJ said low enough for no one to hear. His muscular fingers wrapped around the broomstick firmly, his arms bent in relaxation.
As the brown-haired Ravenclaw looked back at Silvain, his face turned lividly pale in fear. Silvain was riding no hands! "Silvain!" TJ yelled at the top of his lungs, "What the heck?!? Get your hands back on the broom!" He was keeping level, and doing an excellant job for a beginner. He had done much better than TJ when he first started, and TJ wasn't really as worried as he should have been.
He was just a little cautious, since any accident would be his responsibility, cost his relationships with Silvain, Morgan, and anyone who would hear, as well as hurt Silvain.
Silvain might not have heard him, but TJ was relieved when the young, silver-haired boy put his hands firmly onto Morgan's Firebolt, zipping away. "Whew," TJ said, wiping his brow of deep perspiration. Silvain then bent his arms and loosened up, finally getting the hang of it. Now he was flying!
TJ lifted his hands and cheered, winking to Silvain. The little kid already probably already knew that he had accomplished breaking the wall of fear and tensity, and now everything would come easier. Silvain dove down and landed a little clumsily. Will have to work on that, TJ thought in the back of his head, but was still nonetheless proud of his friend.
Zooming down and arching his broom downwards, TJ landed smoothly, hopping off his broom and holding it by it's core handle, brushing a stray moth out of the bristles before walking over towards Morgan and Silvain, who looked ecstatic.
"That was amazing!" he said, "I think I get how to use it, c'n I get one of my own?" "Yeah," TJ said, "If you have money, you could get your own. If not, you can use a school broom. If you need to, I have some extra pocket money I could donate. By the way, a little risky with the 'no hands', but great job!"

"Heh heh, yeah..." Silvain laughed a little embarrassedly, looking up at TJ. "I was just tryin' something for a sec there. It was easier to stay on it than I thought it would...I made sure I wasn't moving or anything before I did, though...An' I don't wanna take your money, though. I can use a school broom, at least until I figure out the wizard money-system-thing..." He still was having difficulty placing the values of a Knut, a Sickle, and a Galleon as compared to Muggle money.

"Well," TJ said smiling, "You did a good job nonetheless." After Silvain had said that he didn't quite understand the concept, TJ looked at Silvain, smiling. "Well, if ya don't mind me asking, how much do you have right now? A good broom costs about twenty galleons..."
Post by Silvain Aurel (is leaving) on Oct 4, 2007 16:38:48 GMT -5
Silvain frowned. "...Definitely not that much...Um, how many sickles to a galleon?" he asked.

"Well, Silv, I believe that 17 Sickles are the equivalent of one Galleon, and 29 Knuts are equal to one Sickle. 493 Knuts are worth one Galleon, so Knuts are relatively cheap. A Galleon in British Muggle currency is about £5, or five pounds, respectively." TJ calculated it into his head to make sure that it was correct, but being a Ravenclaw, it didn't take long.
So anyways, I could donate a few Galleons. My parents give me 5 Sickles a week for spending money here at Firefox, but my gran'parents send me truckloads of Sickles and Knuts. They spoil me with all of their spare change. You see, my gramps and gram are pretty well off." TJ chuckled. "So I could pay for half. No rush to pay back." TJ looked at his broom and raised it up to Silvain.
"See, this Broom here," TJ said, rubbing the polished broomstick's cylindrical handle, "This is pretty top line. I save up most of my money I get from my parents and grandparents, but I occasionally get junk. I'm pretty spoiled in that way," TJ said with a laugh. "So yeah, what do you say? Us three could stop by at Drakborough later on."

"Actually, your money won't be neccesary, either of you. As captain of the Ravenclaw Quidditch team, I will buy your broom. My father sends me about 20 galleons a month, and I haven't really used much of it since school started. He actually sent me a little extra, for school supplies. Besides, he's always willing to give me anything I ask for, and if I ask him for a new broom, he'll send me one, and Silvain can use my old one, unless, there's a model you specifically wanted. Then, I'd just have him buy it, or we could go down to Drakkie and get it ourselves with my allowance." It was nice being loaded sometimes. It wasn't like she was buying friendship, but Silvain needed a broom, and she happened to have the dough to buy one.

Silvain looked up at both of them with hope and happiness.
"Are you guys...serious? Man...Thanks so much!" Being raised by Muggles, Silvain was pretty much broke in the way of wizard money.
"You guys are...really nice," he said suddenly, off-topic. He smiled up at them. "No one ever would buy or give me something that expensive..."

"Hey, I haven't got anything else to do with my money, and besides, if it'll persuade you to join the team, I'm just making a smart investment. So, I'll lend you a copy of my latest copy of Which Broomstick, and you'll let me know what model you want. Actually, I've been looking to get a new broom myself. This one's two years old, it's time to upgrade." When she had first come to FFU, it hardly occurred to her that there would be people to whom, a few Galleons were a big deal, but even after a couple of years around people, she still spoke quite carelessly about her wealth.

"The team? You mean, like...the team that plays here?" Silvain asked, pointing at the stadium. "But...I don't know anything about um...Quit-itch," he said, breaking the foreign wizarding word into two English words he knew.

