It was the time of day, just before sunset, when the sun and the moon share the sky, and sometimes, at the far edges of the sky a star or two twinkles and shines. Zoey had just finished dinner, but the scent of the food was still present on the air. She really shouldn't be able to smell anything this far from the castle, she thought, but finally decided that it must be part of the magic of the place.
'Here is good,' she decided, and flopped on the grass. This was called Dueling Field, but most of the students were eating dinner, or in their common rooms, so the field was deserted. It was perfect. Zoey was going to watch the sunset. If she was lucky, she could watch the stars come out too. She'd only been here a few days, the 'I'm new here, and don't know the rules yet' excuse should still work.
Three days, and hardly a sign of her brother. Zoey was starting to get discouraged. She realized that she must have at least seen him. The student population was larger than at her last school, but it still wasn't that big. And she'd been scanning the Gryffindor table at meal times. She shook her head sadly. She hadn't thought about it before, but people changed a lot between ten and fifteen.
Still, she was certain she'd find him. After all, his name was down on the list of people who were staying for the summer.

Trudging lazily through the school grounds, the fifth year gryffindor kept his gaze low to the grass below. It had taken time, but he'd pretty much convinced himself that none would get hurt if he just didn't have anything to do with them. If he didn't say a word, didn't share a glance - all would be fine.
To think that all of this was because he left his sister alone whilst he went off selfishly.
Despite what many of his house-mates thought, he wasn't just some messed up emo kid. A year after Zoey's death, he'd been diagnosed with various medical conditions which led him to fear pretty much the whole world around him. If he cut a finger, he believed he would bleed to death, if he ached, he thought he was having an attack.
Dressed in a open-collared shirt, with his house-tie wrapped loosely around, drainpipe jeans and a pair of vibrantly colored converse - one red, one green, the teen's heavily tattooed arms were highly noticeable in the deep light. October sighed lightly as he walked along the softly grounded Dueling fields. He'd been here not too long himself, but it felt almost as though his whole life he had spent watching the raindrops hit his dormitory window.
Dragging his glum gaze towards the stars, Safá inhaled the crisp summer air, his heart skipping an unnecessary beat as the sunset cast it's auburn rays over the grounds. He had nothing to do other than wait, just to listen to the silence he adored. Wait until the next unfortunate ghost decided to walk into his path.
Speaking of walking his path...
October's weight came crashing down as his foot lodged beneath the legs of another sitting on the fields. Gasping harshly as he landed, he grimaced through the small pain in his knee - fighting back the overwhelming idea that his whole leg had been torn apart. It was pathetic, maybe, to another's point of view, but he could think no other way.
Groaning as he sat up, the teen ran a colorful hand through his hair - closing his eyes until the head-rush subsided.
The sunset was brilliant. It renewed Zoey's hope of finding her brother. They'd cross paths eventually. They had to. Anyway, she had it narrowed down to one house. She question every Gryffindor she came across until she found him. With those happy thoughts in mind, Zoey snuggled into the earth and tall grass. Her knees were bent, creating mountains that peaked clear of the jungle of grass, her head was cradled in her hands, her fingers interlaced.
She was just watching for Orion to appear (her favorite constellation), when she felt a foot beneath her. Ignoring her own pain, she at once sat up and turned her attention to the other student who'd tripped over her. "Are you alright?" she asked. "I'm sorry, I know I shouldn't be out here, and I must look pretty silly lying in the grass. But it was such a pretty evening. I hope you're not hurt. If you are, I'll take you to the hospital wing." She offered without once stopping to think about the fact that she didn't know where that was.
There was a touch of anxiety to her words, as though she fearded he might really get hurt. get a grip, Zoey, she scolded herself mentally. He only tripped. It's not like he fell off a broom. Still, she couldn't help but be concerned. "Here, lemme see," she insisted. She gently grasped his calf to get a better look at the spot on his knees he'd first grabbed. She felt a sudden whoosh of releif. "Didn't even spoil your jeans," she announced happily.
That when she noticed his head in his tattoooed hands. "What's the matter?" Her voice was more drawn and anxious than before. She held his free hand, like he was a little child, and put her other arm around him. "Shhhhh...You're going to be alright." She began to rub his back. "Everything's going to be okay. What's your name?"

