1) So magic. Magic is a thing all humans have the potential to use. Some get their talent by blood relations, some through faith, others through years of careful study. How people first obtained their magical talents is irrelevant to the rules and thus open ended. As is how you cast spells. Some spells have chanting and words of power (verbal), others have wild gestures and arm waving (somatic), while sometimes you really just need a pinch of bat guano (material).
There are eight schools of magic: abjuration, conjuration, divination, enchantment, evocation, illusion, necromancy and transmutation. Seven of the schools are taught at the academy. The eighth, necromancy, is not taught and is generally taboo.
For each school, skill is ranked from 1-10, with titles given for each rank (apprentice at conjuration or master at necromancy for example)
-any other input about schools or clarification needed?
-currently don't have names for each rank and happen to be looking for suggestions.
2) The academy.
-any one ho can pass admissions can attend.
-no limit to number of terms you can stay.
-no age limit.
-both on site campus housing and housing within city.
-currently and and former members of the academy are higher class citizens.
-leadership of academy and leadership of Arcadia same thing.
3) Houses. Each member of academy belongs to one of five five houses. These are Chinese element themed, with each of the corresponding personality traits for each element being the sorting factor.
-Each house has a head.
-head of house must be a current professor/instructor.
-tiers be an instructor of a school of magic you must have a minimum rank (5?) Of skill in that school.
-the combined group of each head of house makes up the ruling arcane council for the city.
-members of each house compete with one another for influence, the house with the most influence at the end of each semester has their head of house become the 'first among equals' on the council (a sorta headmaster position and also head of city).
-what powers/authority would we want professors to have?
-mayhaps quests/assignments given by professors give more than those created independently by players?
-should the professors make up a secondary 'general assembly' sorta thing below the arcane council?
-should we have any sorta prefects system?
-should we allow any number of instructors or just have one per school? If one, what would be the process for replacing inactive instructors?
