"Stop it!"
The world panned around Shadow's hurried footsteps.
"Leave me alone!"
Flickering gaslights cast a deep sepia glow over the frosted ground, glowing against the snowbanks and throwing every shadow (n.p.i) into a ghastly, terrific shape which wound and choked every passer by. There weren't many. Most had already retreated from the freezing temperatures, hiding from the darkness. The serpent's gaze spun, the streets rushing by faster than he could focus.
"Stop it..."
They were whispering. The light was screaming. The shade was laughing.
Shadow. Help. Stop.
"Don't..."
Shadonious stumbled over a pavement, tripping until he could feel the bricks of a wall between his fingers. His breathing dotted, crashing and choking too heavily for him to calm. Cobalt eyes flickered, trying to focus whilst the world circled faster and faster around him - never resting, ignoring his please.
"I can't... I can't help you..."
His back pressed to the wall, shaky, pale hands reached up to clutch either side of his head; covering his ears. Muttering beneath his breath, the teen shook himself - trying to drown out the whispers, the screaming and the laughing.
"I don't know who you are..."
His heart pounded, struggling to support the aches in his muscles and organs - fighting for enough oxygen for him to process. His hand thumped against the wall. trying to grit his fingernails into the slip and retching rather violently as he clutched his free arm around his waist in protest; pressing his forehead to the wall.
"Just go away..."
Groaning, his eyes watched with discomfort as lamppost nearby seemed to melt and trickle into a sickly pool of black - its light dying and seeping towards him as he slid down the wall.
Shadow.
Shadow help.
Shadow run.
Shadow....
"I...I-"
Sat in a pool of watery colour, was Shadonious Clearwater. Sweat dripped down the side of his face and his body convulsed in the silent shaking of disillusion, hallucination and nerves. Misty blue eyes dimmed milky in the pale light, and long strands of damp hair hung in mess-to-be places.
"Just leave me..."
Blood soaked and burst through the cloth already bandaging his knuckles from the scrapes of brick. His fingertips were rough and untidy with dust, dirt and droplets of crimson life-fluids.
"Stop... I can't hel-"
The world still spun.
The voices continued.
