Unknown growled when he heard Rob say the command for their return to Diadem. He pushed Chris to the ground and then stabbed one of his blades into Chris' left thigh, all the way through...
He ran over to Rob and confronted him.
"Scorpius! What are you doing?"
He listened to Scorpius' reasoning and sighed, he did not want to leave so soon. He had the girl though, and that was enough for today. Not as many prisoners as he had hoped, but he could still use her and any others anyone else had taken...
He sheathed his remaining blade and then extended his right arm. His wand flew out of his uniform sleeve and into his hand. He aimed his wand at an unscathed building and a flurry of magical sparks flew out of it. They burned the side of the building and left an old symbol of Unknowns... The snake wrapped around the sword.
Unknown smiled to himself, and then disappeared into a portal which opened below him and led to his abyss. It closed as soon as he was gone.bg
Skullwhite was angered by this command, but powerless to refuse. This Count Scorpius was shaping up to be one of the harshest masters he'd had. His swing for Mustang's leg desisted and he merely gaurded himself from assault as he spoke. "Jame's T. Mustang, I must now leave this place by orders I cannot refuse. However, I have challenged you in the manner of the Faerie and Faerie Law must be upheld. Therefore I propose that we finsh this on our own time. Meet me in one week, by the banks of the Shining River." The kelpie stepped back from his honorable opponent and bowed. Then he phased back to horse form and speed away at a full gallop. bg

"Alright lets just take care of this headache youre giving me. And before you ask how im still breathing...you dont need bones to BE the rain."
What the hell was he talking about? Vlad didn't really know, but he responded with the only obvious response: laughter. He laughed loud and hard, knowing full well that this idiot he was fighting had about as much strength as a squirrel. He was also not amused by his statement about "being the rain", which is quite impossible from a magical standpoint. Sure, one could isolate the spirit and the body and use the spirit to control the rains, but that was dangerous without a horcrux keeping one's soul from being dragged into its respective new home. He was well aware that Chris had not the skill to achieve such magic, and Vlad could actually feel the boy's presence nearby.
Rather suddenly, a field of sparkling purple energy enclosed him, and Vlad wondered what sort of pathetic attack Chris was preparing. It turned out to be a containment field, one that quickly surrounded him and began dragging him up through the hole in the roof. Curious as to the nature of this pentagonal field, he reached out a finger to touch it and was rewarded with a small jolt of electricity, one which he barely felt.
"I wouldnt try that. I can send a hefty little shock to wherever i feel needed. You do realize youre standing on it right?"
"Oh, really, you retarded little boy?" Vlad asked, condescension positively oozing out of his mouth.
A massive jolt of electrical energy, enough to kill Chris many times over (not like that would be hard!), surged through Vlad's body, but he felt it not. This was mediocre magic, at best.
"By the way. Dont try escaping. Theres only one way of getting out as a few students discovered a few years back. Was good times to be had by all. It blocks all magical signals. You cant disappear through it, cant send signals, cant even break it. Works on everything ive discovered. Far greater than you have tried it."
Then Chris was in front of him, smiling smugly. Vlad feigned a look of absolute terror and shock, hoping Chris would be offended. He appeared to be too stupid to be offended, and instead made another stupid comment.
"Water and time heals all wounds my friend. Now should i just crush you into nothing with all the force of a black hole or leave you there as a testament not to screw around with what you dont understand?"
"Oh, shut up already!"
And then the pentagon shrunk significantly, restricting his movement considerably. Chris said something else which Vlad could not quite make out, and then the field conformed to his body, making him unable to move at all. Chris was saying something, Vlad knew, but he ignored him. He was too busy trying to remember Vivaldi's Winter, whose music he adored but could not remember at this point in time. Then Chris as gone, and Vlad breathed a sigh of relief as his IQ rose to compensate the losses it had taken while listening to the boy.
What told Vlad that Chris was an amateur was the way he spoke of his magical field. He acted as though it was impervious, as though there was only one way to escape it, and as though others had tried who were greater than he and were unable. This was all foolish, of course. Nothing was unbreakable, and everything could be breached. This field was not particularly strong, and would have kept Syrus preoccupied for less than twenty seconds. But Vlad was far stronger than Syrus, and knew simple methods of escaping from pathetic things like this field. As all mages know, the power of magic permeates all things, moving with singular determination through the universe upon it's endless path. Even here, within this nearly airtight shield, magic existed. Nothing, no matter how powerful is able to block all magical signals. Those things that are called impenetrable, unbreakable, impervious, they are all quite the opposite. It all depended on the strength of the individual, and his power in imposing his will upon others. Chris had little of both, while Vlad's was nearly unmatched.
He closed his eyes (figuratively speaking), tapping into the magical field that existed beyond the five senses. It sparkled and flowed like a remarkably beautiful river, taking all things into its embrace. He delved deeper, and saw the strings of energy that bound him to many others. He found a string that was connected to Chris, thought about shattering it and ending his pathetic life, and decided not to. Instead, he merely vibrated a few chosen strings, sending shockwaves through the magical pool. There was no warning, no flash of light or burst of sound. The shield simply disappeared, its weak connection structure disabled by pure magic.
Ten seconds had passed since Chris had disappeared, and Vlad was already free. His crimson eyes ignited once more and absorbed the surroundings. From out of the corner of his eye he could see Lord Scorpius, and could hear him declaring a full retreat for the sake of his awesomely evil plans. Vlad agreed with his methodology and was about to leave for Diadem, but he had something personal to complete. He dove once more into the great pool of magic, and found the string that connected him to Chris once more. He reached out with a pulse of magical energy, and it traveled down the length of the string in a microsecond. Chris's frail human body could not stand the effects of weaving, and his legs shattered immediately.
"A goodbye present, my pathetic little child," whispered Vlad, enchanting his voice so that Chris could hear it in his mind. A second later Vlad was gone, leaving behind him a small cloud of ominous black smoke.bg
*Chris held his leg knowing that Vlad had escaped. He threw some of his best at these people. Where they all ghosts or something? This was getting a little rediculous.*

