(Totally uninspired title, I know. Deal with it, as well as the invite. After first post, its open to all.)
The end of July, and summer was at the peak of intensity. Thankfully, this vast sea of a lake served to offset that heat fairly well, providing moisture to every corner of parched Iberia. Samuel Nanten, resident ex-thief of Ravenclaw, had just had his first run of assignments today. It was a lot to absorb, and much work to contend with, but he was glad he did it. He had a feeling it would be a lot of fun, representing his house with his paperwork and his participation in class.
Walking through the tall grass, he made his way to a patch of short, mossy grass next to the shore. The currents were gentle, and the air seemed perfect for relaxing in. Reaching in his pocket, he pulled out what appeared to be a 1/32 scale fold-up chair, barely bigger than his thumbnail. Pointing his wand, he zapped the chair back to a size that wouldn't be crushed beneath his weight, and he set it on the ground. His toosh, of course, promptly took a relaxing seat in the lawn chair. Ah, Sam was glad that there were classes being held. He wondered what his next sessions would be like, and if any other classes would be made available soon. This kind of downtime was only worth enjoying after a hard day's work, after all.
Chika was heading out to the lake to relax as she normaly did. It was a nice warm Evening, not to hot for her. since it was evening, it was a little early for Chika to go to the lake as her normal time was at night. Chika figured that not many people would be out at the lake, as it was hot still and many didn't like to travel in the heat during summer.
Chika arrived at the lake to see only one person around. This person was in a law chair, relaxing. This person had his lawn chair next to the shore of the lake, in a mossy patch of grass. Chika wimperd a littel because. This person was next to her favorite spot. if she sat there she might have to interact. She figured the mossy grass was worth it though. Chika ploped down, took her shoes of and put her feet in the water like she usaly did.
Chika looked down into the lake and in her mistake she fell in.

(-Sigh- Fine, I'll roll with it)
Sam had taken a pair of dark lens that could be clipped onto his frames, turning them into shades. He basked in the remnants of the sunlight, feeling himself almost relax into a nap. The wordless presence of another person stirred him from drowsiness though, and he looked to his right to see the young Japanese girl from his class. This was his first time out on the lake, so he wasn't sure if he was intruding on her favorite spot or something. He got up from his seat to give her the space she probably wanted, but then a splash jarred him from his thoughts. This girl just was full of surprises, it seemed.
"You okay?" he asked, shielding his eyes with one hand since the sunlight still crept over the horizon. This girl was a complete mess. He reached out a hand for her to take, if she needed the help standing. It was funny, from the way she was sitting, it didn't even seem likely for her to tumble in the way she did. He wondered if there was an octopus in the lake, or if she was maybe just that prone to accidents.
Chika look up at the boy in front her. He looked firmilar but she couln't place him. He must have been from one of her classes, otherwize she wouln't have even thought he was fimilar.
Chika was a mess. Her robes were now all soaked, and muddy to boot. Her once neatly tied up hair was now out of it's ribbon and flopping in clumps besides her head.
Chika stood up and wiped herself off, not that it did much for cleaning her robes, but. Chika look again at the boy. " Yeah, I'm fi...ne" Chika said as she fell down on her butt back into the muddy bank of the lake.
"Hehe, Guess I'm not as okay as I thought I was" Chika pulled at the back of her hair. She made a strange noise as she found that the ribbon was missing." Oh no my blue ribbon. Where did it go"? Chika waded the water to find her ribbon.

Sam gave the girl a quizzical look, it was like her feet were tied together in a knot. She seemed a lot more hopeless now than she did in class, when she actually seemed pretty relaxed and composed. Now though, she didn't even want to undo the mess she made out of her nice dress. It wasn't like there weren't spells to undo such messes. She waded further out, expressing her distress over a blue ribbon she apparently lost during her tumble.
Sam sighed, he wasn't sure what to do with her. There was a simple spell for missing objects as well, he'd used it dozens of times since he got here. His eyes trailed lazily over the water, trying to find the ribbon. He imagined it was light enough to stay visible, at least until the current pulled it under. He figured it best to find it before the current pulled the girl under, as well. Pointing his wand, he concentrated hard on what appeared to be the object in question.
"Accio ribbon!" he called out commandingly, and the royal blue fabric shot out from the water, levitating obediantly in front of him.
"This was what you were looking for, right? Come on out of the water, its not safe to swim with something as heavy as a dress on." Sam said, his hands on his hips. He was hoping this girl wasn't gonna need Sam to pull her out as well. She was probably the type of drowner that flailed, too.

