The bright sun had streamed through the window at about midmorning. The day couldn't have been any different from the downcast weather that they had been having the past week. However, none of this mattered to Wyndham who at the moment was sound asleep in a room over Joker's Bar. THWAP! He sleepily groaned and opened his eyes. An owl had apparently tried to fly through his closed window. Suddenly he was completely alert. An owl for him could be either very good or very bad. He got out of bed and opened the window, letting in the owl who angrily tried to gnaw off his fingers.
"Easy, easy," he had said, untying the parchment. "You should've seen that the window wasn't open." The owl hooted grumpily and took off again just as Wyndham opened the letter. His face broke into a genuine smile, something which he hadn't done in a long time. It was a letter from the Headmaster, asking him to come in for another interview.
This was why he now practically bounded up the stairs to the Headmaster's office. He just couldn't keep a satisfied smile off his face, although to be fair he wasn't trying very hard. He had come in earlier to seek the position of Potions Master, and now he knew that he had gotten it. The Headmaster probably hadn't even bothered intervewing other applicants after seeing his love potion.
Wyndham walked-no, strutted down the hallway as if he owned the entire castle. He was about to burst into the Headmaster's Office with an, "I accept!" when an iota of common sense hit him. He had entered unannounced last time, and the Headmaster hadn't seemed too happy with that. After all, he had yet to be officially hired and was still in the Don't-screw-up stage of the job application. Maybe he should be polite this time.
"Hello," he said, announing the password to the ruby phoenix. "The Headmaster requested that I come for another appointment." He held up the letter.
