Navara came down to the feasting hall and looked for Ashelle. He promised he'd meet her here when he got back from Drakborough. Actually, when he got back, he stowed the things he'd gone to the town for in his trunk, taken a shower, changed, then come downstairs. He was sure Ashelle wouldn't mind, especially since it'd only taken him about twenty minutes to do all of that, and he'd been rushing.
Now he was dressed in a pair of loose-fitting black trousers, and a blue t-shirt worn under an open blue and black checked short-sleeved button down. His white hair had been combed and tamed into a much neater ponytail than he usually wore. His pointed ears boasted silver piercings, two on his right, three on his left. His sunshades were still in place to hide his yellow eyes. He felt very uncomfortable, and very nervous. He hadn't dressed up for a girl in ages, not since he was twelve and had fallen for that drow girl....

When Ashlee had gotten back to the Firefox, she'd immediately proceeded to her Dorm room to put her newest purchases away in her wardrobe. However, once she'd gotten everything away she remembered her eminent meeting with Navara in the Great Hall for dinner. She also recalled how much he'd admired her new clothes. Sighing and hoping there wasn't anything requiring gravy for dinner she quickly changed into one of her new outfits and bushed her long curly red hair. The outfit she chose consisted of the Dark jeans she'd first looked at and a Native American Red Ribbon shirt. For some reason, she wasn't sure why, she really liked the Native American style, something about the buckskin and fringe spoke to her, thought the red shirt wasn't buckskin it was still very nice.
Once she was done primping, she went down to the front lawns to call Raiku, her Alaskan Malamute. As Ashelle expected it took a little bit to find her, and by the time Raiku was bounding over to her in answer to her calls it was time for dinner. Ashlee lead Raiku into the Great Hall and sat down at the Gryffindor table she waited for a while, then realized, perhaps Navara was still shopping, and might arrive late. To pass the time she decided to de-bone half a chicken that was to be Raiku's dinner. Using a sizable soup bowl, she poured about a cup of baked salt-less crisps into it. Then she used her wand to split the chicken nearest her in two -from neck to rear. Putting it on her plate she began taking the meat off the bone for her four legged companions dinner, Raiku watching patiently the whole time.
It was now clear just how much Navara had shaken Ashlee's usually rock solid nerves. The chicken slipped all over he plate, while she tried to strip it of it's meat, and pieces that were meant for the bowl almost flew out of her hands. Some she was able to rescue, but some landed on the floor and were quickly gobbled up by Raiku who was rather surprised by this. She'd never seen her mistress so shaken that she was unable to prepare her dinner without spilling before. Then again Raiku was a young Dog and hadn't been around for many of the outrages and dangerous adventures Ashelle had been made to endure. At last the half a carcass was devoid of meat and the soup bowl was full. Ashelle mixed the meat with the crisps and was setting the bowl on the ground, just as Navara walked into the Great Hall.
Navara spotted Ashelle's mane of red curls almost immediately. She seemed to be feeding a dog. Navara approached and knelt beside her, petting the dog and not saying anything. The truth was, he really didn't know what to say. He looked at ashelle and smiled, his teeth looking even whiter against the background of his unusual skin.
"What's her name?" he asked as a sort of greeting, "She's cute, but then, so is her owner." He managed to say that last bit without blushing, which ought to prove a point of some sort. He checked his shades out of habit. He silently prayed to Lolth that he wouldn't do something embarassing.

"Er," said Ashelle. "er . . .er-uhm . . . uhm" The compliment had clearly taken Ashelle by surprise. It wasn't really the words so much as where they came from. They seem to be coming from a boy who -liked- HER. It was hard going from getting absolutely no stares to being face to face with a young man with working lips, let alone ones that had kissed her own cheek. "Malamute's-my-name-is-Raiku." FRIGG!! She put her face in her hands in embarrassment. She preyed to Erin that the mean Slytherin Chris Stran wasn't there yet.
Raiku didn't seem to gather that this boy was the reason her Mistress was so nervous. She wagged her tail as she ate her food and planned on licking blue-boys face once she was done eating.
Ashelle gathered herself for one more try at the usually simple chore of speaking. "Uhm- . . . Would you like - I m-mean, Please, won't you have a seat? The stones are hard and kind of cold - I mean, don't you think? On your leg I mean! Oh for Goddess sake!" She looked up ward and rolled her eyes at herself. " I am gonna be quiet now." At least that came out right, she thought dejectedly.
Navara laughed in a good natured way. "No need to get flustered on my account." He stood, and leaned to whisper in her ear. "Just remember Ashelle, you don't have to impress me. I already like you." He contemplated fingering her gorgeous hair, but decided not to. Instead, he straightened up and smiled at her. "Have you eaten yet?"

"Uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-" wavered Ashelle in answer to Nav's statement delivered so incredibly close to her. However when he backed up a bit and asked his next question Ashelle was able to offer a better answer.
"Actually I haven't, yet. I was hoping we might -er- if you don't have anything else to do I mean- if we could eat together." Ashelle was really wondering what in the bloody hell had gotten into her. When she was younger she'd always imagined being fawned over by countless young men, all pureblooded wizards, vying for her hand and attentions.
Real love certainly is quite different, isn't it? said her inner voice, Ah I love Love!
"Why, I'd love to dine with you, Ashelle," Navara said as he bowed slightly. Sitting on the long bench as gracefully as he could manage. He spread the napkin on his lap as his aunt had instructed him.
"Always spread it neatly on your lap Navara; never tuck it in your collar! Present yourself like the gentleman I know you are." Even though his aunt was now hundreds of miles away, her voice still rang in his head like she was standing behind him
He knew he looked odd-a Ravenclaw sitting at the Gryffie table-but somehow, it didn't bother him. The only people he was aware of were himself and Ashelle. "So Ashelle, tell me a little about yourself. What are your interests? What do you hope to do when you graduate?"
Post by Professor O'Conner on Oct 26, 2006 22:50:59 GMT -5
Ashelle froze . . . did she have any interests? Her goals . . . they seemed sort of embarrassing suddenly. "I like . . . Quidditch . . ." Seemed a safe enough answer even thought she was only a reserve for the Gryffindor team. At that moment Raiku finished her dinner and ran forward and sat beside Ashelle brushing her hand to be petted. "- and Animals! I like Animals too." Ashelle didn't really want to tell him about her plan to be great because she suddenly realized she had no idea how she would become great.
"I - I . . .I'd like to be famous for doing great things someday - but I am not sure what I should do." Ashelle tried to fill her plate with food, but the moment she reached for some chicken or potatoes her stomach seemed to ball up and she wasn't hungry. This was very bizarre. "Navara, I was wondering . . . what do you like?" Oh my goddess, what a general and boring question. Can you possibly be more dull? He'll never like you if you keep up with things like that! the inner voice chided her.
"I love quidditch! My uncle is a broomaker. When I graduate I'll probably end up working for him. He sends me brooms to test, and in the summers I stay with him and help him at his shop. The only thing is, I'm starting to like it here. Maybe I'll set up my own shop in Drakborough.
"Oh, and as for you being great, you'll accomplish that no matter what you decide to do. I can see greatness in you Ashelle, and greatness like that'll show up sooner or later. Until then, you have plenty of time to decide exactly what you'll be great at." He took a few bites of food as he contemplated his answer to her question. He was trying to decide exactly how bold he was feeling, and whether being bold might not scare her off. He decided to go for it, whatever happened would happen.
"What do I like? Well, besides anything related to flying, brooms, and quidditch, I like books, musics, camping and redheads. Does that suffice to answer your question?" He smiled broadly, and hoped he didn't look like too much of an idiot.

