This very hot and sticky summer was getting to be rather disgusting. Niobe hated the fact that her red hair clung to the back of her neck and that she couldn’t wear her witch’s robes for fear of overheating. She was working on a potion secretly in her room that would help cool someone down from the inside but it was strictly theory on her part and she was having trouble figuring out where to go next. It didn’t help that the fire she used to simmer the cauldron made her room even more of a hotbox. It was one summer evening after dinner that she got sick of roadblocks on her potion and she turned it to a simmer before walking out of the Common Room.
The sun hadn’t set yet and so there were still a few students out on the grounds enjoying the evening. Summer days made it so the sun lasted longer, and up in her in Spain it was hotter. Even a cool evening breeze wasn’t enough to calm down Niobe who headed straight to the Lake. Some Hufflepuffs waved to her and she waved back with a friendly smile and a flash of blue eyes.
When she got to the Lake’s edge she nearly sighed in relief. If anything was going to cool her off from this sticky summer heat it was the water of the Lake. She honestly couldn’t care if it was freezing cold, it was better than this. Niobe stripped off her gym shoes and socks and the t-shirt she had on, wearing nothing but a bright yellow tank top and her jeans. Placing her wand on top of the pile of clothes she walked out onto the water’s edge.
It felt cool against her feet and she smiled. The sun played against the water beautifully and she could see her fair skinned reflection in the water. Under sunlight her blue eyes were even brighter and her red hair looked like fire. Niobe wasn’t vain, but she did enjoy her looks which she got from her mother. Dipping her feet in was not what the Hufflepuff wanted though and so she walked deeper in ignoring the sensation of wet denim against her legs. Once deep enough she dove under the water and immersed herself completely.
Instantly the waters cooled her off and she almost felt the heat jump out of her skin. Niobe surfaced and brushed her now sopping red hair out of her face. She treaded water and turned her eyes towards the horizon where the first faint red streaks of sunset began to form.
