Morgan stared at the broken wand in her hands. It was sad, really, how mangled it was. She gingerly replaced the ash fragments and dryad hair back in the velvet bag, placed the bag in a box of other various things, and put the box in her satchel. That was the wand they'd returned to her after her little broom stunt, and almost immediately after waking she'd placed an order for a new one. To which she got a reply stating that her wandmaker didn't use Dryad Hair anymore, and she'd just have to come in and purchase a wand in person.
So, she had. She pulled the new wand out of her pocket. It felt just as natural, maybe moreso, in her hand as the white ash wand had. It was longer, thirteen inches instead of eleven, and just a bit thicker. It was maple, which made it darker in color than her old wand, and the core was dragon heartstring. It would serve her well, she was sure, but she missed the white ash she'd gotten on her eleventh birthday.
Nevermind, she didn't come here to reminisce. She came here to practice with the new wand.
"Lumos" The wand tip ignighted, just a bit brighter than her old one.
"Nox" It was gone. And much quicker than her other one did it too.
All the spells seemed to work better. Wingardium Leviosa, Accio, Colloportus, Alohomora; even the advanced ones, and wordless spells seemed to work better. Okay, fine, she decided, she'd throw something really advanced at it; she'd cast a patronus. She readied herself for a minute. She was no slouch at DADA, but she wasn't pure genius at it either. She needed a happy memory....
Winning the house cup this year. That should do it. She composed her mind to cast the spell, and wished she had something real to practice on. "Expecto Patronum." Her voice was clear, her mind focused on her happiness. Something silver came from the end of her wand. It had feathers. And a forked tail. It was a...a...swallow? No, it was too big, and it almost looked like Mondleid. An Eagletross? No, Eagletrosses didn't have forked tails. Then she remembered a bird Mondlied had been mistaken for once. A swallow-tailed kite. In her attempt to identify it, she'd lost her happy memory, let go of the spell, and the patronus, whatever it was, had vanished. Oh well.
