More than one fire had definitely been extinguished that evening. Back at the lake, Charlotte had started off as a snapping, sarcastic girl. But, as she walked through the doors to the Hospital Wing, following Professor Hawkins and Roan, there wasn't even a shadow of that girl there. Damp tear stains traced the brunette's pale cheeks, with more welling up in scared brown eyes. Tiny hiccups still shook her slight figure and even her posture wasn't as confident as normal.
Watching as Professor Hawkins laid her Prefect on one of the beds, Charlotte sat on the edge of the next one along, looking down at the clean, hospital floor and letting her hair cover her face. "I-I'm so, so so-sorry," the Hufflepuff whispered, playing with the bottom of her tee-shirt.
It shouldn't have happened in the first place, and now Roan was really hurt, and the Professors had had to come and bail them out, again. Maybe she owed Professor Hawkins a 'thank you' card of sorts. "You-you shouldn't have come out," Charlotte squeaked, squeezing her eyes shut behind the curtain of hair. "I cou-could have deal-dealt with it."
Charlotte, at that moment, felt weak and vulnerable, and above all scared. Her fire had definitely been extinguished.
The journey to the Hospital Wing had been painful, but then…when was it ever not. Of course the main part of her injuries had to be breaks and stuff that with even the slightest bit of movement there was pain, so she had bit her lip and gotten on with it most of the way until they were finally into the school and into the Wing itself. Professor Hawkins, they owed him another one because without him both girls would probably be in danger by the River still...in different ways. She was set down on a bed with a wince as her broken pelvis and arm/shoulder were jarred, and Roan had to groan and grit her teeth to fight against the pain. She wasn’t weak. Her enemies could call her many things, but one thing they could not call her was weak.
Mostly she had kept a strong face for the other Hufflepuff who seemed to be in a total state of disarray, but as soon as Anil had gotten there she dropped her defenses and allowed herself to just let her pain wash over her rather then gritting and fighting it back. It appeared she had done so too soon, because she glanced over at the younger girl and Charlotte seemed defeated and dimmed. Roan tried to ignore everything and reached out with her good hand, quelling down shaking, and wrapped it around one of Charlotte’s smaller ones.
“Hey…hey…” She said in a soothing voice like a mother would, pity welling up in her heart. “Don’t say that Charlotte, don’t say that. I wasn’t about to let you get hurt, as much as a pain in the behind you may be.” She said that with a light inflection to her voice to try and bring some good mood to this, even if it was impossible. Lightly the Prefect pulled on the girl’s wrist so that she could use her one good arm to pull Charlotte over into a light hug, all the girl could manage with the nausea in her stomach. “Everything is going to be alright Charlotte. Don’t cry, alright? You are safe here now.”
Hopefully she was safe here now. Roan felt so bad for the girl, and wished she could have done more for her. But in her current state she couldn’t even leave the bed she was lying in. And Professor Hawkins probably wasn’t going to be able to do much good for the panicky girl…maybe they needed someone with a gentler touch. All she could do for now was try and sooth Charlotte until any help came.

For all her fire and brimstone, Roan Aliagh had a surprisingly light frame. For all her bark and bite, she was still a young girl. For all her stubborn mule-headedness she could still give in to pain. Anil had tried his best not to jar her too much as he carried her to the Hospital Wing, but he couldn’t do much more than that. The flame-haired man laid her down as gently as possible on one of the stark white hospital beds. He could do nothing else for her. She was in the nurse’s hands now.
Turning, he found Charlotte standing in front of him, wringing the end of her shirt. Her posture suggested she wanted to say something, but she seemed to be stumbling over the words. "You-you shouldn't have come out." The words came without conviction. "I cou-could have deal-dealt with it." Several responses emerged in Anil’s mind. He shouldn’t have come out? What a joke. He had gone to lecture her for being out after hours. He had hardly meant to involve himself in the two girls’ rescue, and if Charlotte could have “dealt” with it, things hardly would have turned out this way. Anil remained silent, responding only with a stony look. Occasionally, he did know when not to speak. Passing the younger girl on his way out to the door, he made a mental note to check in on them later.
Fuu was finishing up with her usual tedious paper. Since things calmed now and school had started Fuu could sense the order in the air. But that always lead to paper work. Whether she did it by hand or used magic it always seemed to take forever. She sat quietly in Kasey's office when she heard foot steps and talking...and crying. Fuu couldn't help but feel bad every time someone cried. When someone was sad or in pain Fuu felt it almost equally. A terrible bother sometimes.
She sat of from the desk and headed out the door into the main area. The weather had been alright so all the windows were open leaving a fresh scent all around the room. After a moment she figured out who was there and why. Her classmates Roan and Charlotte. Along with them was professor Hawkins. Charlotte was crying and Fuu immediately felt sad as well. Fuu had never seen Charlotte cry. She watched a Roan to a shaky seat. Fuu could tell but something was broken. Most likely the legs but she had to be sure. Before heading toward the group she stopped at the supply cabinet. Fuu took out big bottle and used her wand to summon a glass. She poured the contents into the glass. It was a semi clear liquid with steam rolling over the top. Then she grabbed a small vile of instant pain killer and stuffed it into the pocket of her rose colored scrubs.
She locked the cabinet and walked to the three. She stopped with in the group and smiled at Roan. "Your legs are broken?", she asked. "Or is it your hips? I could check unless you know for sure.", she said after closer observation. She still held the glass of Skele-gro in her hand as she continued to look the prefect over. "Your shoulder too? What happened to you Roan?". she asked anybody willing to answer.

