A black carriage rattled up the long lane that led to the gates of Firefox University, and inside said carriage sat a red haired girl who drummed her fingers on the door more out of boredom than impatience. After so many years of studying magic on her own, she was finally on her way to study it from the best. But magic wasn't the thing on her mind at this particular moment in time. She was thinking of, for no real reason, ships. And not the kind that carried crates of goods back and forth across the atlantic, but the sailing kind. The sort that she used to see sailing back and forth upon the bay when she was just a child. Nonsense, really, to want to sail one of those huge, stupid things. But besides being as tall as the average house, they didn't seem at all cumbersome to her. They seemed almost graceful.
As the carriage sailed through the gates and up to the door, Lucy closed her eyes and tried to imagine that she was on a ship. Instead of going to school, she was going to an island. Infested with bum chums. Lots and lots of bum chums. And possibly treasure. And a parrot, because every good rump raider fantasy must have a parrot.
She kept her eyes closed after the carriage stopped and even going down the steps, even though the carriage driver protested. She only peeked through the sides of her eyes so as not to trip while going to up the steps, something she wasn't particularly good at even with her eyes open. Bursting into the entrance hall, she kept her eyes closed and her sunglasses on while making a small pirouette followed by a bow.
"Avast, me maties! We have landed!"
