((ooc: so sorry that this comes up in the middle of the month, life has been hectic, won't happen again))
First through Third Years
Gremlins:
Elvish creature with reptilian features. Most notable for its eerily long fingers. It has a maliciously mischievious nature. They absolutely love complex constructions, in the past focusing on complicated magical constructs such as defensive wards. They live to take these things apart out of pure pleasure. With the advent of Muggle machinery they tend to gravitate towards airplanes, relishing in disrupting those systems. If they cause an accident, all the better for them. If you discover a gremlin performing its deconstructions, it is best to catch them by surprise as a straight on fight with one can often prove difficult due to its abilities.
Assignment
First Years:
I will have a gremlin on display in the classroom for the month (anti-theft measures have been taken, so don't even think about it). Sketch the creature and label the drawing based on the section on Gremlins in Fighting the Dark Arts (pp. 356-359) Turn it in before the next class.
Second and Third Years:
Read pages 356-359 of Fighting the Dark Arts and write a paper describing a way in which to safely subdue and capture a gremlin, including long-term captivity.
Fourth through Seventh Years
Now that we've covered a bit of the basics of defense, we're going get a little more advanced This lesson will be concerned with the introduction of a few useful offensive and strategic spells for use in combat situations.
FOR MAXIMUM SAFETY THESE SPELLS SHOULD BE PRACTICED ON THE DUELING FIELD, PREFERABLY UNDER SUPERVISION.
Fourth Years
Stunning Spell
Incantation: Stupefy
Counter-spell: Ennervate
This spell renders its victim unconscious, making it useful as a non-lethal method of subjugation. The unconscious person or creature can be revived using the counter-spell Ennervate.
Instructor's note: Practice this with friends you trust and be sure to bring something soft to land on. Next class you will be asked to perform a stun and revive.
Fifth Years
Sunlight Spell
Incantation: Solis Fulsi (emphasis on the ful)
Creates a flash of artificial sunlight, useful in blinding opponents and repelling certain Dark creatures.
Instructors Note: This spell WILL NOT kill a vampire or Inferius. Only true sunlight can kill a vampire. It's only enough to repel and disorient it. DO NOT SEEK A VAMPIRE FOR COMBAT. IF IT DOESN'T KILL YOU I WILL. You'll be expected to be able to perform this spell next class. DO NOT PRACTICE ON OTHER STUDENTS.
Sixth and Seventh Years
Force Spell
Incantation: Forzare
A simple yet advanced bit of magic. At its core it is a blast of force, enough to knock an adult human off their feet and backwards at least a dozen yards. Though with intense practice it becomes a versatile weapon and tool. It can be adjusted for pinpoint accuracy, for variable forces, even for direction.
Assignment: The force spell leaves a telltale spiral pattern in softer materials. I want you to practice with this spell and work on your concentration. I want you to be able to leave the spiral pattern on a piece of parchment, preferably without tearing it up and turn it into me by next class.
