It was the early afternoon and the Library was bright, It was the perfect place to sit and read. This was Ravenclaw paradise. Which was one of the Main reason Seth was here.
The dark-haired Ravenclaw sat at a table at one of the far end corners pf the Library. The table he was in the middle of a an extremely unused section of the Library. It seemed to the area was so un popular they had even allowed a large crack too form on the sone wall between some book shelves.
The 4th year sat with three open books, and a box of mini hard ware tools. The tools where definitely an odd sight here, but that wasn't the only thing out of the ordinary. Laying in front of him and Reciving most of the teens attention was a dissected 2-way raidio. and and it's pair. The other walky-talky was still put together he hadn't gotten to that one yet.
Small metal part lat about as he worked with both his wand and the small tools. This was his newest Progect, and probably one of his most complicated. He had already gotten a digital watch, which was currently wrapped around his wrist, and a Muggle radio to work in this magic permeated realm. Now he was trying to get two radios to work and be able to pick up each other signals. So it was a doubled project, and to the Ravenclaw, this was a most fitting challenge.

((Dude, forgive my writing right now, I'm high on sugar and to lazy/insane to write normally. I should be fine in the morning.... if I ever see morning... XP))
Sugar.
It was Felix's friend. His enemy. His secret weapon. His downfall.
The sugar that right now was running through his veins, like Eric Liddell in the 1924 Summer Olympics, was from a deadly combination of a box, or two, of cookies, four lollipops, a couple of the small yellow packets of sugar provided with the coffee he also had, a slice of cake, a ham sandwich, bowl of ice cream, another cookie, three sodas of different varieties, and an assorted bundle of candy.
Realizing how hyper he was, after running up and down the whole entire vast walk up and down all of Firefox Universities stair well four times, Felix decided to race to the Library. He was there in a second as the sugar attacked his poor muscles made him run like a tornado. As he tried to halt at the door his feet would not allow it. As he kept running he finally splated right into a bookshelf and found a pile of books on top of him.
The slight bump on his head, combined with all the running, and the sugar, resulted in Felix falling asleep.
-~-~-~- 30 Minutes Later -~-~-~-
[/i][/center]
Felix woke up.
A slight headache rang in his head. The pulse, slow yet painful. Getting up, the thirteen-year-old looked around at everything, the books, books, books, shelf and more books, and books. Not remembering how he got there, seeing it happened in a blur of him moving, he got up and put away all the books. He knew the spot where everyone of them belonged, seeing that he had read all of them, some twice. After completely the easy task, the headache had almost left Felix’s over crammed head.
Walking, with a slight stumble to his walking, around, Felix saw no booked that interested him seeing that he had read them all. His thoughts were still as if fast forward but he was now moving about the speed of a normal human being of the Homo sapiens scientific categorical species.
Something caught his eye. It was a lone Ravenclaw who looked very much like a friend he had back at home who was a total and complete geek. This boy, roughly fifteen-years-old, was Caucasian, while Felix’s friends was Asian. Seeing the large dilemma, Felix ruled out the option that they were one and the same, like Nietzsche. Wanting to meet someone new, Felix walked, now normally, to where the young man was, and sat down.
“Hi! You new here? I haven’t seen you in any case, unless you have been hiding in your common room since the beginning of the year, which, I don’t doubt, seeing that you like books and they’re rumors that the Ravenclaw Common Room is really a giant Library with no room for beds. Nice to meet you! I’m Felix Genero! Who are you? Have I seen you before?”
All was pretty quiet and Seth was getting along pretty well. He had managed to charge the batteries he already had in the radio, whit magical energy, so that they would provide what the power it needed. Normally batteries only drained the instant they gave power in a magical in environment but with the power of magical electricity, it seemed to work the way it was suppose to.
Anyway he was now at the hard part he had enchanted the necessary parts to protect the Magic/electrical current from being stopped by the magic of the Wizarding world. And now he was stuck. the normal radio he had worked with was simple as their where magiical radios already, but two way radios had to provide and absorb the radio signals. and he was having a hard time getting that to work.
