When you hit Rock Bottom you have two ways to go,
Straight up . . . and sideways
I have seen my share of hard times and I am letting you know,
Straight up . . . is my way.
Ashelle sat in the library listening to a small crystal ball she held in her robe pocket, charmed especially so that only it's possessor could hear it, thus not disturbing the Librarian or the other students. She'd been sitting at the desk writing all manner of letters to her Grand, to the Ministry . . . she's even begun one to Azrael her distant and egotistical Master. However the song had distracted her and as she listened to the words it began to sink in just want kind of situation she'd gotten herself into.
Things are tough all over, but I got good news
when you get down to nothing you got nothing to lose
I was born naked but I'm glory bound
and a dead end street is just a place to turn around
Yeah, nothing to lose, ha! I have lost everything and I still have stuff to lose, like my life and Marc's . . . and Malachy's if he knew. One of my names may be Gloria but I am beginning to wonder if maybe . . . maybe Fate is out to get me. Perhaps the Curse of the Rainiers was finally catching up to her? Sometimes it seemed like it had been just waiting for her luck to run out. Perhaps a dead end street was a place to turn around . . . but somehow it felt like she was in a hole and someone was about to bury her alive.
When the sky is the limit, up on Easy Street
Rock Bottom ain't no place to be
Rock Bottom ain't no place for me, no no
Easy Street . . . I thought I was there when I came to MH but I am still not there even now that I have the O'Conners by my side. The song was right about one thing Rock Bottom was no place for her . . it was no place for anyone. But how to get out? Where was the straight up path . . . if it existed? Ashelle put her head down on the desk and sighed. Right now she needed an angel, or better yet ten thousand angels, to help her find they way outta this colossal mess.