“Everything is going to be alright Charlotte. Don’t cry, alright? You are safe here now.”
Was she safe, though? How often had the Hospital Wing been attacked by creatures in the past? And with him still in the grounds, who knew what would happen next? One thing was for certain, Charlotte definitely didn't. As Roan brought her into a light hug, Charl shook her head and moved back to the other bed, bringing her feet up and hugging her knees.
Then, Professor Hawkins left, and a nurse arrived, attending to Roan straight away. She would be fine, the younger girl knew it. Much worse had happened to the Prefect before, broken bones would be a doddle. Though, it was no excuse for how it had all happened. Was this her punishment for skipping cerfew so many times? Was this what it had all boiled down to?
Breathing a shaky sigh, brown eyes looked over at her Prefect, wondering what she would say in reply to the nurse's question.
Roan sighed as she felt Charlotte pull back, apparently that had been a bad idea from the start. But Fuu was here now and she turned her attention to the Slytherin nurse with a small and shaky smile, trying not to worry about the poor girl next to her as much, though that was virtually impossible. “Not my legs, more like my pelvis…” She said resting a hand lightly on where the bone had been broken and wincing after even the lightest contact. “Seems like a demon didn’t like how that bone was shaped.” Roan said with a painful chuckle, trying to keep the mood from turning towards depressing.
The pelvis wasn’t the one that hurt the most, it was more her arm and shoulder that had been wrenched in the opposite direction. Eurus had taken the pleasure in turning her limb around and around and probably tore any muscle and ligament there was in that arm, plus broken bones of course. But that was what nurses were for! “But if you don’t mind Miss…can you tend to Charlotte first…I can deal with pain. Heck, I have been doing it for over a year now. I don’t know how many times this arm has been broken.” She said with another small smile, turning hazel eyes towards Charlotte.
“Hey kiddo, why don’t you get yourself fixed up and go and find Forgoil or someone. This isn’t the best place for you if you want to get some rest. Tonight was a rough night.” Roan said in careful tones, resting her head deeper into her pillow. “You deserve it, trust me.” She added, genuinely worried about her. This was not the Charlotte she knew.

((Here you go, as promised! I didn't really know what you were thinking of, so let me know if I need to change anything!))
Was the patrolling the school as her duties as Prefect required her to, or was she using the excuse to go for a walk? Either way, Aednat Meagher was near the Hospital Wing as Professor Hawkins left it, her light footsteps more or less soundless as she moved. Aednat had taken more than one stroll past curfew the year before, without having permission to do so, but this time she didn’t need to hide away and stick to darker, less busy corridors, for being Prefect was the perfect excuse for her wanderings. The truth was that she was simply a night person, and still had plenty of energy long after her companions needed to retire to their respective houses, common rooms, and beds. This year she needn’t shy away from professors should she happen upon them. But Aednat passed the Hospital Wing when Professor Hawkins was inside, and didn’t see him. And it wasn’t until she was passing back, and he had left, that she entered the scene in the hospital wing. Her excuse was not even needed, for all the senior staff she saw.
The brunette had been about to pass the Wing again without second thought, as she had not a few minutes previously, when the peculiarity of the level of activity in the Hospital Wing struck her. At this time, there shouldn’t really have been a buzz of talking and movement coming from behind those doors, should there? Even nurses on their night rounds would be quieter unless a new situation arose, and that must have been the cause of the low hum now seeping out into the corridor. Setting a small hand on the door, she pushed and it swung open quietly just in time to hear the end of what Roan said. “…some rest. Tonight was a rough night …You deserve it, trust me.” Now with some extra purpose and speed in her step, she entered the room, serious concern and worry etched suddenly on her features where only a smaller measure of concern and a rather larger one of confusion had been before.
She didn’t know if she could be of any help. But it was possible, and either way, she needed to see if Roan was okay. She’d recognised the Hufflepuff’s voice straight away. Little did she know that Roan wasn’t the one in need of the most help she could offer that night. Roan’s physical injuries were worse and more worrying, but as for those, Aednat would be no use and didn’t need to be. Fuu had it under control, it seemed – or more than the Irish girl would have done at any rate. She had just noticed the Slytherin there with her potions and scrubs and had nodded at her. But it wasn’t to Fuu or even to the injured Roan that her eyes were drawn, although she did shoot a look of acknowledgement at the older ‘Puff, one of friendship and sympathy and concern. Charlotte, however much she seemed to want to be drawn into herself, was the person who was drawing Aednat’s attention the most. Behind her blue eyes a horror played, for she knew something awful must have happened to reduce Charlotte to the state she was quite clearly in, even after looking at her for just a second. Despite knowing that, Aednat couldn’t have guessed just how bad it had been. She just knew that, if she could help here at all in what was seemingly a very bad situation, most likely it would be Charlotte she could help. Moving to the bed on which her younger friend sat, huddled, hugging her knees, Aednat picked out the only thing she could think to ask from the million warnings that screamed in her head. “Are you okay?”
Thanks Hayz! ^_^