He was just getting into it when his peace was disturbed by a sudden barrage of questioning. He didn't looked up till who ever it was had finished. He looked up and saw the brunet first year standing there wearing Gryffindor robes. "My name is Seth, and I'm not new here I've just been being quiet and minding my own business. And I would probably be better off in the peace and quiet of the common room Now go find some one else to annoy." He said glareing daggers at Felix.
Post by Felix I. Genero on Feb 11, 2008 13:57:17 GMT -5
As Felix waited for Seth's response he noticed all the equipment and books on the table. Recognizing it immediately, for he had tried the same experiments with radios and batteries before, Felix attempted to calm down and be polite so that he could talk to Seth.
"So sorry that I disturbed you Seth. It's nice to meet you." Seeing Seth's glare, Felix thought that it would be best to stop as to not gain another enemy.
Watching as Seth's struggle with the radio, Felix looked over to hear Seth's watch tick slowly in the eerie quiet Library.
"How'd you get your watch going? A timed momentum charm or did you find a way to create a synthetic magical battery by using some magical subsentence to retain artificial electricity and energy? Unless, of course, you found a way to capture and contain electric current from somewhere else an your keeping it together and blocking it from the magic in the University. No, you couldn't have done that, seeing that the amount of magic needed to complete the the spell would destroy the energy completely from pure overpower. Same way electricity doesn't work here. Unless you somehow found a way to create synthetic magical energy all together from scratch which is basically impossible, even with all the mind bending things these wizards have. So, how'd ya do it then?"
goddamn gigantic-ass image resized by orca. you're welcome.
Seth controled himself he wanted to grin and pride at his noticed accomplishment. Not many of the wizards here really cared about the technology of the muggle world. which is probably why there hasn't been any technological revolution in the Magical realm. The magic Seth was doing wasn't even that hard, it was just that no one cared to try.
He listened to Felix's questions. As annoying as the Gryffindor was he couldn't but feel proud of himself at already gotten past all his questions. So he decided to show Felix what had given him his own sudden inspiration. He Poked Felix with a sing finger and felt the charge run through his body. Sudden feel Felix would feel as if he had touch an electrical outlet.
What had just happened is what most would call a defensive shock. There are times when a wizard or witch is restrained and in danger, and they preform magic that can get out of the situation on impulse rather than voluntarily with a wand. One of the classifiable defense was a defensive shock. The the magic forces the brain to send a powerful wave of natural electricity through the blood and cause anyone couching that person to feel the receiving end of it. When Seth found this out he concentrated on recreating it at will and eventually got it to work now he could do it on his own pretty easily.
"Well magical energy and electricity are not as different as you may think. And no wizard had really tried to look into it. So why would you trust the books written on either side. The two worlds are so separated that it's impossible to get any good information on each." Then he slid one of the books he had near him towards Felix. "This is the closest combination of science and magic they got." The book was about muggle artifacts it was at least 50 to 60 years old, and it was written by Arther Weasly.
(Yes I'm assuming he would write abook)

The shock truly shocked Felix, Inside and out. The charge was so inspiring, so energizing, so, electric like, it actually hurt! Staring in amazement as Seth described his findings, Felix was highly interested.
"I read that book before, sparked my interest in the subject. Anyway, I created my own way of harvesting radio waves using magic, seeing that magic messes up signal normally. I thought it was some kind of breakthrough. Here, Mancipo Sanus Aer"
At that, Felix placed his wand flat in the palm of his hand. Turning it with his other hand he soon opened his mouth. The sound from his favorite muggle station emitted from his mouth. Spinning the wand slightly with his thumb the channel changed. Breaking the spell, Felix put his wand away.
Grinning, Felix repeated what he had said about ten times after doing the trick.
"The incantation is literally ‘catch sound air’. I have found ways to capture radio waves with magic. Now, electricity doesn't work in Firefox, but radio waves do! Now, it is like a magical interceptor of muggle radio waves that are in the air. The muggle signals are normally lost through all the magic, but countering it with a spell it becomes workable. Anyway, this is now only useful for listening for songs, but hypothetically, if I could only get some kind of mike that only transmits a weak signal then we could capture them with our wands and..."
Felix paused. He was giving away all his secrets in the name of science. His hope was going to be given away by his big mouth just because someone else also had an interest in the subject.

