Hector had raised his wand three times before Unknown burst into the fortress ruins, but since Radek didn't seem concerned about the others, held his cool.
That was until the shadows came bursting in. Hector immediately began firing killing curses from the wand in his right hand while reaching for the wand between his left thigh and belt. Within only two seconds he was firing curses out of both wands, alternating from one wand to the other after realizing it was impossible for him to fire two unforgivable curses at the exact same time.
The former shadow was entranced. Firing such powerful curses from two wands required a great deal of concentration. He muttered the incatation repeatedly as fast as he could, but it was like a tongue twister, requiring complete focus not to stumble on his syllables, which he did once or twice. Most of the green jets of light missed their marks, though many of the attackers were now dead, which illustrated the fact that it is easier to defend than it is to attack in a battle. But as the struggle went on, Hector began finding it more and more difficult to hit his targets, and he was now having to dodge spells cast by his opponents.
As slight fatigue began to set in, and constantly firing curses became less tactical, Hector fell out of his trance, and began paying more attention to his surroundings. He never noticed Dominique leave, but assumed the explosion and the slight pop he thought he heard meant she had gotten away safely.
Upon seeing Unknown materialize behind Radek, Hector raised his wand once more. Impulsive as he was, Hector did not contemplate the best way to respond, which was fortunate for him, because taking too long to think would allow the guards time to respond. All day, Hector had been using transfiguration during his game, and now it was the first thing on his mind. After a very brief instant following Unknown's shouting of the incantation 'crucio', Unknown's body was replaced with a small, pink pig.
Hector smirked maniacally, enjoying his brief moment of Triumph before he noticed the gargoyles coming toward him. They would have been nothing but dust in seconds, as Hector pointed a wand at each and prepared to cast reducto, but to the former shadow's dismay, both wands flew out of his hands. Hector didn't even have time to reaction. There was a cyclone circling himself and the two gargoyles. He leaped for one of the wands on the ground, but was knocked over by a mass of sand. Panic set in, just as it had when he was nearly killed by a boy in the dungeons of Firefox University. The hit from the sand left him disoriented, not knowing where either unknown's guards or the gargoyles were relative to his own position. Moreover, he had lost both of his wands, and the rucksack he used to carry the dozens of wands he stole during the shadow war was not with him.
He caught site of the hole made by Dominique. He climbed to his feet and stumbled in the direction of the hole, somehow thinking it was his only chance for survival.
