Skullwhite walked into Diadem for the first time, marveling at it. It was better than he'd anticipated. He flashed his badge at the sphinx and waltzed into the main hall. Scorpius probably wouldn't be too happy about the result of his duel with that insolent Mustang child, but Skullwhite didn't really care. Strange, that the only Shadows the kelpie knew were Evie and Scorpius. Where was Scorpius anyway? Skullwhite wondered vaguely if he'd been killed. To test his theory he shifted to horse-form. Damn, the bridle still wrapped around his nose.
He sensed someone approaching, so he retained his equine appearance. To further the charade of being just a dumb beast he began chewing on a potted plant that occupied one corner. Then he realize how stupid a horse would look standing in a fortress, but by then it was too late.bg
A watery giggling echoed against the walls of the room. "Skullwhite, why are you eating that plant?" The voice asked, dripping with amusement. "Clearly, you've been spending much too much time in that horrible horse form of yours. Besides, I think you're much cuter as a man."
Evilyn appeared from around a corner, drapped in her usual black cloak, sheer enough to allow a breeze through. Not that it mattered to the nymph, her blood was as cold as the Shining river. But there was something different about her as she walked across the room toward the kelpie. Her lips were lacking their pale blue shade, rather, they were tinged pink. She grabbed hold of Skullwhite's bridle, and looked into his eyes. Her own sparkled with mischief. "Hey look, Skullwhite on a leash. Kinky." Her cloak sleeve fell back slightly, revealing a cracked crimson smear of dried blood. She had been in the dungeons.

Skullwhite was pleased to see Evie coming, rather than anyone else. He's probably have to deal with the consequences of his duel later, but for now he preferred to forget about it. He saw the dried blood on her arm and guessed that it wasn't hers. Strange, how different she was from other nymphs he'd known. Most were either the happy-go-lucky mischievous types, or the slightly insane like Ananda, or the ancient and wise type who was predjudiced against mortals. He liked this new attitude, it agreed with him.
He reverted to man-form, but with a collar and leash around his neck since it amused Evilyn so. "At your service." he said with a chuckle. "So, this is your new home-away-from-home? Mind giving me the grand tour?" He pulled a stray leaf out of his mouth and dropped it in the plant's pot.bg
Evilyn grinned as he reverted back to man form with a collar around his neck instead of a bridle. She'd had much experience with what the muggles called leashes, and found them quite a fun little addition to any situation. She gave a few gentle tugs on the soft black velvet lead as she began walking down a corridor.
"What would you like to see? Syrus's Shadow Temple? Unknown's Lair of Serpents, where I have just come from? Or perhaps my little nich of the diadem in the Cubicula Umbrae?" She walked gracefully, with the slightest of movements in her hips as they rounded a corner that took them to two different stairwells, one going up and one going down. "The choice is yours, Skullwhite."

"Aah, Evilyn." A tall figure, not at first likely to even be a student of Firefox University, strided into the entrance hall of the fortress. The black and red robes of the Redeemer swirled behind Muryllis as he walked, tomes and scrolls floating effortlessly over a hand, toward the duo. "I've been meaning to speak with you," he began, first greeting to two. He noted that they were preparing to leave elsewhere in Diadem, and so got to the point. "I've been playing around with some of the magical equipment in the Shadow Temple, and I got the idea to compare the magical properties of the essence of a Nymph to that of a human being. Would you be so kind as to give me one drop of your aquatic form? We humans, however pathetic, do like to feed and nurture our curiosities... "
With that, he flicked his wand to produce a simple crystal vial, which he then added to the floating mass as he awaited an answer. "Speaking of which, how go your interrogations of the prisoner? Is my help needed in any of the more difficult parts?"
Skullwhite felt the soft tug of the velvet as Evie led him to the stairwell. He was just about to answer her question when a mortal boy in red and black robes appeared. The kelpie took this interupption in stride. "An experiment you say? How would you also like a sample of a kelpie's aquatic form too?" He asked, willing to do anything to precipitate Mury's departure.bg
Evilyn watched as the Firefox student approached her, looking very studious indeed. She was suprised by his inquistion. "Compare a human to a nymph? There IS no comparison. Nymphs are creatures of fancy, while humans, as you said, are creatures of curiosity. I suppose I could grant you a drop." The naiad pulled a particularly sharp looking hairpin from the mass of hair pilled on her head. Unceremoniously, she pricked her finger, drawing a clear drop of water. She held her finger over the vial, and it plunked in with an echoing drip sound. "As for the interogations with Hayzie, Unknown and Tobias have taken over that effort. I beleive they mean to trade her for Talon himself."bg

"Intriguing," said Muryllis, smiling with satisfaction when the crystal-clear drop landed in his phial. With all the delicate spellcrafters' trinkets at his disposal, he would have quite a bit of fun experimenting with the essence of a real Nymph. Now, even, that of a kelpie would be in his possession...
'How would you also like a sample of a kelpie's aquatic form too?'
The Redeemer smiled. "Simply marvelous," he observed, conjuring another crystal flask; Evilyn told him of the goings on with the prisoner, and Muryllis was surprised to find out that it was Hayzie who had been kidnapped. "Of the few things I knew of her, I would have thought that she had been much more careful than to be caught by Unknown.. and a switch? This will be interesting, seeing my Headmaster at the mercy of Scorpius." Muryllis, his true allegiance still a mystery even to him, did not refrain from referring to Talon as his superior, even within the halls of Diadem Fortress.
"So then, I still have quite a bit of work to attend to, along with more lessons with Syrus; I'll take that sample from you, Skullwhite, and leave you two alone."
Skullwhite didn't have to cut himself to give the boy a sample of his aquatic self. He simply took the slightly damp end of his long trench coat and wrung it over the flask. About three cups of water poured out before the kelpie could stem the flow. "Sorry about that. I hadn't had a human drowning for so long I'd almost forgotten some of the side affects." Somehow the kelpie couldn't skake the feeling of familiarity he sensed from this boy, but it wasn't like the two had ever met before. He'd think about that later.
He turned back to Evilyn. "I do believe that you were going to show me to your little niche. Shall we proceed?"bg
The nymph couldn't help but emit a small giggle as Skullwhite dreanched Mury's flask with his being. When he was finnished, she held out her arm to him. "Proceed we shall. See you around, Mury."

Quite understanding of the kelpie's 'playfulness', a flick of his wrist caused the flask to spill out the excess of liquid, leaving only the few drops he needed. "Thank you, my good Skullwhite, and you, Evilyne; have a lovely day." With that, the two vials were sealed and added to the floating pile of books and scrolls, perched precariously atop a Libram of Most Certain Doom. Muryllis walked off, subtly adjusting his stride to leave the hall more quickly. He had noticed a strange glint in Skullwhite's eyes...
"The Cubicula Umbrae. Just down these stairs, around a few corners and down a very long hallway. Think you can hoof it?" Evilyn laughed at her own pathetic joke and led the way.
((meet you there))
