I was looking at the kind of depressing line of 0's next to each of the houses in that nifty little sidebox, and I had a thought. Rather than depending on random IC events, as well as classes and whatnot, what if we implemented a sort of 'point reward' system. (Az and Orca, this'll sound kind of familiar *cough*Pokemon*cough* but bear with me)
What if, at the end of each thread, you added up the posts you made in that thread and each post counted as a point towards that character's house? I think it would make house points a much more relevant thing.
Another thing we could implement is something involving word count. I hate word-count based posting, but if we were to make each post count as point(s) towards your house it would definitely be something to keep in mind to sort of discourage one-liner spam (not that there's anything wrong with that. I love you, newbies!). Say, for every 100 words in your post you get an extra point... or maybe your total word count for the thread divided by a hundred would be the amount of points you earned for your house.
Now, this is just a thought I had and I wanted to get some feedback on it. I'm not entirely sure it's even a good idea, but, ya know, maybe some of you will like it. The house cup is kind of just for IC pride anyway considering anyone can have differently housed characters, so it would be for fun rather than anything stressful. I repeat, I hate word count based posting, but I think if we implemented it in a fun way it might be an interesting addition.
I think they are good ideas in theory but really bad to implement. I absolutely despise word count posting but at the same time if people are like 'IF I POST A HUNDRED TIMES WITH ONE LINE (god forbid one word) SPAM' and get house points for that, then it ruins the fun. At the same time, if everybody's expected to have word count if they want anything, that ruins the fun too.
I think points should be rewarded for roleplaying. I think Professors should feel free to distribute as many points as they like in any roleplaying situation - somebody does something, the Professors should say '5 points to Gryffindor' and such. I don't think Professors should be stingy about it, either. Likewise, I don't think Professors should be afraid of taking away points either. If we want to make points worth something, then we need to give them as rewards for roleplaying and plot purposes.

Could just have a flat reward that can be claimed for each thread that hits a certain number of posts. So, sat, if your thread went over, I dunno, a page in length, you could get ten points for watevah house or something? Fuck word counts and shit, but give people some stuff for being active.
We also really do need to rely on professors and stuff to actually be active with dealing out points XD

I think that last idea is a good compromise. It makes it so people can't earn 3230924823 posts by being, for lack of a better term, retards, but it also does make it so you can earn some points. I think at least a page is fair because that's a good sixteen posts, definitely enough to be earning some house points. I think ten is honestly a good number but that's up for discussion as well.

There's a couple different ways we can do that, too. We could say that each thread gets the original poster's house ten points as soon as it reaches one page. This would encourage people from their own house to post in their thread with them, building up the old school house segregation and unity we all love so much. On the other hand we could say that each person who posts in their thread gets their house ten points, so it's a little more equal and it would encourage people to post and mix it up, so to speak. Another option would be like some battle royale shit or something, I don't know, where the house with the most posts in a thread would get the ten points. Like I said, there's a lot of ways we can take this, so tell me/us what you think.

Triple post.
We could even have a variety of different ways to get the points listed somewhere, and the OP can choose one and state it in their first post.... I don't know.
I don't really like the system Mysste had as people ended up with, in that case, 9 million coins for ranting about trees for three pages. It's not productive. It doesn't even speak activity, necessarily, it just says 'wow this person really loves trees'.
I don't think ten points for EVERY post (is that even how that is supposed to be read maybe I'm just confused) is necessary, but the 'whatever house has the most posts in this thread' sounds good to me. And then of course professors can just give out points for whatever they want. I think Flitwick gave someone ten points for being handed a watering can.

okay I can't read, what else is new? Me personally I prefer house with most posts over OP. Sometimes the OP drops out after the first couple of posts and other people keep it going.
