Had her mission not been so desperate Roan would find the irony that she know was pulling the Headmaster towards the Hospital Wing rather than the other way around. Last time she had been passed out and missing an arm. This time he was charred and suffering from the effects of taking his fire back from her and plummeting from the clouds back to the top of the Tower.
The journey had been a nightmare. Roan herself was weak of mind and body from the ordeals she had been through. When the power had taken over her and assaulted the people she cared about she had been helpless to stop it all. And then Talon had torn that power from her body and that paired with the tenacity she had pursued everyone that night left her exhausted. However failure had never been an option from the moment she wrapped an arm around the Headmaster. This would be one person she would not lose to her loss of control that night.
The battle had wrecked the stairwell pretty badly and Roan had to navigate fallen stones with the body in tow. She had tried her best to not cause him anymore damage which involved lifting him so he wouldn’t be dragged. All the while she whispered under her breath and sobs, asking the Headmaster to stay with her. Telling him it was going to be okay and that he would live through this. Each mumble of reassurance towards him was paired with a curse towards herself in her mind. If she had just kept control of her fury when Phugsius had attacked her none of this would have happened. Now at least one was dead and possibly more were close to it.
At the bottom of the Tower she found flaming remnants of their battle and she leaned Talon against the stone wall of the stairwell and tried not to panic. These flames were remnants from her but Roan was terrified to try and tap back into her power to put them out. What if she reached back into it and got taken over again? “Crema…Cremare Tolare!” Roan stuttered out and clamped down on the fire blocking her path. It resisted her sensing a weak will but she eventually got it extinguished enough that she felt comfortable shouldering Talon’s weight again and moving forwards.
Minutes felt stretched like hours as she plodded on clumsily towards the school. The sun was starting to come up the horizon when she finally got within the building. “Hold on Talon, we’re almost there. We’re in your school.” She whispered dryly. Roan’s legs shook as she got Talon up the stairs one step at a time. Her goal of the Hospital Wing was realized and she felt a small spark of hope in her chest as she got him inside and laid him down as gently as she could on the nearest bed. Carefully she made sure he was as comfortable as possible before finally letting part of her strength give in.
There was barely strength to yell for help while looking down on his form as her eyes clouded with tears again. It felt like a monster was clawing at her chest with an untamed fury. Roan took a deep breath and called louder for those who stayed in the Wing to help others. “Someone help please, it’s the Headmaster!” Her hazel eyes closed as she sank to the ground and covered her face in her hands, sobbing and unable to keep fighting on. Between sobs she kept yelling for help because saving Talon was well beyond her skills. 85