Chika frantically looked through the water over and over. How stupid did she have to be to lose such a precious give from her brother. It was one of the few gifts he had given her in his lifetime. Chika knew Osamu would be rolling in his grave if he knew she lost the ribbon he gave her.
She hear the boy cast a spell. Her ribbon came flying out of the water and into the boys hand. Silly, why didn't think of that? She could have found it with out the panic. Chika guessed it was just that she temporally lost her reason because it was a precious thing that was missing.
Chika Swam back near the shore and got up, this time her legs steady themselves. " Yes that is exactly what I was looking for. My precious ribbon." Chika smiled happily when she knew the ribbon had been found. When the boy mentioned a dress, Chika looked down and remembered she was wearing a nee length red dress with Puffy sleeves. " Oh my, I guess a dress is not suitable for swimming." Chika put her wand to her dress. She muttered some words and the dress and her robes were clean and dry again. Chika carefully made her way out of the water. She got on the grass and took of her socks and shoes and cast the same spell on them.
" Thank you umm... I'm sorry I don't know your name"? Chika said that to the boy. " You do seem familiar though" Chika added.

"Samuel Nanten, 3rd year Ravenclaw. Just call me Sam-kun, if you like." he smiled, familiar enough with casual Japanese speech to intergrate this informal honorific. The guy was a nerd, after all.
"I remember your patronus, at least. A very pretty butterfly." he said as he turned around to lift up the lawnchair. He brought it over next to Chika, allowing her the choice to sit if she wanted to. He held out her ribbon for her to take.
"Okay Sam-kun. I'm Chika Chisama third year Hufflepuff. You can call me Chika-chan, or Chi-chan, because that's what people call me most of the time. You seem to know you Japanese honorifics" Chika smiled as she said that. " Oh now I know where I remembered you from, You were the Ravenclaw boy in My DADA class. The one with The Dolphin for a patronus."
When Sam Offered her the law chair as a place to sit she politely brushed it off, and sat on the mossy grass. "No thank you that's you chair you should Sit there." Chika Got up and went over to Sam and grabbed her ribbon. " Thank you so much for finding my precious ribbon." Chika said as she gave sam a big hug.

"Eh, a bit." he said with an understanding smile. The girl seemed happy to meet someone that was a little familiar with her culture. At the least, it seemed like she finally remembered who he was, though he supposed it wasn't easy for students to remember each other without so much as brushing shoulders together.
She took her ribbon, then threw her arms around his neck in a warm hug. His eyes widened a bit in surprise, and he wasn't sure he should really hug her back. He was sure she was glad to have her prized ribbon back, but this hardly warranted such thanks. He rested his hands on her waist, then stepped away, a grateful smile on his face.
"It wasn't a big deal, really. You don't need to do this."
It was nice that some people around here were such easy friends to make. Unfortunately, Sam just wasn't in the routine of making friends just like that, especially with girls that can just hug him so disarmingly. It seemed this girl had never met with any really scary people in this world yet, the way Sam had. And honestly, he hoped she never had to. It was why he wasn't so quick to get close to her, or anyone else. He just wanted to go to school, he didn't want to make friends, only to lose them when they found out what he used to be. He stared off at the waning sunset, unsure what to do to break this awkward silence.
Chika hugged her Ribbon and then tightly tied it around her hair, being careful to make sure it wouldn't fall out this time. " Yes, I did, this ribbon is my most prized possession. After all it was part of one of the two gifts my Brother gave me, When he was alive." Chika Sorta fround thinking about it but immediately when back to a smile, in hopes that Sam didn't notice .
"About earlier, When I felling in the lake, well I was looking for a lost locket. I dropped it in the lake some time ago and I thought I saw it. When I went for a closer look, well I fell in. Kinda Silly huh"? Chika laughed at her self " I only said this because most people would be curious about that. What can I say I'm a bit of a klutz." Chika laughed again.
Though Sam wasn't looking at Chika when she spoke of her brother, it didn't take a genius to know that the subject must have hurt for her to talk about. He felt bad for her, but he never had any siblings. And despite that lack of distraction, his parents just, never really paid him much mind. He felt more like the family pet, whom his parents would be sweet (or hateful) on, when the occasion and mood struck them. This world around him was his only confidant, and he had stumbled into the world of wizardry with virtually no magical ability of his own. This world, seemingly parallel to his own, felt more like a whole new universe, that a chosen few were worthy of entering. Sam truly felt like he had accomplished something amazing, for the first time in his life.
It just hurt that Sam had no one to share this accomplishment with.
The pretty Japanese girl went on about her locket, which was the reason behind various other incidents of tumbling into the lake in the past. That, and she was just plain clumsy. He chuckled a bit, trying not to be rude but still finding himself wanting to help her. He lifted up his watch, rotating the frame around the clock's face. An electrical hum escaped from the muggle device.
"What kind of metal was the locket made of, Chika? Can you take me to where you lost it?" he said, with chocolate brown eyes looking back up to the girl. He felt kind of bad, deferring to one of his old spy gadgets that used to aid him in stealing. He didn't have any interest in the girl's property though, save for returning it to her. This watch of his was a metal detector, so maybe he could also find her a cute ring or something that other students have lost to the lake. This might turn out to be fun.

