As he made his way towards Headmaster Talon's office, he reminded himself what he was there to do. "I must ask for an internship at the Ministry, then scram!" this he thought to himself, chuckling. Ever since his father had taken him to the Ministry, he had wanted to work as an Auror forever.
Arriving at the staircase leading to the Headmaster's office, he asked for passage through the door. In the meantime, he would wait for the headmaster to let him in. If this all worked out, he had his future ahead of him, right where he wanted it. On a nice, pretty, silver platter...
(( Sorry for the short post, it's late...))

It had been a few hours since Jeremy had left Talon's office asking him to sign his permission slip to the Ministry, and the Headmaster had found he had run out of paperwork. Talon was shocked at the sight, but it was true. He had done so much filler paperwork in all of his Office threads that he had actually run out of work to do. No more profiles, no more transcripts, nothing.
He gave himself the chance to sit back in his chair and fold his arms behind his head. It was getting rather late, he thought. Maybe he would transfigure the Office early tonight, lock the doors and get some well-needed rest. Goodness knows he needed it, considering how exhausted he seemed to perpetually be. Well, then came the knock on the door, distracting him from his thoughts of how to spend the rest of the day.
"Hmm?" Talon said, sitting back up and leaning over his desk, "You can come in."

Hearing the Headmaster tell him to come in, Conor fixed a smile on his face and rushed into the room. It was a very nice room, at that. The only room that he had ever seen before that was nicer andmore lavishly decorated than this one was his father's study. He had not liked his father, he punished him with dark magic, and he was forever scarred by his atrocity. His father was not a nice man. A dark wizard, he was cruel. But eventually, he realized the mistakes he had made in past life and turned to a new life.
Shaking the thoughts of his past from his head, he continued gazing at the clean desk. Apparently, Headmaster Windwaltz was a very hard worker. Ever since the dance, Conor had been gloomy. Not much had been going on, and his parents hadn't written to him.
Suddenly, a thought came to him. Were his parents in trouble? "No." He thought. His parents were well learned wizards. Erasing all thought from his mind, he sat down in an armchair and spoke.
"Nice to see you, Proffesor. If I may, I have a favour to ask of you. I would like you to sign a permission slip allowing me to intern with the Aurors." His lip trembling, he stopped. He was hoping for the best. What would the Headmaster do?

Since Talon was relatively comfortable today, he took his time in allowing the boy to sit down and speak to him. Whether the boy sat there admiring his artifacts and immense lack of space for hours really didn't matter to the Headmaster, and this was a happy thought - for once, time was really not of the essence.
But when the boy asked for a permission slip to sign up with the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, Talon couldn't help but sigh a bit as he - without even really answering - reached into the drawer to pull out a permission slip. "This," he said, waving it between the boy and himself, "is the application to intern with the Ministry. While I know that Julius Plutus has the last say on this sort of thing, I would greatly appreciate having a little interview with me before I sign this. I don't want the Minister thinking I hand out my signature to the first person who asks."
He slammed the permission slip down on his now empty table - a blonde boy amongst a picture of five teenagers giving him an incredulous look - and peered over at the Ravenclaw. "Ravenclaw, hmm? First off, what is your name and year?"

Now the headmaster was questioning him. An interview was necessary, of course, but the headmaster seemed, Angry, perhaps? No, how could such a kind, cheerful man be angry?
Realizing that the Headmaster had asked a question, he answered him in a slow tone. " Conor Aaodnait Arch, Sixth Year." Had this been a satisfactory answer?
"Bah!" He thought, erasing all these thoughts of insecurity and whatnot out of his mind. He sat there, slightly easing himself into the surroundings, and waited for the Headmaster's next question.

"Conor Arch, Sixth..." Talon repeated, the Headmaster's eyes watching the boy with interest. He would've sworn he'd heard something about Arch. "Arch, yes, hmm...if I'm not mistaken, your great-great-Grandfather was the legendary Newt Scamander, no?" The blonde wizard chuckled, "I daresay your background would best suit you in Magical Creatures."
Then he shrugged, and continued along jolly, "But we're not always what our family does, hmm? I know this from personal experience...so then, Magical Law Enforcement. Let us test how well you defend yourself." Then, on element of surprise, the Headmaster quick drew his wand and fired, a silent spell releasing a red light at the student in front of him.

Conor had been suspecting this surprise attack since the moment the Head had slammed the paper on the table. Seeing a red bolt fly at him, he figured he had about 0.5 seconds to defend himself, or be stunned.
Watching the red bolt come toward him, he quickly unsheathed his wand, flicked it, and produced a perfectly spell-proof sheild. Or in other words, he thought "Protego". He then wondered what spell to use against this well-trained wizard.
Wait, was he supposed to attack? Yes, he decided, he wouldn't quite be attacking, anyway. Flicking his wand at Talon, the word "Expelliarmus". etched themselves into his mind. Deciding to improve on this a little more, he pointed his wand at the traveling spell and thought " Stupefy!". This was clever, as it would create a combination spell. Powerful, but not lethal. " Ah, yes, I am related to Scamander, but i'm not as interested in Magical Creatures as he was."

So the red beam had been blocked - that was good! But the attack that returned would've caught Talon off guard had Conor put less energy into combining two spells and had simply put all of his power into one of them. "Finite Incantatem." He said aloud, and the red and yellow beams found their way into the point of Talon's wand.
"Very good," the Headmaster chuckled, "but you've got a couple of years to spend with the Aurors before you can beat on me." It was something the boy didn't know, but his respect for the law enforcement system had drastically fallen in the past eleven years. It was for this reason, therefore, that he had tested the boy instead of outright giving him the permission.
He pulled his pencil out of the same pocket he kept his wand, and started to scribble down information on the sheet of paper. In barely a few seconds, the words were down and he handed the parchment to the Ravenclaw. "Good luck, Mister Arch, perhaps one day we shall have a rematch as men."
