Ah, a joyous celebration. The momentous day of birth. Some people choose to take this moment in time and celebrate with friends, some choose family. Some have neither.
Novus Clarus used to be the only 'child' of a happy 'family'. His 'father' was the school nurse, Ras Alawhara, and his 'mother' was his assistant, Giada Alawhara. Novus, never very social, found his parents to be the basis of his life. They lived happily together. That is, until the freakish night that both Ras and Giada were killed in unrelated and bizarre accidents. This was only months ago, and on his nineteenth birthday, Novus was alone.
And it also happened to be Talon Windwaltz's birthday. What a coincidence.
Novus, being all alone on his birthday, and having heard that it was the Headmaster's birthday as well, had sent a nice letter to the school's chefs (Whom no one has seen) asking for three things. A dozen cupcakes, a cake, and some cookies. The cake had the words "Happy Birthday Headmaster!" emblazoned in bright gold letters across the red icing. The cupcakes were all covered in gold and red sprinkles. The cookies, though, were sprinkled with the colors of Slytherin.
The mysterious student which Talon had never met pushed a cart with the three confections all the way from the kitchen to the Headmaster's office, making certain to keep himself from being seen by too many onlookers. With a smile and a warm greeting, the statue moved aside (Happy with the compliment on its beautiful wings) and allowed Novus to rap on the door.
If Novus had no one, he would make someone else happy on his birthday.