" Well it's pure sliver, and yes I can take you to where I lost it". Chika took ten steps over to a small patch of dirt. " This is where I lost it. I was jumping in the lake one night and I think the Chain broke, so yeah this is where i lost it. " Chika smiled she was glad she had someone to help her find the locket, after all it was a gift her mother gave her when she was a baby.
" What kind of device is that it looks so cool"? Chika smiled again as she said that. " Well good luck, and i hope you find it." Chika huged him quikly again and then let him go to start his work.
Silver, yes! A precious ore, and one that was probably even more valuable than gold in these parts. And it was definitely one of the metals this cheap metal detector could pick up on and-
......
This was bad. Sam took a breath. He almost felt himself go back to the person he used to be, and this locket didn't hold so much value to the girl because it was silver, it was a keepsake from her own mother! Giving himself a few more moments, his breathing relaxed, and he calmly pushed his glasses back up in front of his eyes, composing himself. His old compulsion no longer ruled his hands. If he was to steal anything, it would be for making someone other than himself happy. In fact, from one perspective, he was doing just that. This boggy earth had claimed this girl's locket, and now that he was here, he could resteal it for her, once more.
His chocolate brown eyes glinted brilliantly. It was time to get to work.
He stopped over the mound of earth where Chika said the locket went missing. His brow furrowed, and he skimmed the area with his wrist extended. He looked over his shoulder, noticing how interested Chika was in his watch. He smiled a bit.
"It's a normal muggle watch, but has a metal detector built in. See, the minute and hour hands lock on to the magnetic signals that certain metals give off, and they point me in its direction. The only bad thing is, I kinda gotta reset the time everytime I use this bloody detector." he said with a chuckle. His face then lit up with a gasp, and his watch hands started to spin rapidly. He was practically standing on top of it. Before he could stop walking to look, however, he went and tripped right over it. The locket was hidden in a patch of grass, next to the shore. It glinted serenely.
"It must have gotten washed up from the tide after you lost it in the water, or something." he said as he brushed himself off and took the locket by the chain. Indeed, a link had broke. He extended it casually to the Japanese girl.
" Wow a normal muggle watch turned into a metal detector, what a neat device. To bad you have to reset the time every time you use the detector. I know maybe since I'm good with charms and stuff maybe just maybe I can rig that watch up to project the time digitally when you ask for it, or to automatically restart when you done using the metal detector. I mean I have made magical maps so why not, only if you want me to though." Chika smiled at Sam
Chika was happy when she got her locket back. She was glad it had washed upon the shore, but was astonished that she hadn't noticed it herself. Chika puled out a new chain and placed the locket on it. She held it in her hands for a wile and then opened it to see if it still played the melody it once did. Sure enough the beautiful melody played. It was her favorite song because it was one her mom had composted and enchanted into the locket. Chika looked to the side and noticed the picture of her family was unharmed. She was so glad the water didn't ruin it.
Chika Gave Sam another big hug. " Thank you Sam-kun."
Well, Sam had to say it was kind of nice having a friend like Chika. Endearing, silly, cute, she didn't take the time to analyze things, so much as just take them as they were. Most people would be perplexed to learn Sam had such a random, suspicious device in his watch. She was only impressed though, and even offered to place a charm on his watch that would help him set the time back himself, rather than pester the next person he saw with a watch for the time. He supposed this was why it was great to make friends out of his house, sometimes their personality differences were nice to embrace.
The girl's lips eased into a dreamy smile as she let her mother's tune reminisce, and she threw her arms around him in another big hug. This time he relaxed into it, holding her to him. He earned the hug, this time.
"Just take care of it, hm? Maybe keep your precious keepsakes in the Hufflepuff commons if you're gonna take more random dips without so much as taking your dress off." he said glibly, poking her in the nose.
