ooc: first post for Victoria please.
Gabriel woke at approximately three a.m. with a shadow clutching his throat, making it difficult to breathe. The face in the dark was bloated, tinged blue at the mouth, eyes glazed over with death. He knew the face well, had seen it hanging from the rafters of a house with a noose around the neck.
Now he was panicking. Why couldn't he get enough air? Gabriel drew a shuddering breath and scrambled from the bed, and the shadow vanished. It left behind, however, the sensation of rough, cold fingers around Gabriel's throat. After awhile that too faded, and Gabriel reached for the glass of water at his bedside.
It had been a good idea to room outside the castle, at least until he adjusted to the Wizarding world all over. Gabriel hadn't spent much time among large groups of people since he had left for home.
Desperate to escape the walls of the room, Gabriel bolted downstairs, making a little too much noise on the stairs but not caring. The landlady slept as if drugged, and not even Gabriel's slamming of the doors would wake her. Fortunately he was her only tenant.
The Ravenclaw was outside before the suffocating sensation had vanished, gulping in fresh, real air. Dammit, dammit, dammit. And he'd thought it was getting better. Of course it wasn't, it never got better, son of a bitch. A murmured stream of swears escaped him as he made an attempt to flatten his hair, just something to do with his hands.
He hated this.
At least he was wearing decent clothes. Gabriel had lain down earlier in an attempt to read but had dropped off instead. It was entirely likely the landlady had slipped something into his food - she was constantly concerned over the fact that Gabriel didn't seem to sleep. And he needed all the help he could get, apparently.
Gabriel scowled, shoes scuffing the sidewalk, hands now shoved into the pockets of his pants.
Dammit. Of course things had been too quiet. Even now as Gabriel looked around he spotted shadows, people he used to know and some of which were now dead. It was depressing, or at least it used to be. Gabriel had long since gotten used to their company, but that didn't stop the chills from raising goosebumps along his skin and making his heart jump into the back of throat.
