The Slytherin common room lay down in the dungeons. Natalie couldn't say she had been entirely thrilled when she first spotted the damp walls and dark that was the deep places of the castle. The Common Room itself was like something out of a fairy tale, perhaps the lair of a particularly snobbish villain. Twice a particularly loud and obnoxious portrait tried to wend her way to an abandoned classroom, but fortunately Natalie had spent a good deal of time in the dungeons and had been to the common room a few times (mostly to sleep). She had not, however, spent much time in it just to relax. Today, Natalie intended to do just that.
"What do you think you're doing?" Natalie's eyes were fixed on the ball python curled in her lap - or at least, had been curled. Now Caspar Gillium was attempting to wrap his way around her wrist, the markings on his head giving him a rather blithe appearance. Usually the snake was prone to just sleep all day, but since her arrival here at the University he tended to be much more active. Indeed, his behavior could even be described as droll as compared to his usual lazy attitude towards existence. Now Caspar bobbed his head and nosed against her hand, and then abruptly bit her.
Caspar Gillium had bit her! The little snot! Natalie jerked her hand away and scowled at him, giving him a sharp tap on the head with her pencil. The young witch didn't think he had ever done such a thing, even when she was being awful and had woken him up. "What's the matter with you?" Natalie mumbled, still glaring at the serpent. Being a snake, Caspar said nothing. Instead he nosed at her hand again, but when Natalie tried to seize him he hissed horribly.
"Stop that." Feinting one way, Natalie finally caught him by the back of his head and held him still. Maybe he had a bone stuck in his throat? When was the last time he had shed? A bit of anxiety plucked at her insides. What would she do if Caspar died? However, upon further examination of her hand, she realized he hadn't actually hurt her. She'd just been so startled by the action that it had hurt her to think about. Caspar had never bit her. Even now the python was wiggling, trying to escape her grasp. It finally struck Natalie what he was doing. He was playing.