Thus Spake Zarathustra (Talon's editing: I kept that in there because I love it.)
IC:
It would be a lie if Lord Korodin said that he was not disappointed. Of course he was disappointed, for not only had Muryllis failed him and Scorpius sounded the retreat, but he had not seen nor heard anything of Windwaltz. Syrus longed to see him once more, and perhaps to fight the legendary lightning mage one-on-one, mano a mano. But alas, there was to be no time for this. He abandoned his hopes and instead followed the orders issued to him, knowing full well that he would return with his Apprentice someday and would finally remove Mustang. He grinned at the thought of torturing the irritating boy, his eyes shining with the violet light that was his trademark.
He raised his hand into the air and brought it swiftly down, in a karate chop motion. There was a massive boom of sound and Syrus Korodin disappeared, leaving a pristine ice sculpture (of a duck, no less), in his place.bg

Hayzie could only sit and watch as everything happened around here, there was nothing she could do. James rode past on the Lycan who was helping them earlier, Chris had declined the offer of a dual... and then...
The Shadow who had put her in the cage walked over. "You have turned down my challenge, wizard, now I will take the girl and leave. You fail, monsiuer."
"What! No!" Hayz called out, but it was too late. She had gone.
Post by James "Mustang" Morrison on Apr 7, 2006 14:26:34 GMT -5
"No..." James dropped to his knees, leaning on his swords for support. It was over, and they had lost. Hayzie was gone as was that Mr. Nobody, countless dead lined the streets, the villains could only sneer at their attempts to defend the villagers. James's swords clanged to the ground. "No..."
He had thrown everything he had at them, he had to use some of the runes for God's sakes. And they only sneered in contempt. The good side would need every last man it could get. They had to leave for London earlier than thought. He would need to call in every favor, every debt the Guardians had accumulated over the millenia. They would need an army to stop the Society of Shadows, and even that might not be enough.
His knee throbbed in pain. And now he had to fight that Kelpie. Oh, if he could kill but one more fiend it might make up for the failure here today. At least for him. They had fought valiantly, and it had not been enough. He'd have to empty the Guardian armories, they would need every weapon they could get for the upcoming battle. This had been but a taste of what was yet to come. They would not be as merciful next time.
James stood and hobbled over to where Miles was. Human once more, he was coughing up water and shaking himself off like a dog. "You alright?" Miles nodded silently. James patted his back. "Good man." He started to walk away, but Miles pulled him back. "Listen, that Shadow you fought...the first one...it was Tobias Selther...tell Windwaltz."
"Okay, okay. That's a good man, just rest." He left Miles there and limped over to Chris. "Well, what are we supposed to do now? Where do we go from here?"
Are you, are you Coming to the tree Where I told you to run, so we'd both be free? Strange things did happen here No stranger would it seem If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.
Taking one last look around him, Muryllis pondered on the destruction the Society had caused. It was a mess of sorts; nearly every building was in ruin, and those that stood were either battered beyond recognition or covered by the rubble of those around them. Indeed, the humble town of Drakborough had become a battle site. Either way, he reasoned, taking in the stench of death with a degree of distaste, there wasn't much I could do to stop this...
Glancing again at James Mustang, Muryllis merely gazed with interest; his pale, white mask, however, remained blank and expressionless, planted within the dark hood of his cloak. A breeze picked up, swirling through the Redeemer's robes; he disappeared.