Ashelle's eyes widened dramatically. Did he say redheads?! she thought to herself blushing profusely. Oh my . . . Ashelle didn't know what to say. Ashelle didn't know what to do. So she sat there and blushed and felt her stomach ball up and loosen over and over. This was so odd, Ashelle could usually talk to anyone why couldn't she talk to the handsome seventeen year old Navara? Abruptly she realized she must answer him, for his statement had a questions on the end of it.
"Yes it does, thank you." she murmured, then she wondered if her thank you was well placed. Maybe she shouldn't have said it quite like that? Suddenly she shook herself. Why was she getting so upset? It wasn't like she could have a relationship with Navara! HE was legal age and she most certainly wasn't! The knot in her stomach finally relaxed and she took a deep breath to calm her nerves.
"Thanks for saying you think I will be great," she said graciously and finally back in control of her fluctuating emotions. "No one has even said that to me before, I really appreciate it," She smiled at him warmly. It was odd now that she knew he was too old for her it was like a vice had been loosened on their interactions. Maybe it was because she knew where she stood now, whereas before, she'd thought and felt there there might have been something else going on -something she had no control over or experience with - Love.
Navara watched Ashelle closely for signs of how she was reacting to his boldness. At first she seemed nervous and he could have swalloed his tongue, but in a while she seemed to relax. He took it as a good sign, like maybe she was starting to warm up to him. He edged a little closer to her.
"So, then, now that we're friends I want to know all about you. Your favorite colors, your family, everything. However, I know that fair is fair, so I'm willing to answer anyquestion you have about me one hundred percent honestly. So, tell me about Ashelle Rainier."
Post by Professor O'Conner on Nov 25, 2006 21:05:46 GMT -5
"Erm," said Ashelle, she'd never had a friend who was so interested in her before. "Well, my Family is dead and my favorite colors are Red Gold and Green. As for everything, I am not sure what you mean, it would be rude for me to just talk on and on about myself." Ashelle thought about what else she might say about the dead Radiant and most Venerable Rainier Clan.
"I am sure you have heard of the Rainiers and might indeed know more about them than I do. I have read some copies of some letters left behind from them and it seems they thought they were being slowly killed off by a eighty year old curse uttered by the lips of You-Know-Who himself. I have done some research and have found this 'You-Know-Who' was a Dark Wizard by the name of Voldemort." She flung the name around lightly as if she had no idea of the terror it had cause eighty years ago.
"Apparently my mother was able to save me from it by giving me the joint name of Hunter-Rainier. I use Rainier because it is easier and I am not afraid of some old wizards curse . . . I mean Really, if he is not around to work it's magic a curse will die with the originator, like all magic." She looked at Navara to see if any of this registered with him or if he had even heard of Voldemort at all.
Navara was slightly shocked with the turn of conversation. He'd heard of Voldemort, of course, but mostly in passing. Much of his early education was in the Drow culture because with drow, the men raised the male children and the women raised the female ones. Naturally, when he was born, his father took him away. However, there are few drow despise more than half-drow, and soon it was clear that Navara was a hafling. He was nine, but already he was much more advanced than any other child his age in the tribe.
That's when he found himself living with his mother's brother and his wife. Navara's father left him there to appease the members of the tribe. His uncle was nice enough, and in fact treated Nav as his own son, but Nav's aunt was quite strict at first, and kept her distance. He'd never met his mother, she'd died shortly after he was born, he'd been told.
"It's a shame, about your family. I apologize, I didn't know. I know a little how that must feel. My own mother passed while I was a baby, and my father can't take care of me. I live with my aunt and uncle, they're pretty much all the family I have.
"As for the business with this wizard and his curse, I'm not sure I could throw his name around so blithely if he'd murdered my family. And if he studied Drow magic, which is a possibilty, he could have tied the curse to your family or even nature itself to make it work after he died.
"Ashelle, I really can't talk about this anymore. Would you and Raiku like to take a walk with me?"
OOC: I know I haven't posted in a while, sorry. Momo's going crazy planning her wedding...

OOC: Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!? Momo is getting MARRIED!!!! I thought he was just a boyfriend?! How long have they been together?! I don't think this is very wise . . . Please get on so we can talk about it, ok? Purtty please?
IC: "I never said I believed it was the curse that killed them." replied Ashelle cordially. "Even if He did tie it to my family, my mother would have survived it, because she never changed her last name. I think it must have been something else, a case of severe luck or perhaps, something in the castle that made them sick - I had it cleaned top to bottom before I moved in." Navara suddenly voiced his discomfort with the subject matter, and asked if they could go for a walk.
"Erm, well," said Ashelle, "it's kind of dinner time . . ." she looked at all the delicious foods then she looked at Navara's soft eyes. "Well I suppose I could always nick something from the kitchens later . . . " She got up to go with him. Raiku wagged her tail and eagerly stood to follow. Another walk? So soon after dinner? Yes! Tonight was her night! Ashelle looked at Navara and smiled softly. "So where should we walk? I hope we can be back by Curfew or we'll be in trouble."
Nav flashed her a brilliantly white smile. "You're only in trouble if you get caught and curfew is far from now. Come on, where's your sense of adventure?" He looked at her over the top of his shades, his eyes filed with mock-pleading. "Please, Ashelle, oh please walk with me."
He removed the napkin from his lap, tossing it carelessly atop his barely toutched dinner. He stood and extended his hand to Ashelle. He was determined to be the gentleman his aunt had raised him to be. "Let's just get outside, I need the air."
