Punky Brewster hesitantly approached the phoenix statue that guarded the way to the headmaster’s office. True to form, nothing had gone quite right since she had arrived. Likely, the headmaster would be out at the moment. But one had to try, didn’t she?
With such wonderfully encouraging thoughts as these, Punky nervously spoke to the statue. Strange as the vast majority of the magical world was, it felt exceptionally so to speak to a statue. What do you say to a stone bird? Inquire of its family?
“Er, excuse me—Sir? If-if the Headmaster is in, do you think I might go up and talk to him? I have a letter… and a bit of a matter to settle, you see.”
The five-foot-not-much Slytherin raised a nervous hand to smooth her blonde hair. Please let him be here, she thought desperately. She didn’t care to have to work up the nerve to come twice. She gripped the letter in her hand a little more tightly and lifted her eyes to the phoenix one more time.
“Please sir, if you don’t mind, I’m in a bit of a rush. I’d like to do this before my nerve runs out.”

ooc: Please forgive me for taking so long to get around to this.
The Phoenix immediately stepped aside for the girl, the secret to awakening the stone guardian simply addressing it as if it were not a statue. As the young Slytherin clearly assumed the bird was in fact real, the pathway into the Headmaster's office was open. Inside, Talon was seated at his desk engrossed in new enrollment paperwork.
Unlike last year, where enrollment was booming and the International Confederacy of Wizards was sending nearly infinite galleons for the repair of the school, Firefox was only getting a few new students this year. Talon wondered whether this was partially the fault of the advertisement committee, or whether all of the issues in Spain over the years had distorted parents' decisions to send their children.
When his door opened, Talon's head popped up to see a young girl looking incredibly timid. "Good afternoon," the Headmaster greeted, putting his pencil down. "What seems to be the problem?"

Punky Brewster watched with wide-eyed cynicism as the stone phoenix moved. She eyed it suspiciously for a moment before entering Talon's office. This was going to be a harder transition than she had expected.
Speaking of which, she had business with the Headmaster. Ew... this was the unpleasant part. Best to just get it over with. Shame she was too self-conscious to make her tongue work right.
"Oh- um - yes. I - er -" With a concerted effort, Punky made herself shut up for a moment while she let her faculties catch up. She nodded to herself once and tried again.
"I have a letter." Oh good, a complete sentence! Progress! "That is -- I think Dad already sent you one but just in case, he sent another one with me."
Without further ado, greatly because she didn't trust herself much further, she placed a crisp white envelope on the desk in front of Talon and took a few steps back, standing with her hands folded in front of her, waiting for the hammer to fall.
Headmaster Talon Windwaltz:
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Mr. Matthew Brewster, from Michigan, USA. I write you concerning my daughter, Sarah Brewster (who calls herself “Punky”). Her mother and I wish to enroll her in your particular school of magic, as you seem to be a good-hearted and open-minded man who shares our wish that every individual be given the utmost chance to experience the benefits of the wizarding world. Punky – Sarah is fourteen years of age, and not previously enrolled in formal magical education. She happens to suffer from a slight magical impairment, which condition prevents her from practicing magic itself. We, being her mother and I, request that you enroll our daughter in classes such that she may study magical theory so that her currently latent skills may be encouraged to evidence themselves, at which time we are sure that our P-Sarah, being a bright child, will quickly catch up to her fellow students. I thank you in advance for the understanding we anticipate receiving from your amiable self, and remain Yours truly, Mr. Matthew Brewster
On Punky’s copy of the letter, under Mr. Matthew Brewster’s flourished signature was another note, a few heartfelt and rather more efficacious lines hastily scribbled lines from her mother.
My Dear Headmaster Windwaltz,Thank you ever so much for allowing our Sarah to your school. Please do take care of our little Punky. She’s a dear, smart girl, even if she is a squib. I know you must be terribly busy, with a school to run, but if you could possibly help her find classes suited to her situation, I really would be most grateful. You’ve no idea what a thing like this does to a mother’s nerves. Deepest thanks, Marissa Brewster
