Night had overtaken the University.Torches lit the hallways and the numerous rooms within. Mice stirred and scurried along the ground here and there, and moonlight showed through the windows of the castle. No moonlight could reach here though. This room had no windows. The office of the Headmaster, Talon Windwaltz.
The amount of activity was minimal. The students lie in their beds and many of the staff too. It was late.
In the far corner of the office two bright yellow eyes faded into view from amongst the seemingly empty darkness. A small flame spawned from the darkness began to illuminate the room. The candles in the office also began to yield tiny flames. In the no-longer dark corner of Talon Windwaltz's office stood a short green creature wearing, what would have appeared to be, elaborately decorated monk robes. In it's small green hand he held an ornate lantern which emitted an unnatural fiery glow. The arm that held the lantern remained unmoving and parallel to the ground. The tiny green feet it possessed seemed to sneak out from under the robe.

Taking very deliberate and precise steps it began moving toward the headmaster's desk. Although slow, the creature seemed to have an eerie sense of danger about him now. The light of the lantern crept forward and was now illuminating the headmaster's desk.
The flame vanished briefly and reappeared on top of the desk with the green creature standing on top of it as well. Waving his free hand, the desk drawer began to slide open, slowly revealing the dagger that once belonged to Lucius. A voice called out from the dagger at the sight of Bogan.
An expressionless voice seemed to fill the room, Yes, my friend, things will be as they once were a long time ago...

Talon had been out of his office that night. He had hoped to stop by the Hospital Wing and see his beloved Rezna. Beyond the occassional peck in the hallways, the two had been far from intimate, and the Headmaster had begun to worry that perhaps their relationship simply could not exist amongst a professional atmosphere. When he found her absent, he took a deep sigh and returned to his office.
His heart was shrouded with a mixture of disappointment, anger, and anxiety. Why did everything always have to be so difficult? Even when there weren't any terrorist organizations, or cunning vampires, or monstrous wolf-men tearing down the castle gates, there was still work. Always work. How was it that work seemed to constantly swallow his life? Was his father this deeply entrenched in work as he was? He seemed to recall his family at home and at peace, heading off to work only some hours of the day, sometimes being gone for several days due to missions...but always coming home.
Why was his job so much more difficult? It was with this thought in mind that he came into his office, ready to kick something before going to bed. And so it was, that when he entered, a particularly kickable little monster was hunched over his desk. An otherworldly whisper filled the room, and Talon felt his hand instictively reach for his wand. "Reducto!" The Headmaster's desk exploded.

Bogan stood on the desk, looking down at the dagger, it was at that moment a human walked into the room. Staring for a moment Bogan made some calculations before a spell of magical energy flew toward the desk the green monk stood upon. The lantern light, being the only one in the room at the moment, vanished and the room was plunged into relative darkness. At that moment horrible ear-splitting screams were heard throughout Talons office and the whole aura of the room shifted for a split second. Not as in mood or energy, but it seemed as if the whole place were transported while it remained in darkness.
The light of the lantern was re-lit in the far corner of the room around some of the man's trinkets. The screams ceased with the lights return as did the feeling that the room had been moved somewhere else. The eerie glow of the flame wavered and flicked and dimly lit Talon's face as it had before. The same empty, emotionless voice filled the room once again. My dear headmaster, I ask that you stay your wand for just a moment, I wish only to speak at the present moment. The green, robed figure stared blankly in the direction of the man who had assaulted him, waiting for a reaction.

The Headmaster's teeth ground against each other as the terrible screams erupted through the room. Whatever magic the creature was using, it was not the kind that wizards used. And if it was, it was the kind that wizards were not supposed to use. Talon did not stay his wand at the creature's request. He really wished that Sylph were here, to tell him what exactly this intruder was. It did not look human in the least, but was capable of human speech. Most creatures capable of that were human at some point.
Perhaps he was dealing with some kind of cursed dark wizard? But his speculation would have to wait until later. "Not in my office," Talon said, his wand still pointed at the creature, "we can talk elsewhere. Perhaps you could've had the decency to arrange an audience with me if all you wanted was to talk. But there are far too many powerful and dangerous artifacts in this room."

The creature stared unblinking, unmoving at the headmaster for a pregnant moment. Bogan stood in the silent darkness, minus the light flickering from within the lantern, after the headmaster had finished speaking. It was as if you could here the mechanical clicks of calculations going through the short creatures brain. What the topic of conversation would be about is, in fact, in this very room. Leaving this room would be inadvisable for this reason. The creature began moving from his corner in an arched fashion, to avoid being too close to the headmaster, toward the remains of the shattered desk. Still unharmed and in one piece was the dagger. Looking down at the weapon the creature began speaking without speaking. The voice echoed from the walls in the room it seemed. Headmaster... here lies before me a dagger, which was confiscated from me a good while ago. For this dagger, I can give you one thing you desire. Anything but life, death, destruction, and rebirth.. Turning in a sustained manner to face the headmaster again he spoke, I would not dare just steal the dagger. It would only mimic what was done to me. You need not worry about that. Bogan stared on waiting for the headmaster's response.

Talon would not have noticed the dagger if the weird little creature had not pointed it out. The Headmaster had almost forgotten about that artifact, which was believed to contain the essence of some kind of antediluvian abomination. Indeed, as the wizard saw the dagger lying in the wreckage of his desk, he almost felt another presence in the room. Talon could feel it towering over both himself and the intruder, so massive it couldn't even fit within the confines of the room.
The Headmaster felt the very core of his being being called by that presence. Talon could hardly resist. What was this creature to enter into the Headmaster's own private quarters and offer to make a Devil's Deal with him? For something that could not be replaced? The Headmaster knew the power that was tempting him was far greater than this little green monster.
But the wizard resisted. He kept his wand pointed at the creature. "I accept no deal," Talon said, "I have everything that I want." For safekeeping, he summoned the dagger to his left hand. But it was almost a bad idea. He felt the great power ache through his body like an excruciating pain in the muscles. Yet he still resisted. "If this dark instrument is any possession of yours, then I will no sooner return it to you than anyone else with half a mind to take it. If anything beyond locked away, it must be destroyed. Now begone! Or I will force you from my room."

Bogan seemed to flinch for a moment as the dagger flew away. The green skinned creature stood still watching the headmaster clutching the dagger. Soon after the headmaster finished his threat Bogan's voice echoed from the very walls in emotionless reply. You would not accept what I have offered? Tis a shame, headmaster, an offer like this only comes along every once in a millennium.
Bogan did not move, however. Instead his lantern light vanished for a moment and the same pained heart wrenching screams filled the room. As the screams ended, a silence filled the room. Then a sickening thud was heard from where Bogan once stood and his voice filled the room once again. Before we seal our goodbyes, I do have another offer you may be interested in... we'll call it a fair trade, that is, if you're up to it. The light immersed the room in it's unnatural glow once more and Bogan stood where he had before. This time, however, there laid neatly on the ground was a human sized burlap bag. A wave of his green hand and the bag was forcibly pulled off of the figure to reveal Sylph O'Dell tied up and writhing, attempting to scream through the restraints that held her mouth shut.
Her eyes flicked immediately to Talon and her eyes spoke novels of pain. Most of the chapters of this novel her eyes told said, "Help me". Now, Headmaster, Bogan began, taking a small step so he stood next to the body. A fear my first notes of our ballad were not encouraging enough. Does this strike a more noticeable chord? Slowly the creature grazed a finger along Sylph's cheek. A sizzling noise was heard and the smell of burning flesh wafted through the room as Sylph let out another muted scream. Does a friend for a friend sound a fair trade? My dagger for the Sylph?