He grinned, he could tell what Felix was thinking. Well if you wanted to comunicate with outher oraor sliten in on conversations with out being any where near the speakers. Then what I'm working on here is exactly looking for." He couldn't tell if Felix was mugle born or not. but he seemed smart about both worlds. A little like himself. "Well their are Magical radios. And that's probably the reason why regular radio waves to don't flow well in the magical realm."
He thought about what Felix showed him. So he decided to explain his own devices. "The watch was easy all it needed was a magical spark and it started ticking away. And it happened by accident. At my last school I was cornered by some Slytherin 6th years and well let just say the Slytherins their are a bit meaner than the ones here. Well, when I shocked them the decided on to bother me and When I looked at my watch it was ticking." He explained.
Then he looked ath thr Radios in front of him. He pick up the one that was put together. "This is a two way radio. Some muggles call it a walky-talky. When you press the the button it emits a private radio signal and and a second radio just like this one picks up the signal. And if you talk into the Mic. it sends tyour voice with that wave. and when the other radio picks up the signal they hear your voice through the speaker, and the can do the same with their own. And because of this the two people can be apart yet still comunicate. But I'm having a problem with getting the signal to Flow with the Magical signal. Can you turn what you just did into an enchantment? He asked wonder if he might beable to use it.

"The way my spell works is like a magical radio. It uses magic to catch the radio waves in the air and it uses my own vocal cords as a speaker. Meaning that the spell adapt to its devices available. Here, you mind if I take one of these apart?"
Not waiting for an answer, Felix grabbed the walkie-talkie, screwdriver, wand, and a bunch of wire. Taking apart the Walkie-talkie, Felix removed the speaker and mike. Taking a long piece of wire, Felix wrapped it as a spiral down his wand with room to spare. Sticking the extra into the air, Felix attached both the wires from the mike and radio to the wires other end.
"Do the same to yours while I explain: Now that wand has a way to transmit and receive information via the speaker and mike. Our signals are weak but the extra antenna length should help. Now do the same thing to your wand. If I'm correct, a common spell incantation part word, something I've been studying, for the word 'transmit' or 'throw' is 'Conicio'. The only way that we can use a single transmitting device to have double purpose is if we modify the spell each time. As in, you start by saying 'Sanus Aer', 'Sound Air' and then 'Mancipo' 'Catch' and 'Conicio', 'Throw' each time to convert the spell. It should result in the high magical base of our wands are strong enough to use the wire, and other implement to work as a Walkie-Talkie! It'll be like playing catch with our wands and converted sound to radio waves! You start..."

Seth waited patient;y though it wasn't an easy task. He could see a big flaw in this plan of his. "Well, their is a problem. If we have to say the incantation every time we want to transmit and receive. Then the receiver would need to be close enough to hear the sender. Which illuminates the purpose of this device all together. Also, unless you want to levitate all the pieces around, it is no longer really mobile. If we had something to absorb the in catation so it could provide..." He stopped He had his solution but it was not simple.
"Gems. Gems absorb spells and can retransmit them. All it would need is to be transmitted to the antenna. But we would need two one to sent one to receive. In each walky." He was only thinking out loud because he had an audience that could appreciate it. However now he had a different problem, "Where the heck are we going to get a precious gem strong enough to hold such a complicated spell?" The think was the higher the price of the gem the better it was at conducting and holding magic, but may be this spell was less complicated than he thought.
(Yea this is an assumption inspired by another book. *may have to clear it with the mods if we want to use it.)

