Chika laughed at Phugs comment as she pulled him up. after she had finished talking to Ryo-kun she turned back to Phugs. " I saw that. Those bunny ears behind my head. Don't think you can act all innocent and get away with it" Chika Smiled mischievously at him ". That's it tickel attack" Chika said as she lunged at Phugsuis.

Morgan had woken up late.
This wasn't really her fault, see. What had happened was this: the night before, she'd had second shift prefect duty. Now, there were three shifts during the night, but second shift was undoubtedly the worst. She hadn't even bothered going to sleep before hand, as there really was no point. Instead, she straightened up her trunk and tidied her room. She was in Teagan's old room, which was weird, and like the former Head Girl, she had the place to herself.
Then, there was the watch itself. As long and tedious as any she'd been on, but because nobody had chosen replacement Prefects yet, Morgan didn't even have the option of patrolling with a partner. Not that's she'd have wanted a teacher for a partner either. She might be a brown-nosing grade grubber, but even she had her limits.
She had sunk gratefully into bed when her shift was up, and it had taken no less than five attempts by Dora and Mondleid to wake her. As it was, she had had to skip breakfast (lucky she kept snacks in her bag), and instead of doing anything nice with her hair, it hung long and straight down her back with only a wide, blue headband to keep it out of her eyes. No jewelry at all, and only mascara and clear lipgloss as far as makeup went.
Still, as least she wasn't late yet. She got to the armor blocking the way. "Morgana Seraphina Gwendolyn Elle Lyllwyn Pendragon. Seventh year. Ravenclaw House Prefect." The swords swung aside even before she completed the last word. At home, her father had guards like this in front of his personal study, who refused to move unless they knew your name, your intentions, and your favorite color.
Morgan stepped inside, and was delighted by what she saw. This would be a fun lesson, no doubt. She saw Phugsius, Chika, Felix, Sam, and another boy and girl. She smiled to the room in general, and then sat next to Sam. "Heya, Sam. I thought I might find you here. I guess you got your wish after all." The last time they'd talked, the day she'd met Sam, actually, he'd wanted classes to start. Well, Morgan had never met a Ravenclaw who didn't want that.

Initially Forgoil had been delaying the start of the class in hopes of more students showing up, but clearly he must've been day-dreaming because within minutes there were more students than he remembered being there. And by thunder what a racket they were all making, so Forgoil stood up from his chair and took charge. "Settle down class," said the professor as he attempted to appear serious but there was still that tell-tale glitter of excitement in the back of his eye, "I see ya've got a lot of energy taday; well that's good, because ya're goin' ta need it once I'm done with ya"
"Defense Against the Dark Arts might not be the most important of class nor may it be yer favorite subject, but it takes the theoretical into the practical and applies everything else that ya'll learn in yer other classes inta real-life situations," continued the grey-haired man as he walked around to the front of his desk. "Fer the veterans of last year, this'll be somewhat o' a recap because we've got a lotta new blood this year but it doesn't hurt ta review: especially when it can save yer life."
"So today I'm gonna ta gauge yer general knowledge of the subject with a few questions, several demonstrations, and lastly a little exercise from last year." Reaching down to one of the little figures on the desk, Forgoil brought it into everyone's view and tapped its side with his wand. With a gut wrenching shout, the little statue transformed into a life-sized creature with pointed ears, pallid skin and abnormal incisors. The statue glared at everyone around it and tried moving forward to attack, but still being just a statue it was anchored in place.
"Nosferatu," began Professor Halifirien as he stood alongside the replica of the fierce-some predator, "is an indigenous resident ta this part of Spain and a relative ta the vampire. It's uncertain which sub-species evolved first, but the Nosferatu is greatly different from the romanticized idea of the vampire. So ta begin the first series of questions, what makes a Nosferatu different than an ordinary vampire? What would be the most practical way ta fight one if ya had no other choice? And lastly, if one of yer own friends was recently bitten by one of these creatures and succumbin' ta its curse, is there a method ta reverse the transformation?"

