There had been many realizations since Roan's return from Diadem, and not all of them had been pleasant. In fact, some of them had been rather painful. This one though, was a good one, even if she was a bit afraid to take it on. She had been out of bed for a short while, a few days, though it had been a full week since she had been found out by the Great Gate, having been sent back from Diadem and Syrus's torturous ways. Since then, anger had become a path that Roan was now taking, since she had been through yet another travesty, she had decided that she would use the anger and hatred she felt for her new enemies to work it against them and beat them. The Hufflepuff had sworn in blood that she would see Fenris Fenrir and Syrus Korodin to justice, even if it meant sacraficing her own life to see it done. Every wrong needed to be righted, and nobody was going to do this but her.
There was one small problem though, one that even Roan could not ignore. She simply was not powerful enough to take on either Syrus or Fenris in combat, she would be decimated, and in the case of Syrus, either killed or carted back off to his little loony house where more torture would await her because the girl didnt know how to keep her mouth shut when it was important. No, that would not be her path, because the man knew how to break her down to the point she begged for mercy, and that was not pleasant at all for the strong willed girl. So she wasnt strong enough, but how to get stronger? Roan was already looking up people who could teach her some hand-to-hand combat, and then weapons, to no avail, but even weapons wouldnt help her when it came to Syrus and Fenris. Her own magic was not strong enough to fight them, and it relied on her wand. As soon as that was removed from her persons, she was defenseless except for knowing where a few joints shouldnt bend and a couple of pressure points. There had to be something she could to do make herself ready to take on these entities.
And the answer was simple, but hard.
A while ago, on the day that Fenris Fenrir had first attacked her to be exact, Roan had been reading a book about a special art of elementalism. It was an intruiging thing that the girl thought about often, but never really considered for herself. But now it became a possibility. This magic didnt require the use of her wand, and so she would have it in case of an emergency, and also to use if she got good enough at it. And it wasnt like there wasnt an element Roan could connect to and find, it was always there with her. Both blessing and burden. Fire, a constant flame burned in the heart of the girl. The same fire that caused her to insult Syrus in Diadem, no matter the cost, and the same fire he couldnt put out. The fire that made her ambitious, and drawn to combat, and the fire that made her never give up. She had always referenced it as her fire, but what if she could really connect to the element of fire, and use that to her advantage in combat, rather then a few emotionally enhanced flame spells that she shot from her wand.
There was a small problem though with all of this. While Roan's specialty was fire itself when it came to combat, she feared the element above most things. To have it come in contact with her flesh was a nightmare, and it had happened before. When fear came to mind she could smell the smoke from flames rising into her nose and down into her throat and suffocating her, she could feel the heat on her bare skin as it ate away, leaving a rotting and burning smell in its wake. It was horrible, and yet Roan used those spells more often then any others in combat. If she were to learn to be a Fire Elementalist, then she would have to learn to conquer her fear of this, and she would need to learn it fast. But right now, the stakes of being able to fight and live through an attack by Syrus, and challenge the Great Wolf, those were far better then what her fear of the fire itself told her. Fear was conquerable, and Roan would do it.
She was walking lightly down the halls of Firefox, her boots making no noise on the ground, and her black robes doing the same. Long brown hair tumbled down her back, bouncing with each step. Her robes, as mentioned, were a deep raven black, and held to her form, cut off at the sleeves. A bracer was on her right arm that emitted a constant chill, black leather stitched with white threads. The Prefects badge gleamed on her chest, bearing signs of being newly polished. The girl looked far from one though who would be on a morning stroll through the halls of the school. Hazel eyes that were shadowed more these days, though most of her anger was surpressed at the moment, were cast towards the ground, and her face bore very obvious signs of sleep loss and that something was wrong. It was drawn and it was seriousness, and when the girl would speak, even her voice bore that trace of her previous kidnapping, the pain that resided now in her form, not physical, mental and emotional.
The Prefect approached a large red Phoenix that marked the door to the Headmaster's Office and stood in front of it for a moment. She had been here before, this wasnt her first trip. When she first met Talon Windwaltz, their Headmaster, in the Dungeons, he had been sparking all over the place, and looked like a human lightening rod. When Roan finally decided that yes, she wanted to learn how to be a fire elementalist, she needed to find someone to teach her, and it became quite clear. Talon hadnt been using a wand that day down in the dungeons, that lightening had been the result of being an elementalist, which also meant that Headmaster Windwaltz was powerful if he was managing lightening, which was a higher teired element. Roan debated for a while if a Lightening Elementalist could teach someone to be a Fire Elementalist, and if Talon would even teach her, but in the end she decided it was worth a shot, if it would help her fight. So that is why Roan was there.
Putting her hands at her side to make sure she wasnt carrying her dagger, she wasnt sure the Headmaster would like it, Roan took a deep breath, showing a few nerves, before trying to put a normal face on again and stepping forward. The Phoenix let her pass, and with her chin up and hands by her side, trying to look like she was normal and that her stay in Diadem hadnt affected her, the girl entered the Headmaster's Office. It was the same as before, with the desk before the fireplace. Roan stopped before it and took another breath before speaking. "Headmaster Windwaltz, may I have a word?"
