Probably the most important question going forward: what kind of site do we want to be playing on? As most of you may already be aware, this site has been a Harry Potter one, taking place in a somewhat hazy time period, but pretty much assumed to be modern. You could go over the somewhat lengthy primary proposal thread, but there is a LOT there about a range of different topics. We're mostly looking to determine the theme we want to go with, be it HP, Hyrule or something completely original. I think this quote is prolly the best to sorta give the idea of what we're aiming to talk about here:
I think there are a few main things I'm looking to hearing about that are probably the most relevant right now:
1) Time period.
2) Location.
3) Source material (none is also an acceptable response).
Potential other things that are always good to flesh out ideas but not as immediately important:
4) Nature of magic/powers/abilities.
5) Social/political structure.
I was honestly never all that into Harry Potter (I liked it, I just wasn't crazy about it). I just did the Quizilla quiz and tested out MH and somehow stayed for the ride. Studying HP lore and everything came afterward. However, I like the structure of the schools in HP, and I would prefer to keep that organization (houses, school, town, whatever). It's easy to understand and is highly adaptable. Not to mention, we're familiar with it.
A castle in the sky or in the sea or at the ocean floor might be fun, BUT getting to town or the outside world would be tricky. Doing that would also limit the interactions between the characters in the environment we choose and the beasties in the forest or muggles from the outside or whatever. Although we were looking at an isolated setting, this could make it too isolated. We could have special areas like set up in whatever setting we choose, though.
What is most important right now is to pick whatever theme we're going with. Theme first, then location.
All of our set-up will be based off of the theme. We can step away from HP. Pokemon requires characterization and development of the pokemon as well, so it looks like it needs a more rigid structure with rules. We seem to prefer being more free-spirited, so I think that would probably just drive us nuts after awhile. Plus, that series keeps coming out with new environments and monsters and items and requires a lot of keeping up with the franchise. We could always create our own setting and pillage ideas from other sources. We could create a collage of what exactly we want to work with. It will require time and several revisions, but this may work out the best.
What would everyone like to do?
