Everything was dark. That was strange. Aednat had thought it was just early evening. She blinked once, twice, three times, and lifted her hand to her mouth to stifle a yawn. Perhaps it wasn't really quite so dark. She was only waking up, after all, and her eyes were not yet accustomed to being open. She lifted one delicate hand to her dark brown curls and ran her fingers through them, yawning once more. Rolling from her curled-up position on her side, she stretched out so that she was lying on her back, looking up at the surface above her.
It wasn't too far above her at all, in fact. Sleepy blue eyes took in the grain of wood and the curtain of material that hung down at the end. Fingers and bare feet felt the soft carpet beneath her and she understood.
The devil makes work for idle thumbs, or so it is said. Well, perhaps he makes work for bored people too. Or, more likely, Aednat's mischievous nature had come to the fore earlier when, sick of homework and wanting to stir a little harmless trouble and cause a laugh or two, she'd looked a round, determined that there was absolutely definitely no one in the room, and ducked underneath the table. Her things lay abandoned on the table top, giving the impression that she'd just disappeared for a moment, perhaps to find a book she needed or go to the bathroom or get a snack. She'd planned to wait underneath and then surprise the next unsuspecting person who sat down to do work too. It would probably, she reflected, be someone she knew who had recognised her things and thought she'd be back. If it wasn't, no matter. A little joke never hurt anyone.
Unfortnately, "the best laid schemes o' mice an' men gang aft a-gley", or often go astray. And...well, Aednat's spontanious idea had hardly even been a very well-laid plan at all. She'd presumed that someone would turn up pretty soon and she'd be ready to jump out at them or something. She didn't plan to do anything complex, she just wanted a little joke to lighten the place up. As it had happened, after ten minutes of waiting she'd fallen fast asleep where she was, underneath a table in the Gryffindor common room.
She had to smile as she realised this. She really was a prize idiot.
Sitting up and hugging her knees, she almost laughed as she realised that she didn't really have to crouch in her sitting position underneath the table; with her small size, it was actually quite a comfortable fit. But never mind that- she just spotted something that had made her brilliant blue eyes gleam and her pink lips curl up in a bright smile. Just less than a foot to her right, a pair of feet were visible. A pair of feet belonging to an ususpecting owner...
All traces of sleepiness were erased from Aednat's face in record time. From where she was, she slowly and silently pulled her wand from where it was tucked into her belt. It wasn't a belt, actually, it was a ribbon, but that mattered not. She'd changed into her own clothes after classes. Biting her lip to force herself not to laugh or sing in amusement, she waited until she could hear the scratching of quill on parchment again before directing her wand at those poor, defenceless legs.
Rictusempra! She whispered in the tiniest voice imaginable, delighting in the good luck that had made her 'victim' cough as she uttered the spell. Pouncing forward on impluse, she tied the bootlaces together with quick, deft fingers as their owner howled uncontrollably above her.
The tickling charm. A favourite of hers.
Unable to keep from laughing herself, she knew there was no point in concealment. She shook her head, tossing her curls as she emerged from underneath the table on the other side and turned to face her fellow Gryffie, laughing cheekily.
