Channah led the way down to the Feasting Hall, walking with her new friend through the halls of their school. It was nice. She couldn't remember ever eating dinner with someone besides groups of her housemates before, and this time it would be (kind of) 1 on 1. She was nervous even if it was just dinner... It's not like it was a date, or anything, it was just them eating food together and it was nothing else nothing deeper or anything and just
Dang it all to heck. It was just dinner. She needed to calm the crap down.
Somehow, she'd managed to not clichely grab Adrian's hand on their way downstairs. She just needed to keep it up, keep herself from embarassing herself. A lot of thoughts were going through her mind, but she needed to try and focus on dinner.
She met a dilemma at the doors to the Feasting Hall.
"Okay," Channah said, wondering if this was some sort of test. Maybe Adrian wanted to see if Channah had popular friends, or, or, or something. She didn't, not really, but... Well, she was just overthinling things, obviously Adrian didn't care about stuff like that.
She hoped.
Adrian held the door open for her. What a gentle...woman? Gentlelady? How did that work in a feminine form without sounding misogynistic?
"Thank you!" Channah said, graciously walked through the doorway and headed for the Gryffindor table. There were a few people around, eating and socializing and junk. They reached the area of the Gryffindor table that she usually sat, and Channah happily plopped into a chair. "Have a seat!" Channah offered. Should she have like, pulled a seat out for her or something? Oh, no! Channah didn't want to be rude.

Adrian took a seat next to Channah and smiled. Was this allowed? Sitting at another house's table? No one probably cared anyway. The hufflepuff sure didn't.
The only thing the brunette was scared of was her own eating habits. She ate a lot, but had a high metabolism and still stayed thin. She grabbed a roll from the middle and began eating that.
She took some casual glances over at her Channah as she ate. This was fun. She'd never really had many friends before due to her lack of talking, but somehow, she could talk to her new friend without a problem.
Once Adrian started eating, Channah was a little more at ease. Sure, she still felt a little awkward, but everything was better when you ate. Probably. Anyway, Channah reached and grabbed a roll for herself as well, before thinking twice and grabbing a slice of ham as well. A sandwich sounded nice. It felt too hot for anything much warmer, even if Channah was generally a fan of soups and hot food.
"So, Adrian," Channah started, finding courage where there had been none before. "When you say Chicken is your favorite, what kind of chicken do you like to eat?" Man, was talking about food while you ate rude? She had no idea.

Adrian smiled at Channah making a sandwich. It was a good idea. Too bad she didn't think of it.
What kind of chicken do you like to eat?
The hufflepuff blinked for a second and stopped eating. There were different kinds of chicken? She turned to Channah, "All of them, I guess. I really didn't know there was more than one kind of chicken." She gave a little chuckle and continued eating her roll.
That stuff was tasty.
She grabbed another when that was roll was done ate it, then ate a few slices of ham. The brunette gave a small glance at her blond friend.
Was she eating too much? Was it weird? Self consciousness much?
"I eat a lot," Adrian said a little too bluntly. It really was a stupid comment on her part. Channah could obviously see that. She blushed and turned back to her plate with a small laugh.
"Chicken, you know, um.." Dang it. Channah had lost her train of thought in her embarassment. Maybe she was the crazy one for thinking so much about that comment. She felt her face warm again and looked back to her sandwich. When Adrian spoke again, saying she ate a lot, Channah looked back up.
"Oh." Channah said, trying to think of what to say. "Is that bad?" She asked, looking at her sandwich, then the food on the table, then at Adrian's food, then at Adrian again. By what Adrian had eaten so far, Channah ate a lot, too, then. She wasn't even full and she was almost done with a sandwich. That wasn't normal?

Adrian smiled at her.
"No, it's not bad," she replied and then looked down at the food she ate. Perhaps she spoke too soon. She really should have said that later, but you can not change the past.
She continued with the shoving of food down her pie hole. Food was an amazing thing, and did not see how someone stopped eating. A ton more rolls later and plenty of meat, Adrian looked up at Channah.
The hufflepuff did not know what to say, so she thought and thought and thought before coming to the stupid conclusion of saying, "Food is good."
"Oh, okay." Channah said, looking at her sandwich again. She never really thought about eating before, at least not this in depth. She looked down at her stomach, reaching down and pinching at her stomach, trying to be discreet about it. When Adrian spoke again, though, Channah looked up, her expression a little brighter. "Yeah, it is!" Channah liked to eat. Didn't everyone like to eat? Apparently, Adrian had a love/hate relationship with eating, as far as she could tell. It was sad, but Channah would help her get through it. How did you help someone through a relationship? Have them talk? She'd already kinda tried that, but maybe she should try harder.
"How long have you been eating?"
Wait, what? Channah fought the urge to slap herself.

