It was a nice, quiet day at Firefox University, and that was exactly how Amuro Hakumi liked it. Hakumi, or 'Haku' for short, liked it better when it was peaceful. She was happy with how things were, and more importantly, it was getting warm again. Like, summer warm.
She loved summer.
As she looked up at the warm sun shining down through the beautiful sky, she felt pangs of homesickness. It'd been a long time since she'd been home, and she wasn't going back this summer. It hurt, but she decided not to dwell on it too long. It would just make her sadder and sadder and well, that just wasn't any fun, you know?
She set the book she'd been trying to read to her side, placing it softly in the lush green gas near the edge of the lake. She missed the beach, the ocean. She loved water in general, though, and she supposed it wasn't too bad to have a giant lake on the grounds. At least the lake didn't have jellyfish in it. To be honest, though, she actually almost missed the jellyfish stings that came with playing around in water too much. It stung and burned, but it was a part of summer, too.
She hummed quietly. It was an old song, but still her favorite. Her spider crawled quietly on her shoulder, and she cocked her head to the side to swing her hair out of its way. She'd long since gotten used to her school assigned(!?) familiar always hanging out on her clothes, and to tell the truth, it didn't bug her as much as it used to. It was kind of cute, in a way, and besides, no one else had a spider familiar that she could see. Why, some people didn't even get familiars! They just gave her weird looks when she asked what theirs were, so she thought that maybe, maybe, it was something only special students got. It was kind of nice, being special.
The wind played with the water and it lapped on the edge of the ground near her. It was nice, and it reminded her of home.
She continued to hum, all honeys and ice. Summer was good.
