Walking into the library and staring at all the books, Echo smiled and wondered exactly how many she had read. Too many too count, she thought as she looked down to see a silver tabby kitten rubbing up against her jeans. Bending down to pick up the cat, Echo kissed his head.
"How in the world did you get out of the common room, Kova?" She asked the small kitten. Unable to stop smiling, Echo carried him deeper into the library with her. As she wandered in and out of the aisles, she felt suddenly lonely. Sure, she had friends, but some of her main ones had left to do other things or go to other schools, and she had been left here. She felt like a piece of her was missing and, for the umpteenth time that day, wished her older brother was there with her. Sure, most girls didn't rely on their elder brother for companionship, but the two had always been very close and he had moved out of the house over the summer, so she hadn't got to see much of him.
Picking a book off the shelves, Echo sighed. "Witch's Cures for Depression, just what I need, huh Kova?" she said with a small grin the bordered on being pathetic. The kitten mewed in reply, and hopped out of the young woman's arms to begin wandering in and out of the books on the shelves. Out of curiosity, Echo stood in the aisle and began paging though the book.
Some of the remedies seemed like useful ideas, but she felt silly to even be looking at the book, so she would have felt absolutely ridiculous to actually try out anything it said. What happened to the strong, confident girl I know I am? she wondered as she continued leafing through the book. As she did so, a blond curl fell forward and Echo- out of habit- began twirling it with one of her fingers. If anyone comes along, they'll think I'm pathetic, she thought with another small grin.