"Are you alright? I'm sorry, I know I shouldn't be out here, and I must look pretty silly lying in the grass. But it was such a pretty evening. I hope you're not hurt. If you are, I'll take you to the hospital wing."
Opening his eyes as the girl spoke, the teen swallowed, his mouth corse with his own fear. "Y-Yeah, I'm fine. I j-just," he muttered, rubbing his dizzy head as he glanced towards his knee. Okay, my leg is fine. Not hurt, calm down he sighed inwardly, his grey eyes flicking up towards the clearly younger girl.
"Here, lemme see... Didn't even spoil your jeans!"
Now, didn't October feel a fool. To be sat on the grass with an arm wrapped tight around him and his hand clasped lightly between hers. He felt like a kid compared to the girl besides him, but it was still an oddly warm and friendly sensation.
Resting his head lightly at her shoulder in an instinctive reaction to her being as she was. "I'm sorry, I-I just can't h-help but over-react," he whispered as she asked his name, feeling utterly pathetic with the way he must appear to her.
"My name's October, October Cinders," he smiled briefly, rubbing his knee even though the pain was no longer there.
Zoey's smile got about ten times wider when he said his name. She flung her arms around him in a big hug. "October!" she cried happily. "I was afraid I'd never find you, but I should have known you at once, you look just like dad! He'll be so pleased I found you. I can't believe how grown-up you look. But I guess you couldn't stay ten forever. How's mother?" and here her smile fell a little. "I'm sorry, Octy, I really am. I wanted to write you and mom, and tell you I was okay, but daddy said that that wasn't a good idea. He says he sent mom a letter, but I dunno if he really did."
She released her brother. "Of course, you'll want to meet daddy, right? He wanted to take you, too, but he couldn't do that to mother. He still loves her, you know. But I suppose that this'll be confusing for you, you might not even know what I'm talking about. You see, I'm your sister, Zoey. That day at the park, when you left me, daddy came for me. He's really great. He's been wanting to meet you for a long time, and when he found out mother was sending you to Firefox, he transferred me here as well." She stopped talking. She'd just given a October a lot of information to sort through, and she knew his head must be spinning from it. Candy. she thought immediately. Candy always helped. She dug through her backpack. "Chocolate Frog?" she offered.

Whoa... hold up
Zoey?
This girl was speaking of his mother like her own and then claimed to be his dead sister. Obviously the only real reason he could up with was that her words were true, but she was dead. He lost her forever. He killed her.
Relieved that he was released from the embrace, October stared blankly at the girl as she offered him chocolate - his grey eyes wide with confusion and almost fear. Taking it slowly with careful fingers, the gryffindor bit into the warm, creamy candy - savouring it's flavour as he tried to address the situation.
He would answer the other questions later, he decided. He needed to make sure he wasn't dreaming... or hallucinating.
"Z-Zoey? I-I thought you'd died," he began, trying to rid himself of the usual cowardly stutterings, "M-Mom thought you'd died..."
Zoey sat back on her heels with her own candy as she evaluated his reaction. The shock and fear she had expected, and the disbelief as well. However, his words came as a shock. "You thought I was dead?" Her eybrows flew up to hide themselves in her hairline. "How could you think that? He sent a letter. I watched him do it. Oh, October," she sighed and wrapped her arms around him again. "I'm so sorry. Things must've been awful for you."
She just held her brother for a moment, but although her mouth was still, her mind was still whiring away. How could daddy let them think me dead? What poor mother and October must've gone through. And all the time, I was just as happy and content as could be. She hugged her brother a little tighter. She was just so happy to have him back. "I missed you, Toby," she breathed reverting to the childhood nickname he'd had.

Zoey's words didn't seem to make sense. He didn't remember recieving any letter from his father. Heck, he couldn't remember having a father at all. He wasn't stupid, he knew he must of had one at some point - but his mother had never mentioned him, never spoke his name. As far as he knew, he had no father, he could have vanished of the face of the earth...
"I-I should never have left you. It, it was selfish of me, and I n-never forgave myself for losing you," he muttered, turning to her in turn and pulling her tight with his arms around her shoulders. "T-There was a reported death a few hours later... I was s-so sure it was you," he sighed, flicking a tuft of her hair as he pulled back from the embrace with a small smile.
October raised his right sleeve for her to see. There, on his -somewhat toned- bicep had he tattooed 'Z-O-Z-O' in fancy lettering. Shooting her a sheepish grin as she referred to him as Toby. It'd been a while since he'd been called that. "I missed you too, Zoey. I just don't understand why father never even let me know he was out there..." he muttered, suprised slightly that his usual stutterings seemed to be fading into nothingness.
"Would you really have let me go with him, had you known?" Zoey asked her brother. "I'm sorry, Toby, that's how it had to be, but he's been going crazy trying to find a way to get us back together. I'm so glad you transferred here, or else I might never have found you."