"How long have you been eating?"
Adrian swallowed the food she had just shoved in her mouth before turning her head to look at Channah. She was slightly confused as to what the hell was going on, but she smiled.
"All my life," she replied, snickering back her laughter. And then it escaped. It lasted only a few seconds before it died down.
"You're funny," Adrian said with a smile on her face. She didn't bother with a return question because she figured it would be the same answer.
"Ya' know, when I was little, I hated to eat. I had better stuff to do then eat. It was probably because of my parent's terrible cooking. Then, I found good food and now I like eating."
Channah probably didn't want to know Adrian's life story about food, but Adrian told her anyway. It was something to talk about. But that story reminded her of the letter her dad felt like sending her. Oh well. Good times were times worth remembering.
At first it seemed like a disaster. Adrian had started laughing at her! Oh, no! She really was the worst. Her self-esteem took a hit, but it was consoled slightly by Adrian's compliment... Well, at least, she hoped it was meant as a compliment. Funny? Funny looking? Funny tasting?
She didn't want to think of that last one.
Anyway, she nodded along as Adrian told her story. Other people may not have found it interesting, but she did. She liked to hear other people's stories and junk.
"Good food is good." Channah said, in agreement. Were her own parents good at cooking? She couldn't remember. She supposed that meant they weren't... Well, rather, there was a difference between being a good cook and an excellent cook. She didn't remember any bad meals, either, so she supposed her parents were pretty average. Just like her.
"Cooking can be fun, but I think I like eating better."

"I agree. Cooking takes too long. Too much standing, too much accidentally cutting yourself," Adrian said. She had a run in with the kitchen once upon a time. And ever since that day, she refused to go back into the kitchen.
"Have you ever cooked?" the hufflepuff asked as she reached for more food. One thing she loved about this school was that they just thought of food, and food came. Anything they wanted would come.
"Hmm..." Channah said, suddenly deep in thought. Technically, of course, she had cooked before. The only thing was, did it count as cooking? She could fry an egg, that was easy, and she could make a pretty decent ham sandwich. But none of that seemed technical enough to count as any sort of cooking. She decided to just be honest.
"I've never cooked anything, like, complicated." Channah admitted, "I've never cut myself, but I can make, like, sandwiches." Making sandwiches was kind of like, a life skill.

Adrian smiled at her. Everyone needed to know how to make sandwiches, unless they were allergic to it or something.
The hufflepuff thought of her mother. She felt like sharing her story.
"When I was little, my mom would make the best chocolate chip cookies. I decided I was going to help one time and ended up burning myself on the oven. I refused to go into the kitchen for a while. Mom's lost her touch over the years, but they still taste alright."
She hadn't had her mother's cookies in six years. Maybe that was a good thing. She forced a smile on her face.
If Channah wasn't there, Adrian would be depressed and angry. Her parents getting a divorce wasn't her fault, it was her parent's and she understood that perfectly. Honestly, she only wished that they would have talked to her about it.
Her parents always had something better to do, thus Adrian hadn't gone home since she got Firefox University. Also, not her fault. But what could she do about any of it? Talking to Channah seemed to make everything better.

"Oh!" Channah said, when Adrian finished. "I love cookies." She loved sweet things in general, but rarely ate them. "Chocolate chip is great." She thought for a moment, before sharing her own story.
"I helped my mom bake once or twice, but I was little and I wasn't really paying attention. Mostly I wanted to eat the chocolate chips, I think." She smiled at the memory. "Also the batter for the cookie dough. That was good, too." It'd gotten her sick, but Adrian didn't need to know about that. Suddenly, she had an idea.
"We should try baking, sometime, Adrian! That would be fun to do together. The Muggle Studies class has some muggle ovens and supplies and junk."
