It had been a very long day. Professor Hawkins had been less than pleased with her latest Charms assignment, Professor Hathaway had sent her out of class as soon as she walked through the door, the brunette had forgotten her DADA homework, and her Potions class had literally gone down the drain, as had all of the girl's energy to even bother trying to correct her mistakes.
After a rather brief dinner that evening, the tension in the girl had risen to a point where if she didn't let it go, something bad would happen in the common room that evening, and at that moment, Charlotte had managed to keep a common room clean sheet for five days, which was something of a record and she wasn't about to let it go now, not if she could help it.
Ignoring any greetings and questions in the common room from the few who weren't in the Feasting Hall, Charl climbed the stairs to her room and pulled open her trunk, allowing a small smile to form on her face. Her broomstick was her pride and joy, and she wasn't one to boast, but her skills in the air had improved a lot since the first game she had played in. Wyl had somehow managed to talk her into it, and from there on, she remained on the team. But even thinking about the sandy haired boy from Magic Horizons kicked her stomach, sending butterflies of confusion through it. How had she let what had happened happen between them? Was there something she could have done to stop it happening? Maybe if she had told him instead of keeping it all bottled up... maybe that would have helped. However, after that incident, Charlotte had found it hard to trust anyone, and besides he would only find her if she told.
Shaking the thoughts out of her head, the slight brunette changed out of her school clothes into some khaki combat trousers and a black short sleeved tee, finishing the outfit with her scruffy trainers and raking her hair back with her fingers into a ponytail. She was ready.
Running down the stairs, with her broom in hand, Charlotte went through the corridors of the school as fast as she could, breathing in the fresh air of the grounds the moment it hit her face. It was amazing just how claustrophobic classrooms with annoyed Professors could be after a whole day, and briefly Charl wondered whether or not she would make it to her final year, let alone pass the exams at the end of this year to make it through to her fourth.
"Stop it. Just take each day as it comes," she muttered, brown eyes squinting against the thought, trying to push it to the back of her mind. Once more ignoring everyone on the way to the Stadium, Charlotte lost herself in her own world, the one deep inside her that noone had managed to crack in to since January. The world that only she knew. Deep inside, the Hufflepuff was lonely, despite being surrounded by those in the school. She missed her twin who had stayed in England, and hadn't seen any of her family since she transferred schools. Wyl, Carmen and others had been left behind, too. Those she considered her Hufflepuff family back at Magic Horizons. Only Forgoil and Kasey had moved across with her, and even they had turned away within the first few weeks.
On reaching the Stadium, however, the young girl broke out of her reverie. The first lot of games were fast approaching, and though her skill with the Quaffle hadn't changed any, her skill on a broom left a lot to be improved on after being common room arrested upon arrival at the school, pretty much.
Mounting her broom, the smile reappeared on her face as she commanded the broom Up and it rose into the skies, taking its passenger along with it. In the sky, nothing could trouble her. She was alone, she was allowed to dream while she was in the sky. Charlotte would practise later, but for the moment, she just needed a release, and being in the air was enough to calm her down to begin with... flying around and practising would only complete the job for her.
Charlotte McCartney was back in her "happy place".
