4:20 Earlier In the Common Room
Rioku pulled her nightshirt off, then pulled a strapless, short, dark blue top on, which was more like a bra than anything. Her night bottoms were replaced by loose, black pants and her socks by bare feet. She ran a brush through her short, dark-brown hair and braided the two front locks, like always. Her trademark sash was left hanging loosely around her shoulders.
Shade raised his head sleepily from the folds of her bedspread, yawned, and set his head on his black paws, one ear twitching as he watched her dress.
"Come on, Nite," Rioku hissed, glancing at her fellow Slytherins while pulling on her school robe. They were all fast asleep. The fruit bat stretched and flew after her to hang on her sleeve, and Shade lept off the bed to trot groggily after them.
4:40
Her eyes were almost black with concentration. Hand, hand. The blood rushed to her face as she walked on her hands. One step, two step. The uneven stone bricks beneath her hands made it harder than usual, but Rioku liked the challenge. Shade the young fox rushed forward to land on her back as she came down, and he dropped to the ground as she landed upright.
"Good boy," she whispered, tossing him a biscuit, which the todd crunched up happily, his ears flicking eagerly. "Let's run the whole thing."
Ravenwood Tower, Rioku had discovered, was almost always deserted in the early hours. The perfect place to practice her routine. Landing on her feet once more, the sash whipping around her, Rioku looked out the window. Father would love to paint this, she thought. I'll have to send him pictures.
Rioku picked up a sheath from the ground by the east wall, and drew the katana from within, running the tip of her silver beech wand down it's length. The metal flared a blue white color, and embers sprang up along it's length.
"Ok, Aconite," she murmured. The bat raced towards her. The whole routine was timed, if anyone was off, Rioku made sure it was she who got hurt and not her companions. She flicked the blade towards the bat, who dodged with practiced ease and flitted towards her face. She dropped to the ground and flicked out, skimming the ground where Shade had stood before. He landed back on his paws, watching her with amber eyes.
