Ashelle walked down from delivering her message to Professor Windwaltz. It had been a puzzling and rather tiring day, what with the new professor treating her rudely and tromping around the school delivering extra homework to all her professors. Ashelle walked slowly and thoughtfully out the main archway and down the steps to the lake. It was odd really, she had only ever met a few people like that in her whole life besides muggles -
'not all muggles! just the ones you've met so far!' her inner voice reminded her. Yes, agreed Ashelle, just the one's I've met so far. It was hard to retrain herself, but it was going very well.
Aunt Ashlee wrote to her more often, and told her all the going-on's of the Triad. Apparently Grand Miranda had stopped talking about retirement at Aunt Ashlee's request, as some of the other Mothers were getting antsy, and kept pushing their daughters to do better in work and school.
"It's maddening," Aunt Ashlee had written, "if I haven't picked one of them already why would I suddenly pick one of them now?!" The words had filled Ashelle with both fear and excitement. Could it be then? Could it be that Aunt Ashlee really was considering her? Then again it also sounded like she'd already chosen, and that might mean it could be one of Aunt Ashlee's best friend and cousin's grand daughters Aine or Zena O'Conner. Yet they were so like their mother Vicki - laughing at the very thought of being Grand and promising each other jokingly in turns that they would both demolish the Grandship and resign or make it so they both could rule together.
"And yet . . . the world goes on, not even knowing one of the greatest decision's of civilized wizardom hangs on Aunt Ashlee's shoulders," sighed Ashelle, throwing a small pebble into the water.
