A new day had begun, and the sun was shining. The skies were that hazy Spanish blue - never were they the clear azure hue that Sylph associated with summers in England - and the temperatures were already soaring despite the fact that it was only nine o'clock in the morning. Still, all was cool inside the palace and Sylph found the large quantities of smooth, clean marble simultaneously soothing and refreshing after her somewhat sticky stroll from her flat in Drakborough. The violet haired witch, dressed in airy pale blue robes, wound her way to the headmaster’s office. She directed a quick “wotcher” at the ruby phoenix, patting it as it allowed her access to the room.
“Talon?” Sylph said, sticking her head around the door, performing a perfunctory knocking motion as she did so. “You got a mo?” Her casual demeanour might have indicated that she was visiting the headmaster simply to say hello, but as usual there were actually sterner matters to discuss. The previous night a vampire – a Nosferatu, rather – had brashly entered the grounds, apparently with the intention of attacking one of Sylph’s students. This event was troubling in itself, but the more Sylph thought about it, the more Roan’s warning from a few weeks ago played on her mind. Maybe the lycan was right. Maybe the vampires were more dangerous than previously thought.
Either way, Talon had to be told about the events of the previous night. The lanky witch stepped into the office fully, awaiting a response.

ooc: sorry I took a while to get back to this...you know what's up

Talon's schedule was always the most flexible in the mornings, though nobody ever came to actually visit him at that time. Having woken up only two hours prior and having had breakfast in the Feasting Hall within the last hour, the students this early in the morning were either hurrying off to their classes or trying to get in an extra hour of sleep. As a result, when the violet haired witch popped in, Talon was pleasantly surprised.
"Good morning!" The Headmaster said enthusiastically, looking up from a few transfer applications that he was approving to give a great beaming smile to the Deputy Headmistress. "How are you today? Have you eaten yet? I haven't touched this and I really don't think I'm going to get around to it..." He motioned to a slice of buttered toast that was sitting on a tiny plate on his desk.
He eyed her before putting down his quill and saying in a far more controlled voice, "or is there something else you wanted to talk about?"
Sylph found herself glancing at the rapidly cooling toast that Talon had offered her with a sense of something resembling aversion. Leftovers? Did he honestly think anyone would want that? Quirking an eyebrow, she pulled up a chair and sat easily opposite the headmaster.
“Nah, you’re alright,” she answered in her dry, almost innately sarcastic voice. “Had a couple of bolos this morning so I’m good to go.” At his question regarding her visit she shifted slightly where she sat, wondering how to start.
“You remember what Roan was saying, the day I came back?” she said, not really phrasing it as a question. “About vampires and what-not having unlimited access to the school? I reckon she might’ve been right.” There was a pregnant pause, during which Sylph pulled her wand out of her pocket and began fiddling with it but her eyes were firmly set on the headmaster’s own. “There was a nosferatu on the grounds last night. Bit of a wally, truth be told,” she added with a sudden, temporary quirk of her lips. “He wanted to take on a student in a one on one fight, and when I stepped in he legged it. Coward.” Her tone was breezy, even humorous, but her expression was serious.
“The student in question would’ve probably been alright,” she went on, for some reason unwilling to mention Phugsius by name. That would just lead to more questions. “But equally he might not have been, or, worse, it could have been a first year out there. If I hadn’t been there…” she trailed off, but it didn’t matter. Her train of thought was so plain she didn’t have to bother stating it aloud.
A long while ago, the unnamed Shadow had stolen the memories of a poor Gryffindor girl by the name of Ashelle Rainier. He had learned, from these memories, a few basic facts about the way the school was secured. So, on a bright and sunny day in Spain, the nameless wizard put on his nicest and most discreet suit, placed his wand in a holster at his hip which would remain in plain sight, and cut his hair into a shorter, less threatening style.
With his smile on, the same kind and inviting one he had used for thousands of years to fool unsuspecting victims, and a pair of enchanted glasses to hide his flaming red eyes, the nameless terror which had spent so many years killing and maiming members of the Spanish Wizarding community, walked into the palace. He smiled, looking straight up spiffy, and even waved at passing students, until he reached the broom closet that served as the headmaster's office. He knew, from the girls memories, that the only way to enter was to greet the statue.
"G'day, Firebird," he said to it, "I believe the best thing about being a statue, as you must know, is that you look absolutely magnificent every day."
He winked at the bird as it moved aside. He found the door to the office was still open, though, and he heard the tail end of Sylph's discussion. He also realized that this might get messy. His wand, along with its holster, disappeared from his side with the blink of an eye. The wand was now safely deposited up his sleeve.
But he would not be rude.
"Greetings, Headmaster," he said, his words smooth, rolling off his tongue like venom, "it seems this is a perfect situation for us to speak. I, too, bring news of the vampires. Before either of you can jump to conclusions, or try to murder me, as I am sure you recognize me, allow me to say this.
