Finding the central stairway was easy enouhg, even for Arc. Just like he had expected, it turned out eventually in a long hallway lined with pictures of former headmasters and headmistresses. He had never actually been to Headmaster Windwaltzs office befopre, so he was relying on some information given to him by a random student he had asked.
'find the corridor lined with former headmasters and headmistresses, a tthe end there will be a ruby statue of a phoenix. You need to prove your bravery to it, as Windwaltz only sees those who have true strength. Challenge it to a duel. If you win, it will let you pass.'
There. Now he faced the statue. Holding his wand in front of him, he looked it in the eyes and said "I, Arcturus Ashmore, challenge you to a duel for entrance into Headmater Windwaltz's office!"
After a short while of standing there with nothing really happening, Arc began to feel a bit foolish. He believed that this was the only logical place for the headmaster's pffice. yet didn't know how to get in yet.
Being a Ravenclaw, he knew only one thing. He only had to use his head and all problems would be solved. "HIYAAAAAAH!" He shouted, ramming headfirst into the ruby phoenix statue.
Falling on his rear, he looked dazedly at the statues to see if any of the three had decided to show him the entrance to the headmasters office.
Waiting for a few moments more, noting that, while the phoenixes didn't move out of his way, they had been at least kind enough to eventually move back into being only a single statue.
Head still pounding from pain, he instead tried a new tactic. "HIYAH!" he shouted again, thwacking the statue firmly on the head with his staff.
"Okay............." Arc said, still being persistant and not doing what most more reasonable people would do and finding out from a reliable source how to get in. Standing beside the statue, he threw his weight against it, attempting to push it out of his way.
"Fine! Have it your way! I'm the king here!" he shouted at the statue, aiming his staff at it's head.
"Redugto!" he proclaimed. The result from his mispronounced spell was a loud bang, which knocked him firmly onto his rump. Once again slightly dazed from his own actions, he looked to see if his spell had actually done anything at all.

A few more admissions letters had been sent to him after arriving at the school by Owl, but for the most part the paperwork that Talon had for many months slaved over and tried to complete had calmed down immensely. The Headmaster liked this very much - it gave him time to do things like relax in his chair and read the sequel to the romance novel '10 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Veela,' which was called 'Love after Veela.'
Guilty pleasures were always the best.
As Talon turned the page of his book, he heard a great deal of commotion outside his door. It came at first like the sound of shouting, but that faded away quickly and the Headmaster resumed reading. Then came a rather strange noise that sounded like someone slamming into his Phoenix. Talon continued reading, shaking his head and wondering why he was imagining strange noises.
Then came the loudest noise of all, which sounded like an explosion. Talon stood up quickly, reaching into his robes for his wand, and quickly side-stepping his desk and walking down his purple carpet with caution...perhaps he hadn't been ignoring the noises - perhaps someone was trying to force their way into his Office.
The Headmaster tapped his door twice with his wand.
***** The Phoenix Statue sprung to life, looking down at Arc with its beady bird eye before moving aside for the door behind it - a wooden structure that stood as the gateway to Talon's office - to open. The Headmaster jumped from within, pointing his wand forward to whatever was outside...and found Arc lying on his posterior looking up. The blonde wizard, a young man in his early twenties, wearing a long purple robe with a silver medallion with the insignia of Fire on it, looked down at the Ravenclaw incredulously.
"Were you the one trying to break into my office?"
Arc had just pulled out his pet puffskein from a pocket in his robes and was taking aim from his position on the floor, seeming almost to think that it would succeed where he had thus far failed, when the statue stepped aside.
"Aha! Showed you who's boss!" he cried as it moved. Clearly he ahd done something right somewhere along the line.
"Break into your office?" Arc asked, glaring at the Headmaster, who didn't seem at all pleased that Arc had found a way to get past his statue, "It was all legit, I swear! But, well, while you're here, I had hoped to ask you if I couldn't get your permission to intern in the 'Department for the Control and Regulation of Magical Creatures'. I figured your permission would be my best card to getting a job."

For a moment Talon just gazed dumbstruck at the boy's response to his accusation. Then the Headmaster glanced between Arc and the Phoenix Statue, which 'bird-shrugged' in response. Finally, he turned his head back to face the boy and sighed. "For future reference," he said sternly, "to get into my Office you simply have to greet the statue nicely. Well come on, get up, get in." He motioned to the Ravenclaw to follow him in.
Walking back into his office, the Headmaster moved behind his desk and collapsed into his leather chair. "Magical Creatures, hmm?" He said conversationally, before pulling a drawer of his desk out and reaching inside for a permission slip. Instead of the form, however, he had found a letter he had read earlier that morning...something rather surprising. "Oh, right..." Talon muttered to himself, and then looked back to Arc, "I believe Julius Plutus mentioned something to me about that department...I don't believe it's under the direct control of the Ministry any longer."
He supported his chin with his finger, in a thinking position. "So then...would you rather intern for another department?"
"The statue was the one who opened hostilities." Arc replied flatly to the knowledge of how to get into the office.
Foolowing Talon into his office, pocketing his puffskein as he did so, he occupied his time looking around at the objects Talon kept inside, giving what he was saying only half an ear's worth of attention. That is, until he realized that his request was being denied.
"WHAT?!" Arc exclaimed. "I......don't understand. Why wouldn't a ministry department be under control of the ministry? I don't want anywhere else......nowhere else is any fun."
