How can you see into my eyes like open doors
Leading you down into my core
Where I’ve become so numb without a soul my spirit sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there and lead it back home
Leading you down into my core
Where I’ve become so numb without a soul my spirit sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there and lead it back home
Dawn. The very point of dawn to where the sky was beautiful with red and gold and orange, heralding the beginning of the day. Very few rays of light flooded into the Dueling Hall, but the windows were veiled with shutters and shades, and lit by lamps instead. One lone figure entered, one in a giant hall of stone. She barely cast a shadow in the darkness, but as she walked she made the shades on the windows open, casting some light into the room. Her movements were graceful and swift as she made her way to the middle of the floor. The girl wanted to get practice in against a few she had recently acquired. During a duel with a student, Muryllis, she found herself crying in fear after being attacked by magic. She ended up yielding and begging him to stop. And anyone who knew Roan knew, that was not her, she never yielded. The girl was more used to physical attacks that caused great pain to her body rather then things that psyched her out in the mind.
Taking her wand out of a pocked of the robes she wore, the girl pointed the long piece of wood at a nearby wall, almost yelling the incantation she had in mind. “Virgo Imperio!” Also known as, the Volley Wall spell. It was time to face this fear and conquer it, or she wouldn’t be able to do anything if the time came she had to fight magic. She would break down. The earlier she stopped it, the easier it would be. That spell cast, she removed the outer robe she was wearing, betraying a black robe with no sleeves, light and cut closer to her body then normal school robes. Things she had designed herself for battle, leaving her arms free so that they could easily move. The purpose of this excersize was to cast spells at the wall with the charm, so that every time she did they came bouncing back at her. The other point was to use a Protego charm and stop it from hurting her, and hopefully she wouldn’t get too freaked out and it wouldn’t hit her. If it did, Roan had a problem, she brought no nurse. So she would then deal with any handicaps the magic gave her, like she would in magical combat if she let one through. This was going to be interesting.
Hazel eyes narrowed at the wall, and she raised her wand up. Her brown hair was down about her shoulders, sweeping down her back and pinned back off her face. The wand moved in one quick jerk, and a spell was cast, heading towards the wall. “Impedimentia!” The slowing spell, if she missed this one, it wouldn’t harm her too badly. The light of the spell hit the wall and headed back to her at a great speed. “Protego!” She shouted, just barely in time, taking a few steps back. She almost lost her balance, not expecting the spell to come at her that quickly. Never underestimate magic, a lesson Roan still had to learn. The spell bounced off her shield spell and hit a wall not affected by the Volley Wall charm. The girl felt her heart beat quicker in her chest and her breathing speed up. That spell had been rushing at her face, and it was a little frightening. But there was no time to think of that, she had to keep going. Another swish of her wand, and another spell came, not some small spell anymore, one of her best ones. This would hurt if it hit.
“Incendio!” Her usually wave of flame erupted from the wand, and headed straight for the wall. As soon as it hit, it came back. But it didn’t just come back, it grew in size. The girl gasped and threw off a shield spell. “Protego!” It was barely in time, the fire bounced away, but hit the wall again, doubling. The fire was a torrent now, and headed back towards the girl. She stumbled but managed to get the shield spell up again. This had not been a good idea in the least. “Protego!!!” Her voice was rushed, she could feel her pulse in her head and her stomach was in knots. This wasn’t good, she tried to deflect the fire to another part of the room where there wasn’t a Volley Wall spell, but instead it hit the wall again with the spell, growing once more in size. It was huge, and Roan feared fire. Her hazel eyes went wide and she took more steps back, struggling to bring the shield spell to mind. “Protego!” Her voice went high at the end into a scream. The shield spell went up, but the fire curled around the shield which formed in a circle around her front. Instead of bouncing off, this massive flame just pushed against it, stray flames licking at her bare arms and at her neck and legs. The cloth of her robes caught flame, but the ‘Puff wouldn’t put it out with water until it was gone. The fight raged for a few very long moments, until the fire finally lost speed and power and bounced off against a safe wall, dissipating.
The girl sank to her knees slowly, recovering from her battle with that magic. The fire had been so strong, and had shone clearly in her hazel eyes when she had tried to fight it off. Her skin on her arms was deeply burnt as were the backs of her legs and her neck. Red burns, nasty and painful. But that wasn’t what bothered Roan, she could deal with physical pain like a burn, it always went away. Her entire body shook from the ordeal of facing magic. She wasn’t ready for this, she couldn’t fight magic. A fire spell had been too much for her to handle, maybe she should start smaller. Her heart was racing in her chest to the point she couldn’t count the beats, sweat dripped from her forehead, damping her hair, and her breathing came out quick and sharp like she had just run a mile and sprinted the entire thing. This wasn’t it. She had fired two spells, that was it, her training wasn’t done, no matter how much pain she was in mentally and physically. Would your opponent stop because you were injured, no! So get up and try again Roan! Her mind told her and she gave a grumble and stood up on shaky limbs, small traces of blood running down where the burns had been the worst. But her hazel eyes were on that stupid wall, challenging it as if to say ‘Bring it on, Im not done’
Indeed the girl wasn’t, for once she regained her balance she went into a loose stance, her muscles as tensed as they could get with the pain, and her mind as focused as it could get with her racing heart and pounding head. Another wave of her wand, another spell. “Stupefy!” The stun spell, lighter then the fire spell in energy. The red light hit true, and headed back towards Roan, doubled. Why the heck was the wall doing this, had she not read the fine print on it in the book in the Library? Was it supposed to attack back? She threw up a shield spell as quickly as her injured arm would allow her. “Protego!” And the red light shot back at the charmed wall, darnnit. Once again, the stun spell flew at her, faster and stronger. Roan didn’t even bother putting up a shield spell and fighting wills with it. Instead the red light slammed into her chest, making her arc gracefully and fly into the wall behind her, knocking all the wind out. She was stunned and fell to the ground, her face hitting the cold stone and her hair falling over the paleness of her skin. This hadn’t been a good idea in the least, Roan couldn’t mentally or physically handle spells being cast on her.
The girl was just lying there, her chest barely moving to show she was breathing, and her eyes open and hollow. Small streams of blood ran to the ground where the burns had been bad, and the chill felt wonderful against said burns. The fire spell had been the worst. It had been like fighting wits with herself, and she lost. Her favorite spell had defeated her, and how was she ever going to face magic again. Roan’s breath was in short rasps, harsh and slow. She would recover from this, and try again with the same spell. Instead next time she would be standing and well when it came time to finish.