Lucius was late, something he didn't like being... He had over-slept, missed breakfast and misplaced his wand... Again. Having hurriedly dressed, he found his wand in his shoe, right before he had pulled the darned thing on. Pausing only long enough to grab his now demon-bound dagger and his bag of school books, the former demonhost legged it towards the class.
"Move out of the way!"
Running into the automata when they didn't move, Lucius found himself suddenly floored by the immovable objects. Placing his hands on the swords, he tried to bend them away without success... When a thought occurred to him... Taking a step back, he did what all those who had come before him had done...
"Lucius Dante Infernus, Second Year, Gryffindor."
Watching as the statues moved aside, he entered. Cathing the teacher's questions, Lucius decided ot answer quickly before taking his seat.
"First of all, I'm sorry for being late professor, secondly I can answer two of those questions. I don't know the answer to the first, but the answer for the second is "silver"... Maybe Holy water, or a wooden stake, but I'm not sure. The answer to the third is no. There is no cure for vampirism other than death. The curse can not be undone expect by that way."
Taking a seat the other side of Morgan as soon as he finished speaking, Lucius placed his bag on the floor and focused his attention entirely on Forgoil... With the exception of a whispered "Good morning" to his girlfriend of course...

Slowly more students started to arrive and Felix was too interested in the room and his imagination to make any new friends. He know all about all of them, yet he guessed they only knew him as the odd smart kid that somehow managed to become Head Boy. Chika, an eccentric Japanese Hufflepuff girl that Felix had interacted with on a few occasions; apparently she knew the Slytherin Phug’s who Felix had encountered recently multiple times. The kid had the recklessness of a Gryffindor, once setting the Greenhouse on fire and then trying to attack a shade, still he friendly waved to Felix, who nodded back with a smile.
Next was a new Hufflepuff girl that Felix didn’t know, but guessed she was Miss Gillespie, it was nice to have access to all the roasters. Ryo, a friendly Slytherin boy, gave Felix an odd look and sat down next to Phug’s. Felix didn’t blame him. Last was Morgan Pendragon. Felix had never gotten to thank her for healing him in the crypt, deciding to wait till later, Felix sat back and started to daydream about the statues in the room. Today should be interesting.
Not much later, Forgoil stood up and with his booming warm voice he attempted to maintain order. Felix was already silently watching in the corner so he simply stayed still. The excitement was simply radiating off the professor… he loved his job. Felix planned on talking to the Professor after the class was done and he was silently anxious to do so. After a brief introduction the Scotsman took out his wand and tapped one of the figured Felix had identified as a Nosferatu. Perfect. It was serious exactly what Felix was going to ask about. Growing to its full height, the creature looked like it was glaring at the students. This Nosferatu, as grotesque and repulsive as it might be, was nothing compared to the abhorrent creature that had attacked them the other night on the tower, yet still, the representation was quite impressive. It actually moved, something that lit a spark in Felix. They would be able to fight this thing. Awesome.
At the question, without hesitation, Felix shot his head up and replied. He was not a show off, if he didn’t someone else would. Felix had gotten over his ‘I think know everything’ phase of answering questions. Now he really did know everything, yet he tried to keep it to himself.
“Nosferatu differ from Vampires by their appearance, strength, speed and stamina. Basically they are super vampires at the cost of good looks…” Hesitating before answering a second question, the fifteen-year-old cut his speech short. This was Forgoil’s class, not his. Let the other students have a chance. Was is pride if it was true?

