For a moment Rezna was disheartened. Talon seemed, at first, utterly shocked by her arrival. That in itself confirmed two of her worst fears. One, he hadn't summoned her to his office. Two, he was not happy to see her. Fortunately, the latter seemed false for the next thing she knew he was holding her hands and was failing at making complete words, let alone sentences. Smiling kindly, Rezna accepted his shock to be a surprise, a good surprise, and allowed her former Headmaster to experience it in whatever way he needed to. If that meant that he was going to finally act his age and show that he was still a young man that could still be caught completely off guard, so be it. After all, Rezna had only seen him act normally once, and she couldn't have preferred it any other way.
But it seemed that all too soon he had gotten a handle on himself and dropped her hands, avoided eye contact. Rezna kept smiling at this, pretending to not have noticed any embarrassment on his part, and tried to act as naturally as possible. His actions had indeed surprised her, but it wasn't too different from the time he hugged her in the middle of battle. Shock and stress did funny things to people. Besides, at the moment she was feeling happier than she had in a long time, for though he was upset at her abrupt departure, Talon did not seem angry. That meant that their old friendship was yet lost.
"I'm sorry," she began solemnly, for his last question was desperate enough to break her heart. "I'm really, truly, sorry Headmas-… Sir. It's just that upon graduating things seemed to happen all at once, and my parents really needed me home. I had to leave, and I knew that if I came to say goodbye I might not be able to leave at all. Simply picking up and going, without looking back, without hesitating, thinking, or feeling was the only way I could think to do it. And it wasn't easy, believe me. But here I am now. It's not a return I planned exactly, but I'm glad to be here, Prof-" at this she stopped, frustrated by her repeated mispronunciations.
"Ahh… now that you're finally calling me by my first name, would it be alright with you if I too dropped the formalities? Otherwise, I'm afraid I'm going to keep tripping over the words Professor and Headmaster all evening," she added, a grin slowly returning to her face.