Seth was smart, in this aspect maybe smarter then Felix. It was a surprise, seeing that Felix normally was smarter at subjects that was more complicated then your average spell. He was even slightly embarrassed that he hadn't seen the flaw. They're was always a catch.
"Who says that we need to get gems that are that strong to start out with? We can just get our hands on some normal gems without much power and, you know, charm an' enchant them to be more powerful. In any case, even if we did have such powerful gems, the 'boundaries' that allows the spells to be stored would have to have a fault for the spells to enter and exit. Seeing that a gem strong enough would be flawless we need to start with a normal gem to start with. So, got gems?"
goddamn gigantic-ass image resized by orca. you're welcome.
"No unfortunately I don't. And I doubt Drakborough is big enough to afford a jewelry shop. You know any competent Rock collectors?" He asked a little amused. Quarts as pretty common and might work well enough for what they wanted. But they still needed to find some one who would provide the crystal. To bad it was against the law to use transmutation to make gems. There was always the School hour gladded but he wasn't into theft nor was he confident the the glass wasn't unbreakable.
He pointed his wand at his Walk and said "Reparo." The Walky began remaking itself, and in afew moment it was back together in one piece. "Now I know what I deed, not to figure out how to get it." He said using raparo on the other walky.

"Wait..."
Felix paused. He had a plan.
"...Every heard of crystal radios? It's a muggle toy, I use to love them. I can't believe I had forgotten! It's a is a very simple kind of radio receiver. It needs no battery or power source except the power received from radio waves by a antenna of sorts. All you need is a antenna wire, coil of copper wire, crystal detector and some kind of speaker. A crystal detector is also called a Cat's-whisker detector. It's a thin wire that lightly touches a semiconducting crystal. The crystal picks up the radio waves with the antenna which is then is amplified and, well, decoded by the copper wire which sends the signal to your speaker. It's perfect! As long as we use magic to reverse the process then, using your sparking spell, we can turn our voice into a small long-wave radio signal. It will in turn be compresses with the coil, transformed by the Cat's-whisker, and broadcast to another one of these with the antenna! It has barely worked with muggles because of there limitations, but now, with a little magic, it should work wonderfully, and we can reverse the process to work as a transmitting device! Now, I can grow two small compact crystals in about a week, I have extra wire I collect, both a thin whisker wire and copper coils and antenna wire. I'll stick it all together is some surreptitious manner, like a match box, and it'll be done!"
goddamn gigantic-ass image resized by orca. you're welcome.
Seth had to think about that for a second, "Are you talking about fiber optics? If so We need to find a way to combine that with Electrical wires. We could technically make an all magic one but it wouldn't last as long, and would be far less durable. If it's going to work soundly you need to use both electricity and magic." He said.
"And theres also the problem of finding fiber optic wire. They won't be selling here in the wizarding world. The magical realm hasn't advance as far as making crystal wire. Either way wee still need Gems to keep the enchantments separated, or else the spells will cancel each other out." He added. And he began noticing how strange it was to be talking about Magic in a scientific fashion.
Post by Felix I. Genero on Feb 12, 2008 12:07:29 GMT -5
"No, no, no! Not fiber optics! We don't need anything like that, or the gems. This thing will work! Without anything else! I have the ingredients to grow the crystals, tell me you've done it before, and a lot of wire. We don't need anything else! That's the problem with you Ravenclaws, nothing can be simple! It's all solved! The solution was right in front of my eyes, I just didn't see it! A muggle contraption will save the day. Why can't wizards explore the basic science and technology these days! I mean, computers are amazing, one thing I miss most about being back with muggles."
goddamn gigantic-ass image resized by orca. you're welcome.
"But grown crystals are extremely brittle. You drop the walky one time and the crystals will shatter and then they loose their spell. And they have a very small capacity for magic. so is we try making them unbreakable then there will be no room for the spell we need." he explain.e he knew all about growning Crystal and the ones that where good for magic can not be produced that easily.
"As for missing computers. I have a Laptop I'm working on in my dorm, but that's far from being completed. If I can get that finished before the end of my seventh year it will be a miracle. Still do you have any other Ideas? We don't need big gems we just need the right type." He added