The classroom was bustling before long, though Sam supposed it was a good thing that his antics didn't stand out for any more than a moment. The Slytherins seemed a cold, distant bunch, though they seemed to be chatting it up with one of the few Hufflepuffs he'd seen. Sam was met by the familiar face of his house prefect, Morgan Pendragon. He nodded and began greeting her back when Professor Halifirien at last made his presentation to the class in his dense Scottish accent. A corner of Sam's mouth curled upward, not quite a smile or a smirk as he then gave the teacher his undivided attention. Morgan was right, the young man was definitely ready to learn. Another boy close to his age burst in, answering those questions for Sam, for the most part.
The Head Boy seemed to condense his answers in a much plainer, clarified light. Sam was actually a tad puzzled by the Professor's description of these night creatures. If anything, the vampires oft portrayed as beautiful humans are more the demi-species then the unsightly nosferatu. Nosferatu, though bipeds like humans, retain many more of the characteristics of the creature they were born from, which of course was the bat. It of course explains the reason for their all-around boosted abilities in comparison to vampires whom can masquerade as a human. In short, Vampires were the sub species of Nosferatu. There was little point in adding to what was already said, except for the newcomer's comment. He raised his hand andstood up to speak, leaning his hands on his table.
"Well, I have heard mixed speculation about it, and I've yet to see it applied, but the more promptly an infected person is treated, the more likely they are to be saved from the curse. If the sire vampire is eliminated, then the curse can be lifted. There's been mixed opinions about this theory though, since you may have to go through a long string of vampires whom share the same original sire before results from this theory become clear. Of course, there's also the chance of synthesizing a potion to reverse the effects, if its made before the curse sets in too deeply. In other words, to lift the curse, time is of the essence. Am I wrong, Professor?"

Phugsius caught Chika and put her back in her chair. "Shhh, class is about to start" It's a good thing class had started so abruptly or else Chika would have been very unhappy to find out what happened when he was tickled. Phugs didn't like being tickled in public.
The professor started his speech and brought out his fearsome toy. It was a nosferatu. Phugsius hadn't actually encountered one in the flesh he'd just heard talk of them from lower vampires.
"What would be the most practical way ta fight one if ya had no other choice? And lastly, if one of yer own friends was recently bitten by one of these creatures and succumbin' ta its curse, is there a method ta reverse the transformation?"
Phugsius raised his hand. He decided to answer the last two questions since the first was already answered twice.
"If I had to fight a vampire a simple incendio might do the trick, but with their added speed it might be more sufficient to stop their movement first with a restraining spell. You could alternately stake its heart and decapitate it."
Phugsius figured this answer would suffice for the first question of the two. He hoped he didn't sound too much liek he had done it before.
"Then to cure a friend who has been stricken.... There's always death, as a last resort of course"

Felix knew he shouldn’t interject, but he had to. He wanted to know! He honestly thought that it was impossible for a vampire to become human again, unless right after they got bitten someone extracted the ‘plague’ from their blood, which was sort of do-able. He was now highly interested in what Forgoil was about to teach. The Ravenclaw student, who Felix couldn’t recall the name of, made a good point though. Felix realized after fact he should have stopped himself, but it was too late.
“Well, if the theory is true that the Nosferatu are a direct line coming from Vlad Dracula, then if it were true that if you eliminated the sire you life the curse, then it would mean that Dracula is still alive today. I’m pretty sure Nosferatu are still around.”
Phug’s gave an answer about how to kill Nosferatu, which if Felix really wanted to challenge with the fact that a Nosferatu could practically fly and could dodge spells as easily if someone threw a carrot at them, yet he waited to see what Forgoil said. Felix could hardly imagine anyone being able to get close enough with the speed of a bullet in order to decapitate and/or stake the monsters. Speaking of bullets… Felix recalled what he had heard about James Mustangs weaponry he carried with him including magically modified guns. Perhaps the Auror, now Mayor, had found a way to kill the creatures with some sort of silver gun mechanism, unless of course Forgoil was about to tell them.