"Alright, Morgan," TJ said in reply, smiling widely. He didn't realize Morgan was so loaded, but he respected her kindness, and her severing of the connection between money and friends. She had friends because of her own friendliness, warmth, and generosity and TJ appreciated it a lot. And she was loaded, so she could help less-fortunate-financially people, such as Silvain, get stuff that was necessary and unnecessary at the same time, stuff that costs loads of money. Like a broom.
“We can get it however way you and Silv want. Besides, I need to go to Drakkie to stop by at Chang’s. My dog Will… wait, you’ve never met my dog will, have you? Anyways, I need to get some flea-powder for Will. He’s all itchy from rolling in a itch-spell prank meant for a student… oh, never mind. So yeah, I need to stop by, so if we do end up going, count me in.”
Silvain looked at Morgan and TJ with sparkling eyes, and TJ felt a little awkward. Almost as if he had looked up at them. I guess that’s okay, TJ said in his head, Silv is one of the coolest little buddies I’ve ever had. "Are you guys...serious? Man...Thanks so much! You guys are...really nice. No one ever would buy or give me something that expensive..." “Heh,” TJ said, shrugging, “Morgan did it all. She’s the one you should thank. I did nothing ‘cept give you a few riding tips. Anyone could have done that.”
TJ wasn’t particularly good at taking compliments, though he secretly liked them. Maybe because even though his brother jokingly put him down, TJ took it seriously. He looked up to his brother, Max, a lot, and was crushed when his brother made even the slightest downing remark. That was yet another part of TJ self-revealed to TJ at Firefox.
This one's two years old, it's time to upgrade."
TJ smiled. His broom was a really good one, and he didn’t need any new one. As for Which Broomstick, TJ had loads of editions of them. He was what they called an avid Quidditch freak.
“You guys are gonna make me feel left out,” TJ said, smiling in mock sadness, “You guys are both getting new brooms…” TJ then chuckled and sported a grin. “Joking. Anyways, that would be neat. Check out the newest models, too.”
CURRENT:
"The team? You mean, like...the team that plays here? But...I don't know anything about um...Quit-itch.” TJ laughed at his innocently ignorant remark. “Well Silv’,” TJ said, “Me and Morgan here could teach you the basics of Quidditch after you get your broom. And yeah, the team. I’m not on it, but hopefully I can get a shot at it. I’m decent, and from what I’ve heard, they need some players.”
Post by Morgan Pendragon on Oct 5, 2007 15:21:04 GMT -5
Morgan let out a short burst of laughter, before she managed to stiffle it. "A few players? Teej, I need to practically rebuild my team. Two of my players graduated, one turned even more anti-social, and some, I just haven't seen at school this year. You both have a good shot of making the team, once I've seen you train up a bit."
She turned to Silvain. "Don't worry, I'll personally make sure you have an excellent broom. You've got raw talent, and that's not something you see everyday. If you gentlemen will excuse me now, I've got some things back up at the school I need to take care of. I really shouldn't have even come out to ride, but I'm glad I did. Silvain's a natural rookie. See you guys later," she said as, broomstick in hand, and bag over shoulder, she headed back towards the castle.
Post by Silvain Aurel (is leaving) on Oct 5, 2007 16:02:32 GMT -5
Silvain beamed as he waved after Morgan. Talent...really? He wondered if Morgan had really meant that. Both of them had complimented him while he'd been riding...And he had had a lot of fun...
Man, that would be so cool, to be on a team with other people...I just hope I don't get in the way or anything, he thought to himself, his smile fading slightly as he watched Morgan go. If he got in the way and made them lose...
Suddenly, as the thought occurred to him, he got really nervous, as he was prone to. He looked up at TJ.
"Oh man...What if I'm not good even when I get a broomstick?" he asked hesitantly. "...I mean, you guys are way older and you know what you're doing and...and stuff. I'd be, like...the least experienced person on the team..."

"Silv," TJ said, "You're like Morgan said. Raw talent. A diamond in the rough. You'll soon be polished and will shine brightly, cause you have the talent. Trust me, dude." TJ smiled and patted Silvain on the back, his eyes locked onto Silvain's slightly worried gaze. Silvain was genuine and transparent with the bronze-skinned teen, and TJ felt comfortable and honestly appreciative of the fact.
"Even if you were the youngest person on the team, you'd still be good. With a little tuning. Besides, I have a feeling that most of the Quidditch players on our team will be either young or rusty, with the occasional veteran. And besides, you and I still have to train for next year." TJ laughed slightly as he pushed a strand of his growing hair out of his face. His hair was growing out, and TJ knew he should trim it so that it looked better.
Looking at his watch, TJ realized that free time was almost over, and that classes "Yo Silv," TJ said, smiling as he started to attach his broomstick to a guitar-strap-like strap, attaching it to both ends of the broom. Putting it over his head and slinging it over his shoulder, TJ continued with, "Dude, we gotta scramble. More classes, but we'll stop by at Drakkie to get your new broom. 'Kay? See ya, man." TJ patted Silvain on the head in a brotherly gesture and walked off the field.