bic :The sky had darkened for the evening to begin rather quickly that night. Kat sat in her office, gazing out her window. Black storm clouds took the purple sky easily and lightning split the middle of it. It was quite a dramatic scene. "That can't be natrual," Kat said, raising an eyebrow. She stood from her chair. Amongst the black sky, smoke wavered about. Something was on fire. Leaving her office, she made her way down the quiet hall. The hall was seemingly deserted.
Wondering into the great hall, the distinct smoke became more clear as the scene from the village Drakborough hit her eye.
Flames eurpted and were spreading fast. Black swirls danced around throughout the village and lightning split the sky. "Their..at Drakborough?!" Kat bolted from the Feasting Hall and took off through the gate.
Following the path down to the village, she withdrew her wand from her pocket. The situation hit her fast. Hayzie sat in a cage, James with a sword, innocent families running around. "The bastards-" Kat closed her slightly open mouth and ran onto the scene.
Grabbing the bars of Hayzie's cage, she said, "Hayzie! Are you alright?"
Kat looked around and spotted who she assumed to be the leaders of this pack. "Scorpius," Kat whispered to herself. She turned and yelled to James, "Is there anyone else who is fighting this? Where is Talon!"
Kat had the dreadful feeling that these Shadow Bastards were just playing with them. Killing at random, only to do enough damage to scare. She turned to see one of her students Muryllis. He had chosen the Dark. Anger imploded into her. She ran over and stood behind James. "Are you alright? Can you stand?" Kat asked him kneeling down.
Before she knew it, a wizard stepped out from behind her and disapeared with Hayzie. "no!" Kat gasped. "How did I not see that?"
"Haven't you done enough! WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT OF THIS VILLAGE!? Have you not spilled enough blood for this 'game'?"she yelled, knowing that she wasn't pulling the smartest move by yelling at the stronger force.
They were gone though.
"We were outnumberd bastards." Kat spat glaring at nothing, she watched as the last disapeared. "Are you alright James?" she asked him again.

James looked at Professor Elensar slowly as if in a dream. Finally, someone who could have, might've, possibly been able done something about what had happened, and she was too late. "I'm...fine, Professor. Kelpie got my knee, though." He picked up his swords and sheathed only Darkstalker, for he had come only with one katana, he was leaving with twins. He improvised by wrapping Lightseeker in the scarf he had taken from the coat rack in the frozen Joker's Bar. He closed his cloak to hide the runes. Then, he snapped. Something about it all just got to him.
"Where...was...Talon?!" James suddenly lost control of himself,. "Miles tried to get ahold of him so many times! but did he show? No, instead we've got some geezer running around like Guy Fawkes! Mind you, he had a better chance than any of us for taking down Scorpius and the rest of them. But they got him. Then Chris shows up, and hope returns. But yet again, we are foiled! What's it going to take, Professor? What's it going to take?"
So you could say that James was most definitely NOT alright.bg

"Faith." The low voice had come from behind James, where a Shadow Corridor opened, and Exvind stepped out. He had disappeared with the other Shadows, but had actually stayed. Looking directly at him, it looked as if there were water stains trickling down from his eye. Salt water stains to be truthfull. His arms were tucked behind his back, hidden by his cape. His tone was solemn, and but his posture remained straight and erect.
"Faith, is the only vay to vithstand ze Society of Shadows. As ze saying goes, 'It is alvays darkest, just before dawn.' Ze chaos zat has happened here today, may just be ze beginning. Zere vill be more deaths...more blood...und all ve could do vould be to vatch on, and stay faithfull. Ven zey zink zat zey haf, von...rise, und strike. Feel free to quote me on zat." With those final words, Exvind stepped backwards into the shadows, and disappeared.