Forgoil beamed to himself as his students bombarded him with a steady flow of answers to his three questions. Every little bit of input helped to put together the puzzle he wanted the students to solve, but there were always diamonds buried in the rough. "Excellent class!" exclaimed Forgoil in a booming voice as he rubbed his hands together in anticipation. "As Mr. Genero so aptly put it, Nosferatu differ from vampires on the physical level. Notice how they are more bat-like than their cousins and how defined this creature's musculature is in comparison. This creature isn't designed ta be subtle: it is designed ta move quickly, catch its prey and essentially overpower it."
"Now as for defeatin' a Nosferatu, all the ideas that have been put forward work in theory. It is a known fact that they have suceptable ta fire, and slowing them down first only helps," continued Forgoil as he acknowledged Phugius' comment, "Silver, holy water, sanctifed religious symbols: all of these are said ta deter Nosferatu as well, but most o' these are just rumors. Stake ta the heart and decapitating the head: these are proven ways ta kill a Nosferatu."
"And lastly," said Forgoil as he leaned his elbow against the statue's shoulder, "the idea o' curing someone that was recently turned. Death is the easiest course o' action, savin' their soul from eternal damnation, but the other ideas that were put forward all come from a common source." Clapping his hands together, a chalkboard levitated next to the professor from behind his desk and he wrote Abraham van Helsing in white chalk. "Dr. van Helsing is just a fictional character ta most humans, but it has never been confirmed how much of the novel was fiction and fact. Abraham van Helsing tried reversin' the curse in a patient by givin' her constant blood transfusions ta try and replenish her normal blood. He theorized that the vampiric curse was merely a strain of bacteria in their blood that infected their victims, but regretfully it hasn't been tested yet. And killing the original sire was also suggested, and it seemingly succeeded as Mina Harker became human once again after Dracula was destroyed."
"But since their are still nosferatu, if we are to believe this course of action is true, then the original Dracula wasn't destroyed but that this method may work on the victim's direct sire, not the being that sired all o' them. Then again these are just theories, but I personally would love ta see the results if someone ever tried ta test them. Now, does this cover Nosferatu fer ya class or do ya have more questions before we go onta the next specimen?"
Post by Phugsius Charadus on Jul 15, 2009 17:14:40 GMT -5
Phugsius raised his hand, " Professor is there a way to detect vampires? Perhaps if one were in this class room right now, would there be a charm we could use, some sort of potion?"

Forgoil, like the professional teacher he was, successfully including all the students answers into his response while still informing the students of things they did not know already as well as keeping his reputation as the reigning authority on the subject in the opinion of the students. It was truly genius. If Felix ever made it past graduation he would high seriously consider the option of actually not diving into the dangerous world and just sticking around and teaching; that is, of course, if Talon let him.
The first question was pretty strait forward, Felix’s answer sufficed. The second was still clear yet was slightly more… questionable. Simply dismissing the means of how to kill the thing was just giving theories, if any of them actually faced the thing, they would only have enough time to try one ‘theory’ before either becoming a Nosferatu or becoming ones lunch. There was still a contradiction about killing the thing, right after telling them that this thing could run laps around superman, he told them to drive a stake through their hearts and/or decapitate them. Seemed a slight dilemma.
Moving on to the final issue, Forgoil actually rested his elbow on the monster, totally oblivious to the animated statue. He serious was not fazed at all by the Nosferatu. The Scotsman clapped his hands and the word ‘Abraham van Helsing’ was scribbled on the chalkboard. Felix had read the novel many time in light of his recent interest and had found many flaws, yet Forgoil seemed to keep the position that nothing was certain about killing the things and only one could theorize. Felix was anxious to learn about the other creatures and the other students had some good questions already, so Felix decided to shut up for now and ask questions later.

"Foolish... Were a vampire or another undead nightstalker here in the room, chances are it would have combusted from the amount of sunlight in here, dark as the room may be."
Looking sideways towards Phugius, Lucius was amazed that the slytherin student could ask such a stupid question... It was broad daylight, a time when any night-walker worth their salt would be fast asleep... Any fool could tell someone that sunlight was a vampire's main weakness and be right, but to ask if they were in the room with them during the day?
"Skin as pale as a corpse is the biggest clue to a vampire. Best method of detecting one you can find in most situations..."
Of course, Lucius had read some of his textbooks before coming to class, primarily ones around defence against the dark arts, but that was because it was in his keen interest to know that subject intensely.

Ryo raised his hand, "Umm professor, I heard that silver is a poison to vampires. Are there any spells to shoot out silver? Could we use silver bullets in magically enhanced guns... or metal wands as the wizard world calls them?"
Silver, now there was a thought. The boy made a mental note to grill Felix on a brief idea of what he saw in the hospital wing.
