Nemo knew that the scene before him would be considered, by most, to be pretty. He could acknowledge this, with the same aesthetic logic used by those who judged women’s beauty pageants by measuring the distance between the contestants’ facial features. Simple geometry – according to the guidelines drawn up by some general consensus, this place qualified as beautiful. Beyond that, there was nothing. No inspiration, no connection, none of the awe he would imagine springing across the face of a new student as they first laid eyes on this, or any part, of the campus.
All he felt at the moment was irritation.
The young man allowed himself a scowl when he was sure no one was watching, as his mind mulled over the events of his first day. He wasn’t sure why he had expected anything different from this place...each school he transferred to was always the same, no matter what country, or continent, it was on. Unchallenging, boring, and filled with people who failed to recognize his true potential, both students and teachers alike.
It was only a matter of time before he would convince his parents to allow him to leave this place, or he was expelled – whichever came first. Until then, he could only hope to find a way to amuse himself...he hadn’t encountered anyone particularly interesting yet, but he had only just arrived. Someone might still manage to surprise him...and if they didn’t, he had learned that even the dullest people could be amusing if they were put into the right circumstances. It would simply be up to him to create those circumstances.
He sighed, tossing a rock towards the lake from where he sat on the soft grass, and altering his expression and body language to appear more approachable. Even friendly.
