Ooo, and first thread on the Fields
Winter nights were beautiful, something that Roan would probably always enjoy. She smiled as she made her way across the grounds in her winter clothing. You could make out the red cloth of her jacket and boots and the blackness of her pants. Her gloves were also black, but hidden as her hands were shoved into her pockets as she walked down to the new Dueling Field to replace the Dueling Hall that had fallen during the War. A shiver ran down Roan's spine that was not from the winter chill. That had been a while ago, but it still haunted her. She had been in that dueling hall when bad things had happened, when the enemies of honor, so to speak, had arrived. She had seen her rival and some new enemies as well. It was good that a new place was here to replace the old one which had too many bad memories for this school.
And the sad thing was, there were so many more then those.
Her brown hair was back in a braid that was beginning to gain a shiny layer of snow as it began to fall lightly into the night. She didnt care, just let it rest where it fell as she walked onto the field, a smile on a face that didnt have the joy and the amusement it had possesed of late. Oh, it was still there. She was just a bit more subdued right now as she thought about things. Roan cast a gaze around the Field before removing her gloves to let the winter cold brush against her now soft hands, devoid of scars of the past. There was something she wanted to do, with no-one around. No longer would the girl seek fights, but she wanted to know if she still had it. If it came down to fighting, defending herself, would she still have the skill to protect herself? Would the fire still come at her beckoning or had that dimmed with her newly found freedom and love of life? She closed those hazel eyes and took a deep breath, reaching inside of herself. There it was, blazing as bright as ever, the fire that had become her legacy. A sun to many shiny stars. The Hufflepuff was aware of it's strenght, and she didnt like to use it's full power, it did scary things. Talon had given her a great gift when he awakened it in her, now could she still use it?
Like one dips their hand into water, Roan reached into her fire and used her will to grab ahold of it 'pulling' at it. The familiar sensations rose in her body, and if her eyes had been open, you could see the fire in them. Her body temperature rose slightly and her hand shimmered as the heat around it increased, a smile forming on the girl's face. Then came the word, rolling off her tongue and through her lips with anticipation.
"Inflamare."
Her hazel eyes opened to the bit of flame that she managed to hold above her hand, flickering in the cold wind but not extinguishing. Roan smiled and almost laughed, happy to see her flame. "There you are my friend." She said quietly, flexing her fingers and using her will to bend it in many ways and shapes, making it move around like a snake or a ball, increasing it until it was large and hot, to one smaller then a candle flame.
She still had it.
Keeping the fire in her hand, Roan looked around the Dueling Field. So many memories of fights, all leading her to who she was now. Fighting was just a part of the girl that was never going to leave her, at least she didnt have to seek it anymore. Roan didnt want it, she was sick of the carnage it brought on and the stress. She wanted to protect others, yes, and would do anything for her friends, but revenge didnt mean as much anymore. But if her enemies came seeking her for any reason at all...she was ready.
With a chuckle Roan looked back at the fire in her hand and closed her hand into the first, extinguishing the warm red flame and leaving her in the dark in the middle of the snow, a triumphant smile on her face. It was good to be strong.
